Grand for the price, it is central to everything
We recently stayed at Hotel Luna d’Oura and overall we had a really good experience. The hotel itself was amazing, very clean and extremely well maintained. There are plenty of facilities available, including an indoor pool, sauna, gym, kids’ games room, hairdressers, beauty room, changing facilities, showers and luggage storage, which was really handy when waiting for transfers.
There were, however, a few things we felt could be improved.
🏊♀️ The pool area has A LOT of rules. There are no floats, balls, pool games or music allowed. As this is a self-catering hotel, we were also disappointed that you aren’t allowed to bring your own food to the poolside, while pizza is available to purchase for around €12. Unfortunately, the pizza we ordered was undercooked, so that was disappointing.
There also wasn’t a huge selection of drinks available at the poolside bar.
🧢 You have to wear a swimming cap in the indoor pool and, if you don’t have one, you have to pay €5 to buy one.
🧺 If you take the hotel towels to the pool area, there is a €30 charge, which we felt was quite excessive.
💶 The hotel also asks for a €300 security deposit. We understand the reason for a deposit, but this could be difficult for some guests. One of the people travelling with us had only brought €300 spending money for their short stay, so having that amount held as a deposit was a major inconvenience.
🧼 There is a laundry room on two floors, but unfortunately only one washing machine was working out of the two. It costs €5 to use, although a small bag of washing powder is provided.
🍹 There is also a bar beside reception, but during our 5-day stay I never once saw it open, which was a little disappointing.
⚠️ One thing I did overhear at reception was a guest reporting that money had gone missing from her room. She said the money had definitely been there before she left to sit around the pool, and that the cleaners had been in the room and changed the towels. I didn’t hear the outcome of the complaint, so I can’t comment any further or say what actually happened — I just feel it’s important to mention that this was something I personally overheard and cannot verify.
Despite these points, we genuinely enjoyed our stay. The hotel is beautiful, well maintained and has lots of facilities. We just feel that some of the rules, particularly around the outdoor pool, could be relaxed to make it feel more welcoming and enjoyable for guests.
Overall, we had a good holiday and would consider staying again, but hopefully some of these issues will be looked at in the future. ❤️🌴
Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Staff at reception are extremely rude. There is a list of charges including 40e if a towel is stained 10e if a cup is broken etc. accidents happen and people shouldn’t be afraid to use the hotel amenities. My 19 year old daughter and her friend were treated like they were in school with a mean headmistress. Avoid if you want a relaxing holiday with friendly staff.
A sad hotel that ignores its clients - obviously being run down for i suspect sale. The most obvious failings in room service that over a week is decidedly patchy - no change of bed clothes random days when bed was made then not - full dustbins and very late like 16.00 and after for the housekeeping service. This was all reported to the front desk on day 3 but still no action…terrible reviews were pointed out on Trip Adviser hoping to gain a reaction but still no interest…and to make matters worse a refusal to serve free water at meal times despite clear EU guidance.
The hotel is not a 4* it is more like a hostel from the late ninties. The rooms are so incredibly dated, kitchenette was disgusting; and, I have never experienced a nosier hotel, and I have been to Benidorm!! If you have kids, don't take them here, you will not get a good nights sleep at all. Every pillow we had was lumpy and needed replaced, and when I asked for new pillows they again were lumpy. I came back home, sleep deprived and needed a neck massage. The pool area was clean, but the pool water was disgusting. I have never seen a pool with the grime on the surface like I have here. How it was given 4 stars is beyond me.
It also was not cheap to stay here and we had booked breakfast for the week, and it was a waste of money as we ended up eating elsewhere as the food served was disgusting, cold and greasy.
As you tell we did not enjoy this hotel and will never return. I did like the Algarve itself, but choose your hotel wisely and AVOID the LUNA DA OURA at all costs.
