The Alykanas Beach Grand Hotel by Zante Plaza, is located right on the beach in Alikanas, and offers a perfect blend of relaxation and entertainment. The location of this hotel is perfect...a short walk to town and all the shops and bars/restaurants and right on the beachfront. The beautiful little beach area in front of hotel is not a private area and has no sunbeds however the pool deck is so close it didnt matter. There are private hire sunbeds available at several beach bars a few minutes stroll from the hotel. The hotel itself is definitely not a 4 star hotel and this is evident in the rooms and grounds/gardens. Our room was 'upgraded' from a superior room to a 2 bed family room for which we were initially very grateful. The room was clean and neat. However as 4 adults it was not ideal as the second bedroom had bunkbeds and a broken light which we reported and it was fixed. The main bedroom has no wall mirror to do hair or makeup, only mirrors inside the cupboard doors. Neither bedroom has reading/bedside lamps. There is a decent hairdryer provided which is great. We did not use the air-conditioning as whilst is was warm, the breeze through the windows was fine. The bathroom was spacious and well lit however the shower was open and this resulted in the bathroom floor being flooded after each shower. We had to use our towels to mop up all the water as the little mat provided was sodden after a shower. The hotel gardens are not well maintained. The pool area is lovely with more than enough sunbeds and close to the bar area. Wine, beer and soft drinks are all self serve and on tap. The beer was OK and the wine unpalatable. Cocktails are pre-mix but we enjoyed them. The bar stocks spirits and shooters too. All meals are all inclusive buffet style and whilst at first glance the food on offer appears to be limited, we were pleasantly surprised. The food was actually very good and varied with themed nights too. Lovely fresh salads and breads every day and a large variety of meat, fish and chicken dishes. Dessert was a bit repetitive and there is also a little kids buffet selection. The staff are hard-working and for the most part very friendly and kind. Please do tip them for good service. All in all a great hotel for a budget break but don't expect luxury!
This was the 2nd time I have been to this hotel in Sep (1st time in 2024). Absolutely love it. It is ideal if you like on the beach holidays which this hotel is. The sea is beautiful and it is warm, some days like stepping into the bath! On a clear day you can see Kefalonia and the Greek mainland.
Rooms are ideal (2 of us), 1 minor downside, if your room faces west you cannot relax on the balcony until well after sunset as it gets the sun all afternoon. The staff are brilliant and really friendly, always have a smile for you. There are 3 main blocks (our room this year was 142 on the 2nd floor and 13? on the 1st floor in 2024) this block is only accessible by stairs but there is a lift which you can access for the other 2 blocks.
Food is excellent and you are spoilt for choice at lunch and dinner with meat and fish dishes, salads are always a choice. Drink available all day so you don’t go thirsty!
The small town area of Alykanas is full of restaurants and shops and a pleasant walk from the hotel if you want a change of scenery.
If you go to Zakynthos for the first time, I would definitely recommend a boat trip as you can really appreciate the beauty of the coastline and the incredible turquoise sea. This island is a gem in the Ionian Islands.

What can I say, i am already looking to book next year!! I came with my partner and best friend but will return with my family. The staff were amazing, in every department! The gardener was fantastic, cleaners came everyday, the chef is amazing.. the food catered for everyone.. I loved the kids corner! And the chef on the snack bar was so accommodating, love her! The choice of drinks were incredible, we wasn't expecting such a selection, beer on tap (we are beer drinkers at home so was ideal).. the lifeguard, what a fantastic guy! Always on the ball! There is a lifeguard on the beach too (unfortunately we did need their assistance at the beginning of the holiday but cannot fault them as they always made sure my partner was ok for the rest of the holiday) I've never been to a hotel were i felt so safe. Even though I was loud (naturally do not have an inside voice) and weren't allowed spirts for a couple of days (i rarely drink spirits anyway but was my own fault really), this showed me how caring they are and how Miss Zoe (hotel manager) especially, had our best interests at heart.. the rooms were stunning with amazing views...the hotel is close to so many amenities.. bocca beach bar next door is awesome! I cannot express my thanks to all the staff. I can continue reviewing until my thumbs hurt but just hope this gives you a little insight into how amazing this place is. 10/10. Definitely booking again.. if they will have me lol.
Just arrived back from a week stay at this hotel and can not fault it. Friendly welcome, we arrived early and our room was ready straight away, everything explained clearly. Reception staff helpful. All the staff were polite and friendly, the bar staff remembered our drinks order. The food was good, different theme each night, good choice and variety, also a great selection of drinks for all inclusive. The room was clean and tidy, perfect for what we needed. Fresh towels provided each day. The location is great right on the beach front, never struggled to get a sunbed despite getting up a little later. A few mins walk for bars, restaurants and shops. Would definitely return! Thank you for a great week!
Great Hotel ,can't fault it in anyway fantastic location great food,right on the beach ,two minute walk into the village good number of nice bars and tavernas .Staff amazing and friendly Room was perfect ,check in quick and efficient as was check out
