We have just returned for a week here. A nice hotel with nice size rooms which are cleaned daily.
We were in room 104 on the ground floor and paid for the Aircon which i think was 11 euro per day if paying cash and 13 euro per day if paying card. the balcony was nice with a table and chairs etc, but when the aircon was on, it blew out red hot air as the unit was right next to the door when you went outside. So you have to turn it off while you're out there!
We only had breakfast in the hotel a couple of days as we found it poor but there are plenty of places to find in Kalamaki for a breakfast!
there were a few things that bugged us.. the wait time for food, i suggest ordering at least half an hour before you're going to be getting hungry! it took over 30 mins for some cheesy chips most days!
I know we went in the school holidays and there were plenty of sunbeds but if you want one with a parasol they are mostly only on the ones round the pool. the rest are on grassy areas with no shade. We struggled to get just one sunbed for us to share do to people "claiming" them early in the morning. Even leaving them for 3-4 hours! For this reason, we actually went to a different hotel some of the mornings to use their pools and beds!
The price for drinks and food is a little pricy but to be expected. It's a little annoying that they don't allow tabs which meant we needed to carry money on us all the time where as other hotels usually allow a tab to be paid at the end of the day. the lady who works the bar can be very blunt, i asked her about a tab and she just said "no" hey ho!
the location it's self is great, a 5 min walk to the beach and same to the main road in Kalamaki with a super market and shop close by.
We paid for a late checkout due to a late flight but be aware we chatted to other guests who had been charged different amounts for shorter times. we paid 50 euro to keep the room till 5pm. I chatted to another guest who had paid 60 euro to keep their room till 3pm!
Overall, we did have a great week, and we love coming to Kalamaki, but we feel there are much better hotels to stay at.
Food area & menus need some work. Such a modern place with average menu served in paper wallets. Prices for drinks was steep also so makes you question to get another
We have just returned from a 10 night stay at the Ionian Blue. It is in a fab location, it feels out of the way and almost rural, but really isn't far from anything at all, within a few mins you are at the beach or local bars and restaurants/shops. There were always loads of sunbeds at the pool, the staff were amazing and everything was kept clean and tidy. The bar stayed open late for the England games (until the last person left, handy if you wanted a more relaxed watch) and there was plenty of food and drink choices to buy throughout the day (not silly hotel prices either). Breakfast selection was good and was open from 7.30 to 10am. We had 2 family rooms between 3 adults. The rooms were very spacious, clean and well equipped. We paid for the air-conditioning in one of them (my son wasn't fussed!). The only small negative was that it leaked all over the terrace when it was on, they came out to look but said it was fine (the drain was on the other side of the terrace so it had nowhere to go), so we just mopped up with towels each morning, this was a bit of a pain considering the cost of €110 for the 10 days, but it certainly didn't ruin the holiday and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good mixture of relaxation and local amenities.
June 20th 26. Last day of 14 night stay and a very nice clean comfortable hotel, ideally situated in kalamaki. Its a 10 minute walk to Nostos beach and we used Mimi sunbeds on the beach (15€) per day very nice location and free chilled water provided by Mimi (great guy) . Its a short 5 minute walk off the strip with loads of bars, restaurants to choose from, I can honestly report that we never had a bad meal anywhere and our favourite place turned out to be Melon bar (great food and drinks and Claude the owner is a fantastic host who makes everyone feel very special) Back to the hotel, it's spotlessly clean. We stayed in room 312 3rd floor, dont worry about requesting a pool view they all meet that! Would we stay here again? (Definitely) Mel and Dee Wolves ay we
The Ionian blue is a lovely hotel in a good location, being 10 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes from the restaurants and shops. We had a twin room which also had two other twin beds in it so was very spacious. We were on the 3rd floor which l had requested.
