Mitsis Blue Domes Resort and Spa

We’re 2 night in to a 7 night stay and I just wanted to document our initial thoughts as I had read a number of reviews pre and post booking. We’ve stayed at a number of all inclusives in the last few years, Ikos, Rixos and Grecotel Luxme and these are our initial thoughts.

Rooms Generally really good. The rooms are clean, good minibar, good facilities, a little dated in areas but aren’t we all.

Pools We’ve not seen the mad dash for sun beds as other reviewers claim, we went for breakfast this morning then went to get some beds and there were a lot available even right next to the pool. We’re the last week of August but it is still busy.

Bars Pool side service seems to be very non existent however I did get 1 drink today. I generally think people don’t mind either way if they know but it’s not obvious whether it is or isn’t, on the outset I would say don’t expect pool side service as you’d be waiting a long time. The main pool bar is very busy and you can wait 10+ minutes for a drink. The garden pool bar was empty all day today so it’s partly where you go. The main pool bar serves 7+ pools where the garden pool generally serves 1. The beer and wine selection could be a bit better, the website would suggest you have a choice of wine, ultimately you don’t and there is only 1 beer but it’s actually okay.

Family friendly I would say the resort would suit children 6+. We have a 4 year old and a 10 week old. The pools are all 1m+ which is not great for our 4 year old as they are just a bit too deep as she’s just got rid of the armbands. None of the pools are heated which is fine in August but a bit too cold for our youngest. There are also a lot of steps! Ty is obviously not a fault of the resort but it is a long way round with a buggy and some routes we haven’t found the step free route so have just carried the pram up the steps.

Food Probably the most important thing for us at an all inclusive. So far it’s been a story of 2 halves. The à la carte restaurants and grab and gos have been great although they should not call it grab and go as there is a bit of a wait. The healthy corner is fantastic! Zero wait and lovely stuff. The buffet is meh! Although all the other food has been really good, the breakfast buffet this morning has been one of the worst selections we’ve come across worse that anywhere else we have visited in the last few years. The quality isn’t bad but just a bit limited, i think you’d get just as much at a premier inn.

General service and cleanliness Service has generally been okay but the overall resort just need a bit of tidy. It’s been particularly windy the last 2 days so it may be something to do with it as everything is blowing everywhere but it just feels a bit untidy and that it’s someone else’s job as there just seems to be a lot of litter that the staff seem to walk past and then I end up picking it up before it gets blown away.

Overall summary I would say it’s really price per £/€. Ikos is amazing and we always compare everything to that which is always tough ‘, it’s like experiencing first business class then flying economy. On an Ikos scale I would say Mitsis Blue Domes is 7/10 however the same week for a similar room I the Ikos on Kos is 3 times the price. Is ikos 3 times as good?! The answer to that is no however I feel that the breakfast options need to be improved. For a place that is meant to be foody the breakfast really lets this place down as the breakfast is far worse than Rixos and Grecotel despite us rating the overall experience better. We have the brunch place bfor tomorrow morning but although we booked over a month ago the only time slot we could get was 08:30 and when keeping out girls on uk time this is 06:30. The generally litter everywhere cannot be excused, I get that people are partly the problem and it is windy but surely you should be more on it to avoid everything ending up in the pool.

If you’ve only ever experienced a one buffet restaurant all inclusive then you will be really blown away. If you’ve turned left at the all inclusive options then it may fall short but we keep reminding ourselves that it’s a 3rd of the price.

I hope this review helps. Would we rather go to Ikos, yes absolutely. Would we hold off coming on holiday for another year to save up for Ikos?! We’ll see at the end of the week.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel, with excellent food and a fantastic atmosphere throughout. During our visit, we spent several evenings at the Zone Disco Bar, where we enjoyed the music, drinks, shisha, and lively atmosphere.

A special mention must go to Dimitri and Anouk, who were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. They went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience, including putting the Newcastle football matches on for us on two occasions. We also called ahead to ask if they could show the boxing, and they were more than happy to accommodate our request.

The service and hospitality we received really made our experience even more enjoyable. If you are staying at the hotel, we would highly recommend visiting the Zone Disco Bar. It is a great place to relax, enjoy some entertainment, and have a fantastic evening.
