Mitsis Family Village

Lovely hotel, overlooking the beautiful sea and mountains. All the staff are very welcoming, friendly and always happy to help. The hotel and facilities are kept clean. Bar and pancake snack bar open and available until 1am which is great as we arrived late so it was nice that we could get a drink and a bite to eat before bed. Free, regular transport provided to and from the beach to avoid walking the hills which helps alot especially when it is hot. There is also a bus service to and from the hotel which will take you into Kardemena Town for €2 each and Kos Town if you want to travel a little further. Pool with 3 great slides for children of all ages just a few minutes walk away. We highly recommend this family village and will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you Canvas by Mitsis!

I have just returned from a 10 day stay at Mitsis Family Village and wanted to give some information that I would have found useful before I visited. Firstly, it is a beautiful hotel. I cannot fault the cleanliness. I don't think I saw 1 piece of litter anywhere, the pool is spotless, rooms cleaned regularly. Check in was quick, the only thing was the local tax ended up being more than we were told . We were expecting to pay 10 euros a night per room (we had 2 rooms) so 200 euros, but when we got there we were charged 15 euros per night per room so it ended up costing us 300 euros. Rooms were large, had plenty of plug points, fridge (ours was not cold but kids room fridgexwas really cold), kettle, tea and coffee making facilities, bathroom had a bath with a shower over it. Plenty of water pressure in the shower and it was a mixer tap so you could choose your temperature. Towels given daily if required, you just left your dirty ones on the floor and they knew to change them. Pool towels were in rooms too, quite large and if you required a new one you could do so. Next the pool. Large pool, never overly busy, bit cold when you first jump in but nice in the intense heat. Sunbeds are stacked up at the sides of the pool each night, so in the mornings you just went to fetch how ever many you wanted and placed them next to the pool. Plenty of umbrellas too, permanently fixed in. If, by any chance you didn't get a sunbed (we got some at 9.30am) there are plenty of tables and chairs around the pool area and undercover in the shade next to the bar. There is also a smaller kids pool just next to the large pool. The 3rd pool with water slides is about a 2 minute walk down the road. It has 2 large slides and 1 smaller childs slide. There is a bar at this pool and a table tennis table but limited sunbeds, tables and chairs, you would need to get to this one early. The main bar is open all day, the pool bar is open from 7pm to 1am. Main restaurant is open for early breakfast (I think 5.30 to 7.30am) then breakfast 7 30 to 10.30, lunch 12.30 to 2.30 and dinner 6.30 to 9.30. There is lots to choose from but not much for picky eaters. Everyday for breakfast there were cereals, boiled eggs, fried eggs, bacon and sausage (but not like we know it) bacon was like spam strips and sausage was either chopped up hot dog or chipolatas. Beans were huge! There were lots of breads you could slice yourself or pre-sliced bread. Toasters were available. Continental breakfasts, pancakes, fruits, yoghurt etc. Then at lunch and dinner the breads and meats were there each day, usually some sort of quiche which had meat and veg in it. Fries Everyday, burgers (no buns) loads of pasta, spaghetti bolognese, usually a meat such as chicken, lamb chops, pork, a beef dish, lots of veg, potatoes (somedays jacket potatoes, roasters with lemon sauce, pureed potatoes). Lots of puddings too, best chocolate cake i have ever tasted! Evening meals had themes each night alongside the above. Tex mex was lovely, Asian night, greek night, Italian night etc. The food is warm, but not hot. Dress code in the main restaurant - it says online 'chic island dress code' i was panicking about what we could wear but once we were there they were very relaxed. There was definitely no swimwear allowed in there but you can wear shorts, vests, denim shorts etc. Ladies did tend to wear nicer dresses in the evening but men pretty much wore anything, including football shorts, so please dont let this worry you. During the day there is a crepe stand from 10am to 1am with sweet and savoury fillings. Ice cream available there too in cones or tubs, big portions too! Down at the beach, there is a bar, a gyros place and a pizza place, all from 10am to 6pm. Thete are lots more down there but we could not use them as they were for the other mitsis hotels. Drinks were plentiful, there was beer, cocktails, shorts with mixers, don't drinks, coffees, hot chocolate and cold chocolate and water. Mostly served in plastic glasses and this made the beer flat. Cocktails were nice but had so much ice in them. Entertainment team tried their best. During the day it was water aerobics, bowling, darts and quizes. Evenings was kids disco at 8.30 then entertainment at 9.30 for approximately 1hr. We had a singer, karaoke, led and fire show, opera singers (not an opera fan but this was my favourite night). My kids also were able to book a tennis court for free which they enjoyed. To get to the beach you can get a golf buggy outside of reception which runs all day every 15 mins or so. Same to get back as its quite a hill to get back up. Can walk it in about 5 mins. There is a 'club zone ' i had read about in reviews as being amazing but we went a few times and it was empty, tiny and you do have to pay for your drinks there (about 6 euros for a bottle of beer) although if you like your sports they do play football games in there. The hotel placement is in a beautiful spot but it is about an hour walk to kardemena. You need drinks if its hot as the first bar after the hotel is about 35/40mins walk away, then there is another after about 10 mins and the last one is as you enter kardemena. All lovely bars. Malibu beach bar has a pool you can use ( which we needed in the heat) and a crazy golf course (old and tired but fun). There are regular buses from the hotel to Kardemena for 2 euros each. The bus stop is just outside reception and to get back from kardemena you catch the bus over the road from where you got off the bus. Also there is a direct bus to kos town from the hotel for 4.60 which takes about 50 mins. Catch the bus back at the same place you got off. The 3 island boat trip is amazing, you can book it in Kardemena with a hotel pick-up to Kos harbour for 35 euros. On the boat at 10am, visit 3 islands, bbq lunch, back at 5pm and transfer back to hotel. All in all this hotel is not for thrill seekers, it is very relaxed, not a lot to do around there. I absolutely loved it but my husband and kids needed more to do. I would definitely return. Also never saw 1 mosquito or cockroach the entire 10 days I was there. There are the biggest hornets and dragon flies I have ever seen though! Hope someone finds this helpful as its everything I would have wanted to know before going.
