Ok so without doubt this is a luxury hotel but I can’t believe how they treated me. I was travelling solo and arrived at the hotel about 2pm so very tired after getting up at 5am to get my flight that morning . I was struggling with my big case as I had a painful shoulder but was so relieved to finally arrive. The reception staff greeted me and asked for my passport as is the norm however they then said that there was a problem with my room ( didn’t really explain what kind of problem) she was vague it was technical or mechanical and then said that they had arranged for me to stay at a hotel down the road for one night and I could come back after breakfast! I was very upset and said surely you have a different room here but I was told they were all taken and before I could take it all in she called a cab for me to be taken to the other hotel and gave the driver 9 euros for his fare. So I found myself at the Mediterranean Hotel in a dingy room overlooking a car park . I had to struggle to find things in my case for just one night as no one wants to unpack to have to put everything away again . The frustration and upset over this meant that I just ended up going to bed at 8pm . In the morning I had a breakfast there ( really poor , eggs were cold ) then asked them to get me a taxi back , arriving around 10am so trying to keep my cool I was once again at the reception and asked for my room keys to be told that it wasn’t ready and to take a seat ! After 15 to 20minutes I asked again and I was told it could take until 12pm but I should just go and sit by the pool and wait . I then started to get angry it was boiling hot and all my clothes were still in my case but this woman was just unmoving and had no customer service skills at all she just kept repeating the same information so I asked to speak to her manager . I was then told there was no manager in the hotel but if I wanted I could email him. Omg I couldn’t believe this was how I was being treated at this luxury hotel. I said maybe you can email them and get them to call me but she refused. I asked for some kind of compensation bearing in mind a night at this place was around £245 but all I was offered was a complimentary lunch Absolutely disgusting treatment for a guest . I managed to get hold of an Easy Jet helpline and they said they would email but to date the manager has not bothered to answer them . Be warned do not go to this hotel they do not care and have no onsite managers although I don’t believe that for a moment, I also think they double booked my room and as a single woman thought I would make the least fuss . I will Never come back here
Wonderful holiday in the beautiful Thalassa Boutique hotel. Ideal location with a 10 minute walk to the restaurants, bars and hotels A 15 minute bus ride to the capital Argostoli is where you can pick up the boat trips or walk along the promenade. Cute little beach is a 5 minute walk away, but there are larger beaches close by which are easy to get to. The pool area is clean, modern with plenty of beds available. Nice ambient background music helped with the relaxed vibe. Rooms are spacious with a fabulous large walk in shower. The beds are very comfortable aswell. The breakfast is a 10/10, and i loved the thyme honey and filo pastry mushroom pie... absolutely delicious. There is large building works at the front of the hotel but it does not impede on the hotel stay whatsoever. We thoroughly enjoyed our much needed break away from reality in this lovely hotel. Highly recommend
First of all the positives. The hotel has a great pool area with lovely comfortable day beds with cushions. The pool bar staff were really friendly and efficient. The bar service to your day beds was a real bonus. Two nice pools as well. Lots of choice for breakfast with friendly efficient waiting staff. The restaurant at the pool area served very nice meals at lunchtime. We also ate there on the night once and the food and service were exceptional. The bar lounge at the front of the hotel had lovely sea views with nice background music. The one negative was the room we stayed in. It was a superior room in a block of 12 rooms at the rear of the hotel grounds. Room numbers beginning with 100. It is classed as superior but there aren’t any rooms at a lower price point and IMO it wasn’t superior!! The bedroom area was very spacious with great air conditioning, plenty of storage space and a really comfortable bed, it had a kitchenette which was superfluous. The balcony wasn’t very private. However, our biggest gripe was the en-suite. Not only was it small but there was virtually no shelving etc to put things, and on top of that it only had a hand held shower. (No comparison to the one photo on the hotel website of the ‘superior’ en suite, which is tiled and looks recently renovated) According to reception most of the superior rooms only have hand held showers. For a boutique hotel, charging a premium price, not to have overhead showers in every room was very disappointing. We paid £420 extra for a limited sea view room. The rooms in this block at the rear have a nice view of the pool and garden but the actual sea view is very limited, (definitely not amazing as described on the hotel website) and certainly not worth the extra we paid. In fact the rooms in this block seem to have been neglected. Room numbers not visible, rust on banisters, paint peeling of walls etc. On a side issue, we are regular visitors to Lassi and we were disappointed to find that two of the bars had become really loud. So simple and in particular Trentis bar after 11pm, when you could hear the noise all the way back to our hotel which was over 5 minutes walk away. Despite the negatives in relation to our room, OVERALL The Thalassa is a great choice for a quiet adults only holiday, with excellent staff, reasonable prices and pleasant areas to relax, both during the day and on a night.
This hotel is much, much better than number 27 of all hotels. Finding it is a challenge; poor signage from the main road and then there is the construction of an enormous place ( same owner as Thalassa) between the hotel and the sea. Fortunately, Thalassa rises well above it so the view remains. The pool area and bar are behind the hotel so no seaview from there, but it is beautiful with quality loungers and many partially shaded places to protect you from the hot sun. There are various room types, and the hotel descriptions on their website differ from how the likes of Easyjet describe them. Best and priciest are full seaview like no 622. Good breakfast and the Greek noght on a Monday is well worth going to. Many good restaurants up an main street , a ten minute walk ( uphill) away. My only real complaint is communication. The booking is centralised and you cannot email the hotel directly. My 2 emails to the centralised location went unanswered. Very poor. Would we return? Absolutely. Kefalonia is a lovely island and Thalassa does it proud.
My husband and I went to Kefalonia as a part of a two island holiday, primarily as a homage to my parents who sadly passed away not that long ago. There favourite holiday destinations were Kefalonia and Zakynthos. We choose the Thalassa mainly based on appearance, reviews and being adult only. Having read the many reviews on the Thalassa there are a number of points that we would agree, the noise of the aircraft overhead this can sadly spoil the quietness and ambience of the hotel and it's surroundings particularly when relaxing during the day when at the pool. We think people should be aware of this before booking. The second point would be regarding the number of cats within the hotel complex, personally it doesn't bother us but for people who don't like cats or have phobias or allergies they maybe troublesome. Again this may apply to Simba the hotel dog, though to be honest he is gorgeous! The final issue is the extensive building of a new 5 star hotel complex right in front of the Thalassa, also owned by the same owners. Though the hotel which is set down slightly to the Thalassa will not obscure any view. Again noise maybe an issue for the coming year. Location wise you can walk from the hotel to Lassi where you will find a large number of eateries, bars, supermarkets and vehicle rental outlets. About the hotel specifically, the staff could not be more friendly and welcoming, particular mention to Carla on reception, Silvana and Loretta serving at breakfast. It was an absolute pleasure to meet these ladies! Breakfast was a standout during our stay, great choice and selection of produce to cater for all. The planting and garden are impressive, planting for impact, colour and fragrance. A highlight for any garden lover! We had book a swim up room which initially seemed impressive, room 304 however lacked privacy and sun in the afternoons, as a result we sadly didn't spend as much time there as we would have wanted. From a negative point there are areas where the hotel is becoming tired, it's decor, soft furnishings and furniture. We hope though that the owners will perhaps consider giving the Thalassa a refresh once the new hotel is completed, otherwise it may appear to be the poor relation. In summary we met and spoke with many people during our weeks stay, many seem to go back time and time again, we can partly see why but for us, the world is a big place to explore..... Highlights though are the exceptional staff, gardens, breakfast and location though a car would be beneficial, room always clean and tidy.
