Victoria Hotel

Stayed at the Victoria from the 25th of august for 10 nights. On arrival at the hotel at 12 we had a 3 hour wait for our room which was a pest but nothing could be done about it. Maybe a welcome drink could have been offered as it was during the heat wave and too hot to go up to the pool bar. When we got into our 6th floor room we are happy with everything provided. The room was kept very clean over our stay, towels and bedding changed when required. Water in the room every day. Tea and coffee making facilities. Just enough space for both of our clothes etc, never ever enough hangers though(i always pack 10 spare ones) bathroom facilities good, shower gel, shampoo, body lotion etc all provided. The lack of a light on the 6th floor balconies was annoying as we like to have a drink before dinner. The view from our room did include a tiny bit of sea at either end of the hospital building but no great views from any of the bedrooms. It was very quiet once the balcony door was closed. Free safe and the use of a fridge was excellent. Breakfast was excellent, everything you required… delicious fresh fruit, breads/rolls, continental choice, cooked selection, juices and choice of coffee. Tables always kept clean and staff worked very hard and always had a smile on their face. The pool bar had a good choice of drinks, cocktails and snacks freshly made. It was lovely being able to have lunch delivered to your lounger if required. And a nice touch when the staff brought lovely melon around when it was so hot. The pool area did get busy but you could usually find a lounger although it would have been in the shade normally . We enjoyed the adult only pool where it was quieter and choice of being in the sun or shade. My main gripe was the people that felt they were entitled to maybe 3 or 4 sunloungers to change from being in the sun or moving into the shade when they wanted to move. This happened at both pools. We actually watched an older english lady on her first day at the adult pool. Her husband had a bed in the sun and the shade, she felt the necessity for her sarong to have a bed in the sun next to hers and also one in the shade. So ignorant considering theres maybe 30 beds at the most in this section. Another day an Irish couple left their towels on their beds while they told us they were off to the blue lagoon for several hours. Maybe they were just like a lazy family that just left their 4 towels on the beds and expected the staff to put them away for them. I think the hotel need to manage this better. All of the staff were amazing, especially Sandya who served us when we were eating at the poolside. We managed to keep our room on until our departure at 5pm at a cost of 50 euros which i felt was too expensive. Considering we had also paid 150 euros extra for a high floor. Hearing several others getting complimentary upgrades was annoying. If we return to Malta we would stay here again due to the comfortable beds, clean rooms and staff.,

Lovely hotel in a good location and the friendliest staff. but a special mention to the wonderful staff in the breakfast room whose cheery welcome and amazing service every morning was just first class. Only disappointing thing was the tiny balcony and maybe some fresh paint in the bedroom needed but would definitely recommend staying here. Also the Temptasian restaurant which is on the Palace hotel side was exemplary and first class food and outstanding service from Mark and all the other lovely staff we had the pleasure of meeting.

On arrival the Reception staff were very welcoming, the Reception itself is lovely. As we arrived after our evening meal, we were given a voucher to use elsewhere in the hotel. Our bags were brought up to our room. It went smoothly and after a long journey you felt at ease and welcomed. We also had a problem with our room after a couple of days, which the reception staff dealt with efficiently and we were moved and settled in an hour. Thank you.

The rooms was spacious, clean, tidy, an iron and board, fridge (much needed when hot for water), nice clean white towels, bath and great shower. Water pressure great. Loads of space and hangers for all your clothes, 3 pin plug points, plenty of in the room and USB points by the beds. We enjoyed our room. Housekeeping kept it nice and clean, thank you.

We were in room 512, we had a slight view of the sea left and right, we had a premium room with balcony, looking straight into the hospital in front of us. There are many rooms with balconies and on looking around some are not situated in a good place, you could be looking into someone’s windows, it is definitely a town hotel. Level 5 or 6 premium would be a good bet and higher status if able. It depends on what you pay for to where you will be. But a hotel is for sleeping in and most of the day you’re out. When on your balcony there is no privacy left and right, be careful what you sit out in! A shield each side would be nice whichever room you pay for. For us we did enjoy our stay and got round the itty bits. The sun rises and sets are beautiful to see. E rooms are air conditioned.

One of the biggest asset this hotel has is the roof top pool and bar. We went in September so no kids! It was nice and peaceful, restful and a really nice pool, with one of the best views. I won’t spoil it for you, if you go, you will see. It is clean, towels readily available, no one puts there towels down, you get the odd couple that think having 4 beds for two is acceptable, two in the sun and two in the shade, which is unfair for people wanting to enjoy the roof top. The staff are brilliant, they never stop, food is excellent, good portions and of high standard. Happy hour from 3-5, two same cocktails for €12. Good value. Also very nice. We had a few! As it was sooo hot, getting back and using the pool was such a relief. You can view the sea from the pool.

Also on the same roof top is an absolutely lovely Thai restaurant, omg to die for. You really must go for a meal. Inside it is like a Tardis, book a window table. Truly worth a date night.

Breakfast was adequate for what you need to fuel up for day ahead. There is hot and cold, fruit, cereals, yoghurt, continental, eggs, omelettes, just to name some of what you can have. The room is like being at The Ritz for afternoon tea. Once again the staff are really lovely, always having a smile and looking after you. Big shout out to the breakfast staff. Thank you.

We had half board and each night was a different theme. There is always something for everyone, I loved the soups each night, and much more. What makes your evening special is the staff, and chefs, their customer service and professional hospitality is excellent. They can’t do enough for you. Big thank you Leoni, Gurpreet, Mohit, Kabila, and Bindi, the only names we could get, but thank you all in the restaurant for making our experience fun, and something to look forward to each night.

It is two hotels in theory, AX Victoria is an older lady, but she has charm and we liked this hotel for this, it’s authentic and real. Unfortunately the Penny Black pub in reception was closed for re fit. It is open now. A corridor links The Victoria to The Palace where you have your evening meal. You can use all facilities in both hotels. They have a lovely cafe with cakes in The Palace. If we went back we would stay in The Victoria and would ring hotel direct to get a good room.

The ferries are on your doorstep to get to all places. Plenty places to eat out etc. Lidl just round the corner. If you want to visit anything and need tickets, book ahead online, if cruise ships are in they take the spaces. Also they can create long queues i.e.into the church, the queue was miles long, when hot you don’t need that, we wanted to see Valletta underground but tickets all gone, think ahead. The ferries are great, safe, clean and cheap. Concession over 60’s I did get asked if I was lol 😂 I loved that. Another lady was asked for proof, she had her passport with her luckily. It was nice to think I looked younger than 65! Concessions give you half price, worth doing. Timetables are frequent to Valletta and literally just across the water. We went to Bubjiba by boat, worth a visit. Go to the famous gun that fires at 12 & 4. Walk Valletta and the side streets, a fabulous place.

This hotel isn’t anything other than it is, that’s its charm, out of the two hotels we would definitely stay here. What makes it special is the staff. Don’t expect glitz and glamour, it is authentic to Malta and in keeping with its surroundings. I can’t speak for others, but the 2 weeks we had, we had a great experience. Would I return, yes! Absolutely 💯 Bear in mind it can get very hot, the humidity is what gets you. Wear very light clothes as you will drip with sweat. Nights are hot, this was in September, I believe their season changes middle October. I took cardies, did not need them.
