Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We have just returned from the most incredible 7-day stay at Mitsis Blue Domes, and once again, Mitsis has reminded us exactly why we keep coming back year after year.
Our story with Mitsis started back in 2015, and since then it has become so much more than simply choosing a hotel for our holidays. We stayed at Blue Domes in 2015 and 2021, and we are also regular guests at Mitsis Alila, which is equally amazing and somewhere we highly recommend. In recent years, we have found ourselves returning to Mitsis several times throughout the year because, quite simply, no one does hospitality quite like Mitsis.
What makes Blue Domes so special is, without question, the people.
The hotel is wonderfully led by Sebastian, together with his right-hand man Evangelos, who make sure everything runs seamlessly. You can see their leadership reflected throughout the entire team and in the way the hotel embodies the Mitsis philosophy.
Mitsis says “Create your own story”, and its core values of Empathy, Adaptability and Surprise are about genuine Greek family hospitality, understanding each guest’s individual needs and going beyond expectations through exceptional service and attention to the smallest details.
At Blue Domes, these aren’t simply words — you actually experience them.
And then there is the incredible team: Angelos, Dimitry, Klevisa, Christos, Nikos, and so many others whose names we unfortunately cannot list individually. You are all absolute stars. ⭐️
Nothing is ever too much trouble for this A-Team. What really makes the experience exceptional is how quickly they get to know you. Within just a few days, they remember what you like, what you drink and all those little preferences that make a holiday personal. Before you even need to ask, it appears!
That level of attention to detail is what turns excellent service into something truly special.
Our room was lovely, and this time we chose a swim-up room, which was absolutely perfect for us. Our little one is now 5 and very eager to learn how to swim “professionally”! 😂🏊♂️ The swim-up room made the holiday so much fun and is something we would definitely recommend to families travelling with children.
We were also incredibly lucky during this stay to meet Mrs Mitsis. She was such a lovely, warm lady to speak with, and it was genuinely special to meet a member of the family behind such a successful family-run Greek hospitality business.
Perhaps that family element is exactly what keeps bringing us back.
After more than a decade of staying with Mitsis, we can genuinely see that the values of the Mitsis family are carried through the hotels and, most importantly, through the people who work there. There is warmth, care and a genuine desire to make every guest feel special.
You don’t simply feel like another room number.
You feel remembered. You feel looked after. You feel welcomed back.
And that is why, after all these years and so many Mitsis holidays, we continue to return.
To Sebastian, Evangelos, Angelos, Dimitry, Klevisa, Christos, Nikos and the entire Blue Domes team — a huge THANK YOU from all of us. 🙏🏽❤️
Please never change. You are all amazing, and you should be incredibly proud of the experience you create for your guests.
Our next stay is already being planned for May, and we genuinely cannot wait to see everyone again.
Until next time, Blue Domes… ❤️🇬🇷
Another beautiful chapter in our Mitsis story — and definitely not the last.
I was left very disappointed with Blue Domes. The promotional photos simply do not reflect the reality of what you actually get.
The rooms are tired, poorly finished and, in my opinion, would struggle to justify a 4-star resort rating, let alone the 5-star experience being advertised. The furnishings felt cheap and dated, almost as if they had been sourced from an IKEA clearance section.
Our original room was so poor that we requested to move. It took 48 hours for this to happen and, while the second room was larger, it wasn't any better maintained. The shower barely produced more than a dribble of water, and the attachment holding the shower head to the rail broke on first use. Despite housekeeping attending daily, this was ignored for the remaining five days of our stay. I would not be surprised if it is still broken now.
One thing that became very noticeable during our stay was how much effort seemed to be put into arrival day. When we arrived on Thursday, the restaurant was well stocked and the ice cream parlour had over 10 flavours available. As the week progressed, standards steadily declined. By Wednesday, the ice cream parlour was down to just two flavours. Interestingly, on the Thursday we departed, everything was suddenly fully stocked again and back to looking as it had on arrival day.
The main restaurant served largely the same food every day. Even on the advertised "Italian" evening, the only noticeable difference was an additional pasta dish, with the rest of the offering remaining virtually unchanged. The fruit was often served warm, and there were frequently flies around the dining area. There is also a fresh fruit and juice bar available until lunchtime, with prepared fruit pots in the fridges. Unfortunately, the juice dispensers often looked dirty, and the juice itself appeared stagnant and unappetising.
