Really disappointed with Katerina Palace. We stayed self catering and had two of the studio rooms. These rooms were basic and VERY tired and dated. One of the rooms, number 27, had an awful smell from the moment we entered it and it remained for the 2 weeks we were there. Showers in both rooms weren't great, water pressure would constantly change whilst we showered. There were several broken things in both rooms that hadn't been replaced. Cutlery and crockery were just random items thrown together. We didn't attempt the use the hob as we weren't convinced it would work. We always like to book places that have air conditioning and this one did, but at an extra cost of 10 euros per room per day. We were very shocked at this cost - but it was made even more difficult by the fact that it could only be paid for in cash. The tourist tax was also required in cash, as was the payment (NOT deposit) for the safe in the room. After sorting all of the extras, a member of the reception team took us to our rooms. She informed us that towels were changed every 3rd day and beds/linen every 4th day. Towels were changed sporadically and our beds were only changed once whilst we were there. We arrived on a Monday and beds were changed the following Monday. I did raise it but the lady on reception wasn't bothered. No apology. This attitude from staff was pretty standard during our stay. You had to be at the pool before 8am to reserve any sunbeds - even though it said you shouldn't reserve beds and towels would be removed of you were. Towels were never removed and people reserved them daily. Also, there were very few sunbeds around the pools to accommodate even half the guests staying there. The pools were ok, not bad sizes but not the cleanest. We would definitely go back to Zante but we will not be returning to Katerina Palace. We wouldn't recommend it to anyone and are very shocked that TUI do!
We stayed in a self catering room, number 13. It was shabby, tired and in places dirty. For example a yellow sticky patch by the fridge door. The ‘kitchen’ was two very old electric rings, evocative of a a 1940’s bedsit. We had two mismatched forks and hardly sufficient cooking utensils. There was no tea towel, sponges etc. into the bathroom, the shower head cradle was broken, so you had to constantly hold the head and tube. The tiled floor was tired and grubby. The single sink tap was loose, and they hadn’t even supplied a bar of soap.
Into the main room itself, the furniture is very old, very brown and pretty shabby. Again the floor is tired and grubby. Strangely every morning a quantity of dust appeared from under the door which swirled around the room. The main problem was the noise, which was constant from the next room’s air conditioning generator. As they had paid the 10 Euro per day charge; this rattled and hummed 24/7.
They did supply a safe, in the wardrobe, but we weren’t prepared to pay 50 Euros to use it!!
All in all the room was awful, sleep was impossible and this just exacerbated to a resort which was falsely billed as a beach resort, I could go in but I think that’s enough.
We stayed at Katerina Palace for a week and overall had a nice holiday.
The hotel is in a fantastic location, with lots of shops, bars and restaurants all within walking distance. Zakynthos Town is also only around 10 minutes away by taxi, which was really convenient.
The hotel itself is spotlessly clean. Our room was cleaned every day and towels were changed every other day. We found all staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
The pool bar can get extremely busy at times as there is only one person serving, but the food and drinks were nice. One thing that did disappoint us was being told on our last day that you are only allowed to drink your own drinks in your room and not around the pool. (We had a can of pepsi, some water and a coffee it wasn’t alcohol) We had been there for a whole week and this was only mentioned to us on our final day. There are also no signs around the pool making this rule clear, so it would be helpful if this was communicated to guests when they arrive.
Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice. We found it was better to go earlier rather than towards the end of breakfast service, when some things were less available.
The biggest issue for us was the availability of sunbeds. You really need to be up around 7–7:30am to secure one, and it doesn’t seem like there are enough beds for the number of guests staying at the hotel. Sunbeds where breaking but did not seem to be replaced. There is a second smaller pool, but there aren’t many sunbeds around it either.
The pool areas are always kept very clean, but the flooring can become extremely slippery when wet. We saw several people, both adults and children, have some nasty falls during our stay, so shoes are definitely recommended.
With some improvements this place could be amazing!!
We initially thought the hotel ticks all our boxes and thought great! The negative reviews were not justified!
However -
7 broken sunbeds, with no new ones being replaced. Slippery floor around the pool ( husband slipped) The second pool - why have a bar with no one there and no music either? What’s the point in having a beautiful upstairs bar which overlooks the pool and a sea view with a lovely sunset but nobody in there or behind the bar! Surely 2-4-1 cocktails 5-7 pm would be a great idea ? Bar staff - we tried to make an effort and we also try to speak a bit of Greek ( we have been to different Greek islands over 10 times) but we felt they were not that bothered to be there sadly. Especially at the end of the day when we could see loads of glasses to be collected but they seemed unbothered and would rather look at there phone.
Now for the good points: Rooms are great, especially air con! Never had one so quiet! They are cleaned every day with new towels every other day. Not sure about the 3rd bed for our 5ft10 daughter though, more suitable for a hobbit and not comfortable for her but she didn’t complain.. We also loved Argassi and would definitely return, also if you see there are no sunbeds available every day ( sad people who get up at 6.30am and reserve them, the selfish ones that is) then head to Skyfall! Free sunbeds overlooking the sea and they are so comfortable! Just buy a drink or food. Also the staff are so happy and friendly..
Sadly for us, we will not return to Katerina Palace and I hope Katerina reads the reviews and makes some improvements, as I feel it could be so much better and perhaps from speaking to other people who have been there a lot, perhaps it’s lost its way.
Knowing where to start with this review. Our daughter chose this Hotel 🏨 for 50 of us guests to stay for her July 2026 Wedding, she chose well. From the moment we arrived all staff treat us with the utmost respect and helpfulness. The rooms were spotless clean and carefully chosen to accommodate all of our party including my 84 year old father. He was able with his frame to be independent and go to breakfast on his own (he’s an early bird) and the lady staff in the breakfast room selected his food for him each day and took it to his table. This type of kindness was greatly appreciated by all my family. A separate room was decorated for the bride/bridesmaids etc to get ready on the morning along with Prosecco and orange juice for some lovely mimosas. Katerina came to chat most days which was a special touch, then Christina/Nicoletta and Athena went to every trouble to fulfill any request we had. Every single guest took a special shine to Nick, he worked tirelessly in the crazy heat on the bar every day without complaint and a big smile on his face, each and every member of staff are a credit to this Hotel. We met a lot of lovely families/people around the pool who visit here year after year and we can see why. 100% we will be back here to this island and most definitely to this Hotel who made our visit so special
