Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We had a lovely stay at this hotel overall. The location is great, just a very easy 1-minute walk from the Kamari strip, and the staff are absolutely lovely and incredibly helpful.
One thing to be aware of is the aeroplanes. The hotel is very close to the airport, and despite previous reviews saying you barely notice them, trust me — you really do! They are very loud, quite startling, and fly incredibly low and close overhead. It can honestly feel a little terrifying when one passes! The good thing is that there don’t seem to be many flights during the night, so it was generally quiet enough to sleep.
Breakfast was probably the most disappointing part of the stay. It’s definitely a continental-style breakfast, which wasn’t made clear to us when booking. There are a few hot options such as beans, eggs, cocktail sausages and bacon, but otherwise it’s mainly standard pastries, toast and yoghurt options. After a few days, it became quite repetitive and boring.
As for Kamari itself, it’s nice to visit, but in my opinion, there’s not a huge amount to do. Most of the restaurants along the beach strip seemed to have almost identical menus — a few traditional Greek dishes, pizza and pasta — and many of the shops were very similar souvenir stores. After 2–3 days, we found ourselves getting a little bored.
If you’re looking for more atmosphere, Fira is much livelier, with better-quality restaurants and more interesting shops. A taxi from Kamari to Fira costs around €30 each way.
Overall, a nice hotel in a convenient location with wonderful staff, but definitely something to consider if you’re sensitive to noise or looking for lots to do locally.
Costa Grand Santorini – Fabulous Stay ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What a fabulous time we have had at Costa Grand Santorini! Sadly, tonight is our last night, we are staying in Room 515, a pool-view room. Having experienced the hotel for ourselves, I can honestly say that the hotel’s 5-star rating is absolutely deserved.
We stayed on a half-board basis, and so glad we did. Breakfast offered a really good variety of options, but the evening meals were exceptional. Everything was beautifully prepared, cooked to perfection, and there was plenty of choice.
🌟 Fantastic Staff & Service
Every member of staff we encountered — from reception to the restaurants and bar — were very friendly and helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and their professional service really added to our stay.
Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a great shower and everything we needed. The room was cleaned every day, with fresh towels and bottled water replenished. Our cleaner was a particularly lovely lady and always did a wonderful job.
There is also a fridge in the room, which we found really useful. We bought some beers from the local supermarket and were able to enjoy them around the pool, which was a nice bonus.
🏖️ Pool, Sun Loungers & Beach
The sun loungers are probably the most comfortable I have ever used! One thing to mention, though, is that if you have mobility issues, you may find them a little difficult to get in and out of.
The beach itself was not really for me. It consists of quite large stones, so I would definitely recommend appropriate footwear if you want to walk along or into the sea.
You do get low-flying planes passing over the hotel, perhaps up to around 40 a day. They can be noisy, but personally I found them quite fascinating — I actually found watching the planes surprisingly therapeutic! I f you are someone who wants complete peace and quiet, it is worth being aware of this before booking.
🍹 Great Location
The hotel is in a fantastic location, just around a 5-minute walk from the main strip in Kamari. There are plenty of great bars, restaurants and shops nearby, and once again, we found everyone friendly and welcoming.
❤️ Would We Return?
Absolutely!
This was our first visit to Santorini, but it certainly won't be our last. Costa Grand has given us a fantastic holiday, with excellent food, lovely accommodation, wonderful staff and a great location.
If you are considering staying here, I would highly recommend Costa Grand Santorini. It has genuinely lived up to its 5-star reputation, and we have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay.
Thank you, Costa Grand, for a fabulous holiday — we will definitely be back! 🇬🇷☀️
Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Costa Grand resort and spa. Couldn’t not fault it. Main reception staff are very professional and seem well organised, check in ran smoothly and really appreciated all the initial info about hotel and the area. Room was beautiful, smelt lovely and spotless, as was the hotel! Pool also very clean, chilled vibes with comfy sun loungers. Breakfast was a 10/10 - lots of food choice to enjoy in a lovely setting. Short transfer from airport and we loved watching the low flying aeroplanes. Overall fab hotel, would highly recommend.
