Atlantica Aegean Blue

I’ve just arrived home from 14 days at the Atlantica Aegean Blue in Rhodes. We had a great holiday overall but the hotel is not a 5 star in my opinion. We booked with TUI and spent over roughly £22k for the 2 weeks for 3 adults and 2 children. We had 2 swim up rooms.

When we arrived we were underwhelmed. The reception is very basic. Not that that makes a holiday but it was our first impression.

The rooms are very cosy. The swim up was great but was next to a main road so could get quite noisy especially given they’re building a new hotel across the road. The cleaners are lovely but don’t clean to the standard I have experienced in other 5 star hotels. Everytime I wanted my bathtub cleaned I had to ask for it to be done. The patio area leading into the swim up wasn’t cleaned & when I asked they brushed it with a dry mop which obviously didn’t clean it. 2 weeks in & out of a pool & surrounded by grass, you can imagine how messy it got. The air con is also not the best. It got us through, but just about. The mini bar is stocked every other day with 3 soft drinks & a beer. The beds are ok, but again, not what I’ve experienced in other 5 star hotels. The pools themselves need a refresh. They have tiles falling off everywhere, luckily they aren’t sharp tiles so didn’t cause too much of an issue.

Drinks There are no premium drinks in this hotel. It’s all local alcohol which was terrible. We spent a lot of money in the mini mart on site buying our own alcohol.

Food The food was actually good. The buffet was great and had something for everyone. The snack bar at the pool is also fantastic but can get repetitive when you eat in there everyday, but I still wouldn’t knock it. The à la carte restaurants are really nice but very very hot. We left the Greek in the middle of our dinner as we couldn’t take the heat. They’re all outside without aircon & a few ceiling fans that did nothing. We didn’t end up going to the Italian as people complained it was hotter that the Greek. There is no room service at all in this hotel which was a shock to us as we’ve never had this in any 5 star hotel (even if you have to pay).

Mini mart Fantastic & reasonably priced. Saved us!

Spa Fantastic but pricey.

Entertainment The daytime entertainment is great for children. There’s lots on, volleyball, waterpolo, kids clubs etc. We joined in most things and the children loved it all, especially as the reps are so fantastic. However, the evening entertainment is shocking. Experienced better in a 3 star! We didn’t want to go out as we’d spent so much money on the holiday itself, but I’d suggest finding somewhere to go in the evening. We ended up playing lots of games on our patio. Would advise taking lots of games for the kids for the evening. As we were drinking our own alcohol we didn’t mind staying in our room.

Waterpark Kids loved it.

Beach Nice stoney beach, was really upset you have to pay for sunbeds which cost €7.50 per person per day.

Pools Good selection of pools. Need a refresh given how many tiles are coming off. Was a fight to get sunbeds by 11am. The 5 of us often ended up with 2 beds.

This seems like a hugely negative review and in the first few days I would have given this hotel 3 stars, but we made the holiday by changing our mindset and meeting lovely people. However, I wouldn’t book to go back, especially at the price.

My 5th time at this hotel and another great experience. I went with my family as a group of 13 of us with 2 children. The rooms were really nice and spacious. Also very clean. And were cleaned well everyday. The food and drink still very good. With the exception that last time I came you could get gyros from the snack bar and they do not offer that anymore which is disappointing as they are my favourite. Also, the waterpark is good fun. But they seem to have halved the amount of rings so you are waiting ages for them as no one wants to give them up. A couple time I finally got a ring and then then closed for lunch. So I didn’t bother after that as I felt it was a waste of time. Before you had no problem with rings and would spend hours there. Pools were nice and clean and were a good temp. Swim up bar also very good. Beach tide has come up to the hotel now though so you have to go out a side gate to come out of the complex to go to the beach and can get a little crowded as everyone is in one space rather than having the whole beach front. I had a great holiday however but it’s just so different to how it used to be in terms of the facilities that really made it a great holiday before

Beautiful place, we enjoyed as the family. One of the nice additions is the spa center in the resort, Aegeo spa. We visited several times, including the kids. Rhoda, Liudmyla, Evelina, Analyn and Despina made our spa treatments enjoyable!
