My husband and I stayed at this hotel (Not the adults only part) for 2weeks from the end of July and had a fantastic holiday ! We did try the adults only part as you can use the pool by paying €15 (for the sun beds) each for the day but found this to quiet for us . From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble for the staff here everyone was very nice. Our room was spotless and cleaned everyday and was a good size with a lovely garden view . The pool area was well maintained and sun-beds were always available . The hotel is nicely located a short walk each way takes you to the beach or the strip for a good selection of restaurants , bars ,and shops also you can have a nice walk along beach approx 45mins to neighbouring Laganas . The overall best part of our stay was the restaurant , the food was amazing and plentiful and ran like a well oiled machine with a great team of staff especially George the restaurant manager who was very welcoming and always had a genuine smile for everyone . Well done Golden sun see you again soon .
We have just returned from a lovely week, albeit a very hot 35*, in the Golden Sun Hotel, (Family). But why are there so many negative reviews? Noisey aircraft? Food? Rude Staff? E'rrr! Dont people do their homework before they choose a holiday? You can research holidays on YouTube aswell as Tripadvisor, so I'm afraid I don't agree with most of these negative comments. This hotel was faultless in our opinion. Yes, if you look hard enough you'll always find faults. But why? The Reception staff were excellent and very polite in every way. The room, with a garden view, was very clean. We had a problem with our safe, which was left closed by the previous occupants. A quick phone call to reception and within ten minutes someone came to open it and reset it. While he was here he also reset our air-con. The room maids worked hard and the rooms were cleaned daily. Excellent service from all. The following day our shower head had split, another quick phone call, and half an hour later it was repaired. The restaurant was exceptionally clean. George, the restaurant manager, showed us around and regularly advised us on daily choices. The food was good, hot and plenty to choose from. No faults from us. The pool area was clean and plenty of sunbeds were available. The Pool bar was clean and was self-service for beer, wine and soft drinks. Cocktails were also available, which were made by the lovely friendly lady behind the bar. I don't know her name, but nothing was ever a problem. The evening bar was well stocked with premium brands. A big shout goes out to Alida the barmaid, who always had a smile and speaks excellent english. The beach is a short walk from the hotel. Although it's a long beach, most of it is taken up by turtle nests which are fenced off, but if you're prepared to walk further down the beach there were plenty of quiet spots. The sea was lovely and warm and crystal clear. The beech is also on the flight path which was quite a spectacular sight. The strip at Kalamaki is also a short walk away and has plenty of bars and restaurants. Previous comments will go into it in further detail. I couldn't find fault with this hotel, which ticked all our boxes. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone.
We have just arrived home after a week at the hotel side of the golden sun. I was a little worried after some of the reviews on here but needn’t have been. We stayed in room 304, the room was modern and enough space for a couple and cleaned daily. The entire hotel is immaculate, the staff work SO hard to keep it clean and tidy! All staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we didn’t get names but there wasn’t a single member of staff I could say a bad word about. One night our air conditioning stopped working at 3AM and due to the heat we rang reception, somebody was up and fixing it within minutes! The staff really are amazing!
The food was what you’d expect from an all inclusive but there was a range and we were happy for what we paid. The only let down is the drinks… there aren’t any “branded” drinks in the all inclusive but, you were able to serve yourself which was great for not needing to queue. We asked for ice for our drinks and they always gave us plenty. I’d recommend taking a bottle or Stanley cup as we filled ours with ice and then regularly topped up with water. The coffee isn’t the best but we took sachets you can have hot or cold so they were fine.
There are loads of sun loungers but you do get the typical Brits who wake up at 7AM and reserve beds so it would be better if the hotel enforced the policy of removing towels that were laid with nobody on them before 9. That being said we never struggled to get a lounger and even by 11AM there was still plenty! The pool is lovely and spacious too.
We did go to the resort hotel next door for our last two days and they charge €15 a bed but it is SO worth it because the pool is empty and the beds are luxury. You can’t use all inclusive there but they’re happy if you’re drinking out of a bottle so we just nipped back next door and filled them up.
The evening entertainment was a let down but, the strip is close enough so we walked there every night. The airport cafe is great for plane spotting at the end of the road. Which leads me to my point of the noise of aeroplanes… it is VERY loud. It didn’t bother us but, you do need to bare that in mind. You can hear it in your rooms too. Highly recommend eating at family on the strip and grabbing a drink at oasis!
Beach is a 2 minute walk and you can get beds and a parasol for €20 - make sure you have cash!
All in all, a lovely hotel with a friendly atmosphere. We would definitely return!
Just got back yesterday from The Golden Sun ,which on the whole is a good hotel .....a few little changes and it could be a great hotel . First of all reception ,very friendly and helpful ,had an issue with the safe ,which was swiftly dealt with . The room was ,small & adequate, for 1 week only......great shower . Room service very good , ground floor room which looked out onto the beautiful ,very well kept gardens . Hotel location is at the end of the runway ,more or less ....the aircraft flyovers & noise , didn't bother me one bit , you get used to it . The restaurant is ok , George on the door is fantastic and a credit to the hotel . The food is ok but only for a 1 week stay , I found it a bit repetitive, but over the week it was ok ...my wife apart from salad found it hard to string a meal together as she is vegetarian......only my opinion,as plenty of people were enjoying it, filling their plates and returning to fill again. The pool area is good , sunbeds are sometimes scarce , due to people from all nationalities claiming beds for the whole family and disappearing for hours at a time & also claiming a bed next to them ,so nobody was near them......a lot of miserable people & families of all ages.....some unable to crack a smile. The beach is only a 3 minute walk and the strip a 10 minute walk.
The bad bits . The drinks were shockingly poor . Syrup sugary cocktails .....the local Baileys was tasted like powdered milk with a hint of a Whiskey flavour. The non alcoholic local beer. The diet coke was good . The music around the pool was dire, read the room , it was like going to a 60th birthday party ,where they played garage music & should be a variety of music for all ages . Evening entertainment as above. The oven in the pool bar to keep the chips ...lukewarm/ cold needs turning up ....ice cream ok . My opinion only ,but if the hotel went to half board , upped there entertainment, even SKY (for the football) & quality of drinks and I would happily pay and not leave the hotel ....although the posh exclusive area of the hotel looked souless . First time back in Greece for a while , experienced Kalamaki , but I wouldn't be in a rush to come back. Like I said my opinion only , people return to The Golden Sun ,year after year , so lots of people are extremely happy here and good on them .
Beautiful place, villas were superb absolutely spotless, spacious and really comfortable One suggestion would be a parasol in the patio area as the sun was relentless. Breakfast was lovely and all staff were exceptional Special mention goes to Emeliono who was a credit to the place Also Kelly at the pool was lovely Altogether absolute recommendation for anyone considering
