Both hotels connect through the outdoor gardens in a pleasant walk.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
The hotel had been recommended by 2 friends who had previously stayed so I had high expectations. I wasn’t disappointed. The hotel is lovely, clean, bright and fresh. It has an air of calmness and as soon as you walk through the door you start to relax. I can not fault anything. The grounds are immaculate, the staff very friendly, the food was good and happy hour makes the cocktails a bargain! The location is great, not too far from the airport and shops and restaurants just down the road in the village. We ate at Il Basilico next door at the sister hotel which was stunning. We had a table over looking the cliffs and the sea which was beautiful. The food was amazing too. We are already discussing going back next year!!!

The pool area is gorgeous, beautifully maintained, and the drinks service was a real highlight — especially the stunning cocktails!
Our room was lovely, fresh and modern, and we were so pleasantly surprised to find a little welcome teddy and a children’s toiletries set waiting on our daughter’s cot when we arrived. Such a thoughtful touch when travelling with a toddler. The standard of cleaning throughout our stay was also excellent.
The onsite restaurants are absolutely gorgeous, and the cocktail and tapas bar is the perfect spot to sit back and watch the sunset. It’s incredibly picturesque and such a lovely place to spend an evening.
The hotel is also within walking distance of a little town with restaurants and the seafront. It isn’t a particularly fancy town, but it’s nice to have the option of getting out of the hotel and enjoying a meal locally. Albufeira is around 15 minutes away by taxi, and Vilamoura around 20 minutes.
The hotel itself is right on the seafront. It is a bit of a walk down, with quite a few stairs, but it’s absolutely worth it once you get there!
There was live singer/ music each night, which was tasteful and lovely entertainment.
Most importantly, every member of staff we came across was so friendly and welcoming, and they were absolutely lovely with our toddler.
Overall, we had such a wonderful stay and couldn’t fault the experience. We would definitely return and highly recommend PortoBay Blue Ocean!
We booked 3 superior rooms but unfortunately only 2 looked like the pictures with a double sink and more space while one room looked like all the photos of the standard room, despite all 3 costing the same. When asked staff said that all three were the same despite one being significantly smaller and having only one sink and fewer balcony spaces than the rest. All the wait staff were friendly and helpful but unfortunately the reception staff all looked like they did not want to be there. Clara and Maria Clara three times were asked for a kettle as the one in the room already did not work but this never came. When asked about our stay we mentioned this but no apology was given. One of the days the cups in the room were dirty so I asked reception for another and they said they could not help, they made no suggestions. Luckily the bar was open and they were happy for me to take one and the staff there were very nice. The rooms were generally clean but dusty in some areas.
Having been to the sister hotel last year, we had an even better time at Blue Ocean. As repeat customers, the PortoBay app got us drinks discounts and the staff were excellent. We had some issues with our air conditioning but the staff checked it out a couple of times to try and help. The seats by the adults-only pool disappear quickly but if you get an Adults-Room, you will have reserved loungers nearby.
The only things that would've made this 5 stars for me would be a few more light snack options and better hours on the sunset view bar and infinity pool bar. Otherwise, the hotel is a great location with solid amenities.
This was definitely the best hotel we have stayed in , it was calming as you walked in , everyone was very friendly and polite , food lovely, pools lovely room amazing , we cannot find anything to say that’s negative, we will definitely be going back The Simpson’s and the Bullen’s