Another major issue was the sheer number of guests. The resort appears to pack families in to capacity, resulting in a daily battle to find a sunbed around any of the pools. Unless you were out extremely early, finding somewhere to sit was difficult and frustrating. To make matters worse, most days by lunchtime there were no clean pool towels available, and the towel stations were often left unattended with nobody available to help.
The resort's condition was summed up perfectly on our final day when I saw a member of staff attempting to repair a broken sunbed using glue, a hammer and nails. While I appreciate staff trying to make repairs, it highlighted the overall state of the resort and reinforced the feeling that this was nowhere near the standard expected of a 5-star hotel.
Restaurant reservations were also impossible to secure once on site. Fortunately, we had booked ours in advance. Even then, our experience at the South American restaurant was poor, with the wrong drinks and dishes brought to our table four times within 30 minutes, despite there being only a handful of occupied tables.
The water park on the hill was another concern. While the slides themselves are good, there appeared to be little or no supervision. During our visit there were no lifeguards or staff actively monitoring slide usage, and we witnessed adults and children climbing back up the slides, creating multiple near misses. Given the potential for serious injury, this felt highly unsafe and something that should be addressed urgently.
The kids' club was equally disappointing. The area itself was clean and the staff were friendly, but there seemed to be very little interaction or engagement with the children. I stayed with my child during one session and ended up organising games involving several children myself, while the staff largely stood and watched. That is not what I would expect from a resort promoting itself as a premium family destination.
The final disappointment came on departure day. We booked a shower room for 30 minutes before leaving and were given a room key, only to discover the room was a 10-minute walk away. After getting a lift on a buggy, we arrived to find flooded floors, piles of dirty towels, used cups and overflowing bins. It was completely unacceptable and a fittingly poor end to an already disappointing stay.
On a positive note, the resort was generally clean and the pools themselves appeared well maintained. The staff were also generally pleasant. Unfortunately, those are the only positives I can genuinely highlight.
Overall, Blue Domes fell well below expectations. The marketing promises far more than the resort delivers. For the price paid, I expected a much higher standard of accommodation, food quality, service, maintenance and guest experience.
A huge disappointment and, unfortunately, not somewhere I would return to or recommend.
We are currently in the hotel with 2 days left of our holiday. The staff are brilliant. Our daughter fractured her ankle before our holiday and everyone here is always on hand to help us navigate around the resort with her in her fracture boot. We have had lifts in the golf carts everywhere, a wheel chair available when needed and accessible tables during meal times to help her access the buffet easily.
The service at each of the food outlets is great. There is sometimes a wait for burgers and crepes but it isn’t long and it’s because everything is cooked to order. Drinks orders are taken from the pool area and brought to your sunbeds by more friendly and reliable staff.
The resort is clean and tidy and staff are always clearing tables, rubbish, tending the garden areas and rooms are cleaned daily to an excellent standard.
The atmosphere around the hotel is a chilled one. Quiet background music plays at the bar and no pushy staff trying to sell anything or get you to join in with activities (there are plenty if you want to join in though) the entertainment at night is good. Singers in the bar at night and a nightly show in the theatre. We have only been once due to having restaurant bookings most nights.
Service and food in the à la carte restaurants is also great. Book before you come though (download the app) as spaces book up in advance.
We’re on day four of our week’s holiday here…and as I’m sat by the pool in the glorious sunshine I thought I’d write an honest review….
Overall
We first visited last year and had a wonderful week in June…the set up is perfect for us and our young family (two boys aged 3 and 5)…it just made sense to come back again this year and we’ve not been disappointed…we’re already talking about booking for next year!
A la Carte Restaurants
Book in advance!!!! This isn’t something they make you aware of and they really should to prevent disappointment when you arrive. I booked online in April (via the app) and we’ve managed to get reservations at every restaurant.
The ‘Destination’ restaurants, Greek and South American, disappointed us. We dined here for our first two evenings. The setting for both restaurants is beautiful. Truly ‘instagramable’…but they are style over substance. The food was average and the service was honestly poor. In the South American restaurant we were forgotten about. It took 30 minutes to have our drinks order taken, the staff were more concerned about cleaning down the restaurant for the night and when our main courses hadn’t even arrived we were asked if we wanted dessert.
