Clean Modern Hotel.
A clean modern hotel a few minutes walk from the questionable Platis Gialos beach and restaurants. We booked it because it catered for mobility issues however on arrival you still have to walk up a big set of steps, before you can reach the lobby and lifts.
The hotel is very clean, though a big basket of dirty towels right by the entrance seems a strange place to store them.
Our room was a strange one, on Level 1, a short walk from the lift. It is, however right next to the cleaners enclave where they eat and sleep. Some loud laughter on occasion but nothing annoying. They were very respectful and polite.
The room was fine, with a nice sea view, lovely air con which worked really well, coffee machine was so loud, I thought it was going to throw itself off the counter.
Bathroom was modern and very clean, slight design fault with the glass partition being a little short allowing water all over the floor. Shower was powerful with a big round rain head that worked well, also had a shower wand. Really liked the bathroom.
TV was fine, though occasionally had to go into settings and clear caches to make Netflix work. In general though, it worked well. Fridge was ok, very small, struggled to get 2 litre bottles in and only used 500ml.
Beds were comfy, sheets clean and nice light covers, pillows were nice and thick. The only downside is none of it was changed all week, just made every day.
Outside, the bar and pools were all nice and clean. Service was good, staff friendly and accommodating. The only bad thing outside was the decking. Way past its usefulness and I got several huge splinters getting on and off the sunbeds. The sunbeds were good, all wooden with thick mattresses, very sturdy and easy to get on and off. The only downside was how many there was, this is a quiet hotel, some days, there were only a couple of people and the closeness of the beds to each other sometimes made it a bit awkward when people sat next to you.
The ordering system is a bit janky. You press the buzzer on your umbrella and a member of staff walks from the bar to your bed, takes your order, walks back, get your drinks, walks back, then another member of staff walks back with the payment machine. It was literally easier to walk and get a beer, and walk back, much to the bemusement of the staff.
Food was fine, although expensive, after the third day, we got bored of paying €45 for bar snacks and walked to a lovely little cafe called Caffé Portioli (I think this used to be the popular Gyros place), where we ate for the rest of the holiday. When paying, you will also have to tip or not before you can progress to the payment screen. We tipped, so it didn’t affect us, but it might be awkward for people who don’t.
The pools were nice though they allow glasses around the pool. We saw two girls sitting at the water’s edge have their glasses smashed by some kid and his football ( a rarity thankfully), they didn’t tell staff they just picked up the pieces and swished water over the bits. The top pool has huge steps going into the pool and it goes straight into the deep end.
I would stay here again if it wasn’t in Mykonos, which we didn’t particularly like. Overall a decent hotel.
Friendly Staff & Amazing Views
The George offers the best price you can get while maintaining the scenic views. Having their sister hotel offer free day beds was a huge value add. The daily breakfast buffet was next level. 10/10 we’d stay here again.
Amazing stay at The George Hotel Mykonos
The George Hotel is set just up from it's sister property - Hotel Acrogiali, that is located on the beach. We really enjoyed the view of the sea and the laid back feel of this hotel. The Family room we booked was very large with two rooms and a bathroom and a large patio with loungers. It was clean, had a mini fridge, closet, desk / counter areas and a large bathroom with some basic bath amenities to use. It was a good value which enabled us all to stay together in this 'suite' that still gave everyone enough space. The daily breakfast buffet that was included in the stay was really good and fresh every day. We enjoyed the hot tub and pool deck with loungers for wonderful quiet time with a hint of music from the main bar area. It was great to order beverages/food right from our chairs. It was all served hot, fresh and flavorful. We did utilize the beach loungers at the sister hotel and really enjoyed our time at the Platis Gialos Beach. We appreciated that we could reach out to the hotel ahead of time and arrange for the transfer service to and from the ferry port...that service was also included in our stay. Thank you for the fun stay.
Exceeded our expectations!
We stayed at The George on the last night of our week in Mykonos. It was early May and we knew the season was just beginning and the ocean was probably too cold, but we still wanted to have the experience of at least a night at a beach hotel on the island, and it didn’t disappoint. A few weeks before we arrived, we were a little worried, because we sent a couple of emails and tried calling without getting an answer. However, when we got there, we found out that they had opened for the season just four days prior, and our stay ended up being seamless! We booked a Deluxe room with a sea view, which had a nice little balcony. The hotel is less than a 5-minute walk to the beach, and you can use the chairs and facilities of their sister property, right by the water. It also has a nice pool area, with a bar and a lot of space to lounge. Breakfast was very good - loved the freshly squeezed orange juice. And the staff were very nice and helpful. The hotel even offered us a ride to the ferry after we checked out.
Lovely hotel and staff really friendly
The hotel is very clean and lovely looking.All the staff were friendly and lovely to speak to.location is great 5 min to the restaurants and beach area. The sister hotel on the beach we only used the beds once as they are so close together you can't move and there is no shower after a swim in the sea.Food at this hotel was better than the George Our room was double the balcony looked over the nice view but was very small and we couldn't both sit out comfortably. Hanging things to dry outside - ants were about and got in the towels etc also we had a few inside but not many. Our room was second floor and then another two lots of steps so ask for a lower room if mobility an issue We wouldn't come to Mykonos again but would say the hotel we would. Cons of the hotel was the decking area wear shoes/flip flops as we had splinters in our feet and the music was awful bang bang all the time and very loud .You can sit further away from.the bar thou Also be careful walking around the pool area as it gets slippery There were non slip pads on some steps but on one lot there aren't any and my husband slipped down the steps and got badly bruised we thought it was going to be a hospital trip . Staff were apologetic In the room a nice touch getting a bottle of ron arriving but that was it for the week other places I've stayed at and cheaper than here gave us one everyday which would of been nice.