We stayed at the Costa Grand Hotel and can say without hesitation that it was a wonderful experience.
A BEAUTIFUL RESORT The hotel itself is truly special, very well maintained and thoughtfully designed. Despite the hotel being practically full, we never had the feeling of being in a crowded resort. Staying at the Costa Grand gives you the feeling of living in a typical Greek village, with small two-storey white buildings harmoniously arranged and surrounded by beautifully maintained spaces. The resort also has eight swimming pools of different sizes, all very well maintained and equipped with umbrellas and extremely comfortable sun loungers, available free of charge to guests. One small point worth mentioning concerns the sunbeds: as unfortunately happens in many hotels, some are “reserved” in the morning simply by leaving towels on them and then remain unused for several hours. It would be appreciated if the hotel could monitor this a little more closely, out of consideration for all guests.
THE BEACH AND THE SEA The black beach is certainly one of the resort’s most distinctive features. Getting into the water requires a little care because the volcanic seabed is made up of rocks and stones, some of which can be slippery. We therefore recommend using water shoes.
IMPECCABLE CLEANLINESS Another major strength is undoubtedly the cleanliness. We found the hotel immaculate at all times of the day: the rooms, pools, common areas and indoor spaces are all maintained with exceptional care.
THE REAL HIGHLIGHT: THE PEOPLE From reception and guest relations to the bar, restaurant, waiters, lifeguards and wellness centre staff, we met extraordinary people who were always smiling, kind, helpful and genuinely attentive to their guests’ wellbeing. We had the feeling of being surrounded by a very close-knit team that works with passion and succeeds in creating a genuine sense of hospitality. It is precisely this personal attention that turned a beautiful holiday into a truly special one.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE RECEPTION TEAM A special thank you goes to Thanos and Anna, who were extremely helpful and kind on the day we arrived. They helped us enormously, especially at the beginning with our room arrangements, listening to our needs and quickly finding the perfect solution for us, and they continued to be very attentive during the following days. Moreover, the entire reception team was always, friendly, helpful and smiling, and took a genuine interest in our stay throughout.
GIORGIA, OUR “MULTITASKER” Another person who absolutely deserves to be mentioned is Giorgia, who works in guest reception and guest services. We jokingly nicknamed her “the multitasker”. Always available and generous with her advice, she helped us with information about excursions, restaurants, transfers and so many other things. Her helpfulness and knowledge of the area were truly invaluable.
BREAKFAST AND THE RESTAURANT TEAM An extraordinary thank you also goes to the entire team at the beachfront restaurant and, in particular, to Amalia, the manager of the restaurant by the sea. She is impeccable, always present and extremely attentive to making sure that everything runs perfectly. Her friendliness towards guests is truly remarkable.
We had chosen the Bed & Breakfast option, so we cannot give a complete review of the restaurant for lunch and dinner. However, the breakfast buffet is very good and varied, with a wide choice of food. We particularly appreciated the fresh fruit. Our only small observation is that the orange juice was perhaps a little too sweet for our taste, but of course this is entirely a matter of personal preference.
We must also mention the kindness and warmth of Dora, who welcomed us every morning with a wonderful smile and such genuine friendliness. Amalia and Dora are the two people we had the most contact with, but the entire team was fantastic.
A WELLNESS CENTRE NOT TO BE MISSED We also greatly enjoyed the hotel’s Wellness Centre, located on the lower floor, directly underneath reception. It is a lovely environment, perfect for enjoying moments of relaxation during your holiday. The centre is run by Eleftheria and Esmeralda, who are highly trained and professionally competent. The massages we received were incredibly relaxing.
IN CONCLUSION We liked the Costa Grand Hotel very, very much. It is a beautiful, well-maintained, exceptionally clean and well-organized resort in a wonderful location. But above all, it is a hotel where we felt welcomed, pampered and genuinely cared for as guests. We will almost certainly return to Santorini and the Costa Grand to see everyone again.
