Extremely disappointed with the facilities and staff at this hotel. I had previously read reviews and wasn’t expecting a 5 star experience as its an old building in need of a refurb. The room we had tho had a leaking air con system. We were kept awake through the night with the unit constantly dripping onto the floor tiles. In the morning the floor was flooded. I informed reception, they came to inspect and basically put a pool towel down below the unit to catch the drips, the cleaner realised this wasn’t much help so she put a waste paper bin under it. No offer to change rooms. We decided to head for breakfast, there were no clean empty tables, no plates or cutlery available. I looked for a staff member but no one was available, I headed back to reception but there was no one there either. I waited a further ten minutes for a waitress to appear who then organised a table and eventually brought out plates and later cutlery. It seemed like an absolute shambles. The breakfast experience was very disappointing. We checked out this morning, the guy at reception went to check our room, we couldn’t understand why he was taking so long, but he returned having taken photos of all the towels, he said there was make up on one with they would need to deal with ! He then went on to discuss the bin of water & soaking towels under the aircon unit. He was insinuating that we had broken it and said there was no report on their system that we had complained about it. I pointed out that all the wooden furniture in our room was showing signs of long term water damage, obviously from months of leakage not just a few nights while we stayed there. He was hesitant to return our €100 deposit so I reiterated that the damage was historic. We had left the room litter free and tidy. He eventually handed back our deposit but didn’t end the conversation on a friendly note. We had a fabulous time in Albufeira town, we would definitely return but there’s no way we would stay at Vila Recife 😳
i’ll give an honestly review of the hotel.
location- so so good 3 min walk to beach and 5 min walk to the old town square, also the marina witch has nice restaurants and boat trips is just is just like 5 minutes in uber we done the boat trip were they show us the famous caves and private beach’s and dolphins witch was great was only like 80€ altogether for 2 people.
just a tip if your coming from the airport do NOT get a normal taxi order on UBER from uber app because old town is like a 40 minutes drive or up to an hour based on traffic we got charged €73 by using a normal taxi when uber charges a set fee off around €40 don’t get caught out on this use the uber app for all your taxi journeys.
food- we did not try the breakfast there we just went accross the road to eddys sports bar who’s food is amazing and also tried other places in old town, alfredo’s and tequila loco nicest restaurants we went to by far and also central station in the square.
Staff- wore very friendly the hole time , also the cleaners , room was cleaned every time we put clean sign on door
Deposit- they ask for 100€ deposit upfront from card only, we checked out at 8am saturday and deposit was already back in revolut account by 4:30pm.
Rooms- are dated and beds wore grand , small balcony room for one person on there but there fine , only issue was water kept coming from air con every time we had it on so caused massive puddles every time we had it on we did say it to staff on first day and they said they will sort it but nothing came of it but we did only ask once as we wore not overly bothered to keep asking .
Pool- area looked a little small we just avoided and went the beach and chilled in loungers there but i’m sure if ur up in the morning you’d get a lounger at the pool we just preferred trying the beach.
noise- we stayed on same floor as the reception and the hole night does be quiet we only heard noise in the morning when cleaners wore going around witches you’d expect .
Outside- right out side the hotel is a big spar shop and pharmacy and also sports bar called eddys and a bar called tonic witch wore so good to have eddys have a take away part were u can have pizzas and burgers and take them away as late as 2am .
the location and what’s around this hotel really does make up for what it lacks but for the price you pay especially with how expensive albufera is , it’s a grand place to stay especially when you use the room for mostly just sleeping, outside area of the hotel were breakfast is had and also where you can buy drinks or ice cream or snacks is a nice area to chill also.
seen a lot of over exaggerated reviews before i came to this hotel so i decided to give a full proper honest one.
Would i stay in this hotel again - Yes if i was doing another trip on short notice on a budget definitely, it’s a grand hotel to stay in regardless to be honest.
Any questions if your staying ?
Fantastic hotel in a great location. We had a nice room with a view. Cocktails are delish and reasonably priced compared to other bars. Would stay again.
Vila Recife is in a fantastic location in the old town and good value for money overall. I would say that this hotel is quite basic but generally clean and a decent place to stay.
There was a few inconveniences with our stay:
Regardless of this, the breakfast was basic but good enough, and most importantly the hotel was clean. One annoying thing was the fact there was only one physical key as opposed to key cards.
I would stay here again if I needed a value for money hotel. The outside of the hotel looks quite nice and there is a nice courtyard at the front.
We booked this hotel as it was a fairly good price so we weren’t expecting anything amazing, but our stay was sadly disappointing and it was largely due to the lack of good service and hospitality. The rooms are basic but functional, exactly what we thought it would be so no major complaints other than balcony area is non existent. We brought our own kettle and when we asked for cups we were initially told we couldn’t have them in our room but they could offer paper cups. We hardly had any towels. We asked for fresh towels and were told that we would have to wait another 2 days. We did eventually get some cups and fresh towels but the staff could have been more accommodating and friendly. We also asked for our room to be cleaned and left the sign on the door but it didn’t get cleaned. We witnessed people being turned away at breakfast because they arrived at exactly 10.30am and another couple were turned away because they didn’t have their room number yet and had only just arrived. There was nothing going on on the rooftop area, which is a shame as it could be a really good space. It just felt like the staff didn’t really want to do anything for you and everything we asked for felt like hard work. And I don’t think we were asking for anything unreasonable.
Overall as a hotel that is basic it costs nothing to offer a good service with a smile and friendly attitude, which we didn’t receive during our stay. Although upon checking out, we did meet a lovely and friendly receptionist who worked the night shift, I think his name is Ayu. He helped with our bags, and had a smile on his face. He also recommended a place to watch the sunrise. This hotel needs more staff like him!
