Corinthia Hotel St Georges Bay

This was our first visit to Malta and we were very glad we chose the Corinthia St George’s Bay. We had an executive double on the fourth floor with wonderful views out over the swimming pools, looking towards the sea. The room was very comfortable and we had access to the excellent Executive Lounge a few doors down the corridor, serving snacks and drinks all day in an air-conditioned environment. A great first point of call on returning from trips out, to help us cool down. Khushi, Pihu and Asma in the Executive Lounge were extremely attentive and helpful and really made our stay most enjoyable. They were a delight to chat to too, when the lounge wasn’t busy.

We had booked half-board and, for evening meals, there was a ‘dine around’ scheme where we could eat at various restaurants both within the Corinthia Hotel and also in restaurants in the adjacent Radisson Blu and Verdi hotels. We tried out several of these and had very good meals in all with great service and huge portion sizes. But our favourite was the Broadside Terrace at the Corinthia, an outside restaurant, where we had some very pleasant evening meals with amazing sunset views and dancing bats, not to mention the delicious freshly grilled food. And the Broadside Team (especially Pihu and Ronaldo) were amazingly attentive. The breakfasts in Fra Martino at the Corinthia were excellent (especially the freshly-cooked omelettes). One of the breakfast staff, Kashish, was particularly welcoming and helpful every morning at breakfast. The Saturday Evening Buffet at Fra Martino was also excellent – in fact it was a shame that this restaurant wasn’t open more often than once a week in the evenings.

The hotel’s location was excellent. It was a 5-10 minute walk to St George’s Beach and the bus stop for travelling to Valletta was just round the corner from the hotel with regular buses taking around 30-40 minutes on a scenic coastal route. We also hired a car and there was ample parking at the hotel. The swimming pools were lovely and warm and were never crowded and there were always some empty sun loungers available (we visited in early September).

The only, minor, issue we had was with the room key cards. At the beginning of our stay they ceased to work quite often and we had to get them changed. However, the Reception Staff were always very happy to help. In fact, all the staff at the hotel were most welcoming and helpful. We would be very happy to return to this really lovely hotel.

The location of the hotel is quiet and out of the way, it’s an 8 minute walk to the shops which isn’t terrible but when you get to the shops it’s like magaluf strip.

The atmosphere of the hotel is dead. It’s so quiet and staff are really unhelpful. Considering it’s a 5 star hotel there is no 5 star service.

The hotel is extremely dated and has a funny musky smell. It needs a lot of money spent on it to match any other 5 star hotels within its competition.

They also charge you €5 just to have room service to your room, even if you’re paying for the food anyway.

Overall experience I would not return.