The morning after our dinner here we received the ‘check in’ email from guest relations to see how our stay was going and I did make them aware of this.
The à la carte restaurants down by the beach have been exceptionally good. The service and the food is truly five star and we’ve had some wonderful evening meals here. I can’t recommend these enough. Today we’re going to the Italian for lunch and we have the Asian booked for later in the week. Last night the Greek was fabulous and the Tex Mex was incredible…we were blown away with the food and the service.
Buffet
What a selection!
Breakfast, lunch or dinner…there is something to please everyone! Yes they are busy but the staff work extremely hard to make sure everyone has drinks and the food is constantly replenished!
Grab and Go Stations
The absolute jewels in the Blue Domes crown! These are fantastic!
We stayed at an Ikos hotel in May and we missed this option when it comes to food. The beach gyros are fabulous, the burgers are insane, the fruit and smoothies are delicious and the ‘Sweet Corner’ is dangerous!!!!! The ‘Sweet Corner’ is the perfect holiday treat! Eva has been incredibly kind to our boys and she is someone we’ll remember fondly from our stay! The ice creams, the waffles, the pancakes and the cakes are all delicious! We’ve visited every evening after our dinner and it’s been the perfect end to our day!
Pools and Sunbeds
As we’ve got a bungalow with the shared pool we’ve stayed here every day. However we’ve also done the ‘10 pool challenge’ and we’ve made sure we’ve been in every single pool! They are all amazing and there is plenty of space for everyone!
Sunbeds are reserved from 6am…there’s no policing of it…so if you can’t beat them…join them! We’ve put our towels out at around 8am and to be fair everyone is sat on beds…they are not reserving for the sake of it…and when we went down to the beach bar the other day there were plenty of available beds at midday…
Water Slides
If you leave the hotel by the exit at the back of the Sweet Corner you can reach the water slides that are shared between this hotel and the other Mitsis hotels.
These have been well received by our eldest! He’s been desperate to go to a water park and these have scratched the itch and saved us!!
There is a bar there which you can use but we simply used the slides…which are extremely fast!!! And are great fun!!
Room
Our room is perfect for us. We’re by the shared pool and it works well that we can sit on the terrace whilst the boys play in the room…it is compact and smaller than the bungalow garden room we had last year but for us we’d prefer to have the pool outside our door. We’ve a bath and a separate shower…both great…and lots of storage space…the mini bar has been restocked each day and I nip to the supermarket near the beach to get snacks and diet cans to keep us going! (Not that we really need it!)
Gym
To balance out all the ice cream and cocktails I do go to the gym each morning…officially it opens at 8am but everyone uses it much earlier which is great as it means I can do my workout and be back at the room just as my husband and the boys are waking up! It’s got everything you need for both weights and cardio…and it seems to be popular!
Staff
Overall the staff are brilliant…they can’t do enough to help you and we’ve been very impressed! Last night my son left his backpack in the restaurant toilets and the general manager made sure it was returned to us that evening. Today my little one stood on a wasp and the lifeguard was brilliant in helping him and administering first aid!
We did give feedback about some elements of the service we’d experienced and they replied to say it’s been acknowledged and addressed. We know the hotel is busy and we know they are doing their best.
Sickness
I’ve got to address it…all the posts on here from the past weeks did fill me with dread…but we’ve had/seen/heard of ZERO sickness (touch wood)!!! Sanitizer is everywhere…the hotel is clean…our room is immaculate…
Here’s to the rest of our stay…and I’m sure and truly hope we do come back 🥰🩵
It is very peaceful here, beautiful, gorgeous hotel. The complex is very clean, there are recycling bins everywhere. The staff are lovely and friendly. The pools are stunning but if you want sunbeds the time is between 6.45am & 7.15am. There are so many pools and areas to sunbathe. The beach is great too, there are water activities and a giant inflatable too. The room is great for 3 adults, it is huge and it accommodated our needs. We had our mini fridge filled up daily, fresh towels and linen. Two showers and a bath. The restaurants are fantastic, The sweet corner, American snack bar, Greek Bar, Healthy corner, are all amazing. They cater for all ages and dietary times here. We have been to all the restaurants on this complex. All i can say is that they are all amazing.
