Hotel is definitely not a 5*. Rooms were spacious and comfortable but fixtures were hanging off the wall and there were holes that had just been left where a tv was previously mounted. Bathroom was very dated with cracked tiles and Argos value range shower curtain. Not much range of food and the food was always cold. Breakfast however was very good! There were flies everywhere including the restaurant. They could do with fitting some fly zappers and screens. There were ants all over the pool area and even in the rooms! There were also lots of seagulls that would get on the sun loungers and in the pool (I know this isn’t the necessarily the hotels fault but I just found it very off putting. Also have not experienced this at any other hotel)
The staff were friendly and helpful but I noticed there was not a lifeguard around the pool, bit unsafe. Overall it wasn’t the worst stay but I would not return. I’m unsure how they got a 5* rating but if they focused on some of the little details it would make a big improvement.

Stayed here for 5 nights self catering and was much better than reviews suggest. The negatives - the decor throughout - interior designers need firing - it’s Portugal not India - awful sparking reception looks so dated and tacky and cheap - Positives: we stayed room 801 and was a nice room with lovely modern shower and was very clean with no issues. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The jewel in the crown of this place is location and the pool, however, having watched the pool cleaners every morning they need to be to sweep floors before running hose water on them - the sunbeds are tied to floor? That means they can’t be moved for proper floor clean - stupid idea that management need to sort. The pool surround clean needs to improve massively - The pool itself was lovely but quite a lot of missing tiles and coping stones need re-fixing as have lifted in parts - too many tiles missing for management to ignore for another season - as we was self catering I cannot comment about the food but did not hear anyone complaining which usually you do, so presume was ok. Hotel isn’t a 5 star and never has been so I can see why people would be disappointed if expecting that - it’s a solid 3 star at best in a fantastic location. I was last here in 2010 under previous management and standards have clearly slipped - senior management need to get standards back to what they were and it would not take much to get this hotel looking and feeling nicer - you’ll have a lovely holiday staying here just don’t expect 5 star luxury.
