We stayed here and celebrated getting engaged during our time. We booked our stay with breakfast included, however upon arrival we were told we had no breakfast included. We showed the staff the confirmation which was no problem on day 1 and the breakfast staff were great, Sandy (I believe) working in the executive lounge was particularly brilliant and helpful. On day 2 we had the same problem where we were told no breakfast was included so again we showed the confirmation. The lady at reception, name starting with a T, I won’t share the rest, was particularly unhelpful and stated we didn’t have it included even when she saw the confirmation, after having to directly show her where it was stated on confirmation and email did she then say to email it over to the reception so it could be added. She began helping another customer at the reception at the time of explaining this to us and couldn’t be less interested in us even when I was asking her questions on what to do. I had then emailed over the confirmation to the email the reception provided to which again we had the same problem of them stating we have no breakfast and to quote we would need to contact the agency (Expedia) in which we booked with to sort it as the hotel would not help us. We decided to give up and not return for breakfast even though we had paid and booked this. Besides the reception staff’s poor attitude and unhelpfulness, the room was always clean and other breakfast staff were great.
Reception in a different building, lift digital screen not working, the staff was good, but... lot of bugs in the bathroom and I found a big cricket in the bed. I asked to be moved to a different building (the regional) and it was much better there.
We've been there for the 4th time now because it is a nice place to explore the beautiful island of Malta. There are many amenities in the room, the room we were in was a good size for 3 people, the breakfast is filling and you have a variety of options and it was served in the Grana restaurant next door. Friendly and helpful staff at reception. Only minus is that although the room had been made up for 3 people, the teas/coffee/water/cups were only left for 2 people, so they should be more mindful of how many people are going to be in the room.
The Urban rooms are a collection of apartments, located behind the main hotel 115 The Strand rather than an actual hotel. The room was incredibly generous, with a small terrace that was great for applying sun cream without getting it on the hotel floor. Bathroom was also of generous size.
Breakfast was a good selection of hot and cold food, the hash browns as an English traveller were particularly appreciated. This is served just across the road, at 115 The Strand.
Staff were also incredibly friendly, both at breakfast and at check in.
Whilst there is no swimming pool, the free access to the lido across the road was a bonus. Bands were collected from reception every morning. Normally the lido is €17 a day to use, so a great benefit of staying at the hotel. Pool towels can be collected from the lido.
I celebrated my birthday there and was touched by the staffs efforts to decorate the room with balloons. Extremely thoughtful indeed.
Cons:
All in all, excellent value for money.
This hotel didn't offer what it promised... The shared kitchen couldn't be used 'cause it was too dusty, the jacuzzi was empty, we didn't get the breakfasts on the roof terrace like other guests staying at Urban Rooms before us but downstairs at the back of the building, the breakfast is elaborated but of mediocre quality. Some people of the staff don't greet you in the morning and don't even make eye contact. The staircase at Urban Rooms was dirty during our whole stay, it was not even once cleaned during the week. Mirrors and doors were not clean in the room. Nice big room though, well designed. This hotel is well conceived but badly run. We're not coming back...
