This luxurious hotel is located near to the impressive 16th Century bastions of Valletta and offers superb views across Marsamxett Harbour and Manoel Island. The Grand Hotel Excelsior offers standards of service and comfort that one expects from a 5-star establishment. A selection of fine restaurants give the hotel a wide reputation for its high standards of cuisine.
One week at Grand Hotel Excelsior was a very good experience. From front door and front desk experienced friendly and knowledgeable staff. Food was good whichever restaurant you visited within the hotel and again friendly and knowledgeable staff at all times. My room was clean and tidy and kept that way all week by the housekeeping team. Treated ourselves to a short and sweet spa experience which was well deserved and worth having. We went through a travel agent and found our bed and breakfast booking well worth the money. The hotel is situated only short distance from Balletta which we made full use of - with the hotel offering a car ride which would cut eliminate the steep staircase climb. All in all a very good experience would definitely make a return journey and booking.

Very friendly staff. Lovely swimming pool. Good breakfast Large rooms slightly dated but very clean. If your an older person I’d ask for a room with walk in shower as I found it hard to step into.
We loved everything about the Hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was brilliant, an amazing choice everyday. Room was comfortable and the room cleaners worked very hard for us. The pool area and access to the sea were beautiful. We requested use of an ironing board etc and extra pillows, all supplied with a smile. We were in Malta for a family event.
We have been coming to The Excelsior for approximately 15 years, by far the best stay, some improvements, staff very friendly, hygiene of the hotel was of a high standard. We both had a wonderful time. Thank you.
Firstly we drove up to the hotel and thought it was very grand looking. We were welcomed with a complimentary drink which was lovely. The rooms were very spacious with everything you needed. At 5pm the maid was knocking your door to do a "turn down bed" service. We often turned this down as we felt it was far too early and we were getting ready to go out for the evening. Tea/coffee is complimentary in the room, as is two bottles of water everyday. The bar and breakfast area had fantastic views overlooking the bay. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice but it did get busy around 9am. The bathing area by the sea could do with an update, maybe using artificial grass for the floor rather than what looks like hard-core. The sunbeds were really uncomfortable with a bar across that hits the bottom of your back. We stayed for a week but was surprised to find the outside resturant and two of the little bars had packed up and closed towards the end of our week which was disappointing. A staff member said it was because the hotel was closing soon to be refurbished. But we understood this to be in February 2027. The umbrellas around the pool were not allowed to be used if there was a breeze as they weren't secured enough to stay in the ground. This was not good as it was quite hot and there was no other shade as the shaded area had been dismantled and taken down whilst we were there too. The 80 steps to/from the hotel can be quite challenging but the hotel do offer a shuttle service to the top and back if needed. Valletta town is lovely and only a 10 minute walk away from the hotel. We could not fault the staff, they all did a brilliant job with a smile. Overall we had a lovely stay and would return to the hotel. We look forward to seeing it being tranformed although we hope it won't be too modern as we quite liked the traditional charm. Thank you for a lovely stay!
