Our stay at Azur Hotel was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we've had, and we would not return or recommend it to anyone. The problems started on the day we arrived. The bathroom sink was blocked when we checked into our room. We reported it straight away, but it still took over 24 hours for the issue to be resolved. While it was eventually fixed, we didn't expect to spend the first day of our holiday waiting for such a basic maintenance problem to be dealt with. The most frustrating issue was the complete lack of clean towels. Throughout our entire week-long stay, there was a constant shortage. We were repeatedly told that towels were "on the way," but they rarely appeared when promised. It became obvious that the hotel doesn't have enough towels for its guests and is simply waiting for dirty ones to be washed before reissuing them 12 hours later or sometimes not receiving them at all . That is completely unacceptable and something no paying guest should have to deal with.
To make matters worse, our room overlooked an active building site ( drilling noise started at 7am ) directly outside the veranda, with the road below closed off because of the works. The constant sight of construction completely ruined the view and atmosphere of what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday. We were never warned about this before arriving. Our daughter had to sleep on the sofa bed, which was incredibly hard and extremely uncomfortable. It was completely unsuitable for a comfortable week's stay. Breakfast was another disappointment. There were regularly no clean plates available, forcing guests to wait. The food was mediocre at best, and the so-called fruit juices were so watered down they barely tasted of fruit at all. The attitude and behaviour of the dining staff made the experience even worse. They hovered around the tables watching guests eat, cleared plates before people had even finished, and made us feel as though they wanted us out as quickly as possible. We were even told we couldn't take something as simple as a banana or croissant away with us or fill a bottle or cup with water before leaving. It felt mean-spirited and completely lacking in hospitality. Overall, this hotel appears to be cutting corners wherever possible—whether it's basic maintenance, providing enough towels, serving a decent breakfast, or making guests feel welcome. Instead of enjoying our holiday, we spent far too much time chasing towels, reporting problems, and feeling frustrated. For the price we paid, this experience was nowhere near acceptable. We left feeling let down and would strongly advise anyone considering staying here to look elsewhere.
Clean, friendly, quiet, comfortable, helpful staff and good breakfast
We arrived at the hotel at 2pm, check in time, to be told the rooms were not ready due to water problems. We came back at 3pm and were able to check in. Reception staff were very apologetic and helpful. Rooms very nice and bed comfortable.
The next day no water. We decided to go to the beautiful pool pictured on the website! This pool is actually across the street and services all ST hotels. It was like a public swimming pool.
The water was disgusting and there were hundreds of people crammed into the space. We were surrounded by smokers, vapers and lots of very loud young men who had no spatial awareness!
This was not a pleasant experience and we specifically chose this hotel because of the pool!!! We were very disappointed.
The staff. Unfriendly. Got to our room. Couldn’t describe the smell. We turned the air con on, went to dinner. Came back, It was off. HOT and the smell. The toilet flush plate broken. So when you push the flush it runs for about 20 mins. The room phone didn’t work. When I walked down to let them know. They were annoyed and did nothing. Use the flush wisely when you have little kids trying to sleep for an early flight. Should have stayed the extra night in the nice Airbnb we had. One of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Wasn’t cheap either.
We had a wonderful stay at St Azur Hotel and were impressed by the excellent value for money. The location is fantastic, with plenty of restaurants, cafés, and eateries nearby, and the promenade is just a minute's walk away.
The hotel is very well connected. Airport bus links are only about a four-minute walk away, while ferries and boat services can be reached within ten minutes on foot, making it easy to explore Malta.
The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the breakfast offered a great variety of options each morning. A major bonus was the complimentary access to the Aqualuna pool, which was a fantastic addition to our stay.
The staff were outstanding throughout. They were highly responsive to our emails before arrival and equally helpful and welcoming at reception. Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations and was an absolute bargain for the price we paid. Highly recommended.
