Renieris Hotel

We have just returned from staying at Hotel Renieris, and it was absolutely brilliant.

It is quite a small hotel, which is exactly what we were looking for, so it was very relaxing. The view from the pool across Kato Stalos is amazing, and the hotel is perfectly positioned to enjoy the sunset in the evening.

Due to the elevated position of the hotel, the steps to the main road can certainly be tiring, especially on the way back up! If you are being dropped off at the hotel by a large coach, it is worth noting that you will be dropped off at the bottom of these steps. However, the hotel owner, George, very kindly transferred us for both our drop-off and pick-up.

George could not do enough for us, which can also be said about all of the staff who work at the hotel. Sadly, I did not get any of the other staff members' names.

As well as working on reception, cooking in the kitchen and taxiing people around, George also fixed our air conditioning and assisted us with booking a car. I don't think I have ever seen anyone do as many jobs at once! As mentioned, he couldn't do enough for the guests at the hotel.

There is a small bar and restaurant next to the pool, which is where breakfast is served. Breakfast was lovely, with all the usual continental options. They also serve food throughout the day, which we had numerous times and really enjoyed.

The hotel is in a great location, between Chania in one direction and Agia Marina and Platanias in the other. It is very easy to get around by bus or taxi.

We found the hotel to be absolutely immaculate, which is a credit to the whole team. As a guest at the hotel, you really feel valued by the staff, which can't always be said about large chain hotels.

If we ever return to the Chania area, we will be sure to stay at Hotel Renieris again.

We had the loveliest stay at The Renieris Hotel in Stalos, Crete, and honestly, I couldn’t fault it in any way.

This beautiful, family-run hotel has just 24 rooms, which creates such a peaceful and personal atmosphere. You get to enjoy all the facilities without the crowds, noise or dreaded sun-lounger and towel wars!

It’s easy to see from the reviews why so many guests return to Renieris time and time again. The exceptional care, friendliness, cleanliness, attention to detail and immaculate maintenance of the hotel really do make it something special.

We had two sea-view rooms, and they certainly didn’t disappoint. Waking up each morning to the beautiful view of the ocean was incredible. Enjoying the delicious buffet breakfast on the restaurant terrace, overlooking Stalos and Agia Marina beach, was peaceful, relaxing and genuinely good for the soul.

The staff work tirelessly to make sure every guest feels welcomed, looked after and special. Nothing ever seemed like too much effort, and everyone was consistently friendly, polite and smiling. The family speak several languages, which made communication effortless, and their warmth and hospitality really stood out throughout our stay.

The terrace restaurant beside the pool served delicious food with a great choice of options to suit everyone. We enjoyed both lunch and dinner there several times and were always made to feel so welcome. At dinner, we were treated to a complimentary dessert and a local drink, which was such a lovely touch.

My son is gluten-free. We mentioned this just once, and the staff remembered throughout our stay. Whenever the complimentary dessert was served, they would thoughtfully bring him an ice cream so he could enjoy the treat with the rest of us. It was a small gesture, but it really showed the level of care and attention to detail that runs through the whole hotel.

The pool area is beautiful, nestled amongst lush green grass and palm trees, with a children’s pool attached. There were always plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas available, so there was never any need to rush down early to claim a spot. The pool toilets were also exceptionally clean and modern.

The reception area was another lovely space, with books available to borrow and plenty of useful information about local trips, activities and car hire. Everything had been thought of, and there genuinely wasn’t anything we felt was missing.

What impressed us most was how smoothly and efficiently the hotel is run as a family team, with several generations working together. You can feel the pride they have in their hotel and in looking after their guests.

The Renieris Hotel isn’t just somewhere to stay — it feels like somewhere you are genuinely cared for. Beautiful surroundings, wonderful food, exceptional cleanliness and, above all, the most welcoming and hardworking family and staff.

We left feeling completely relaxed, looked after and very sad to leave. We would absolutely return and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Renieris to anyone looking for a peaceful, beautiful and genuinely special stay in Crete.

I'm not sure where to start with this review, as I'd usually begin with the negatives, but I'm honestly struggling to find any.

The only minor draw back may be the steps, all 98 of them, so if you're walking out & about, just be aware that it's a bit of a climb, but my word, the views at the top are worth every bead of sweat to get there, and the hotel is incredible.

Rooms are immaculately clean, and very well appointed, with a great overhead shower in a wet-room.

The beds are ridiculously comfortable, and rooms are cleaned every day, with the cleaning teams seemingly having ninja skills, enabling them to get in and out whilst you're eating breakfast.

Food is great, with a good selection of hot options for breakfast, along with some amazing, freshly made cakes & pastries. There's also a ground coffee station, as well as ready to go coffee, and fruit juices.

As a family, we drink lots of bottled water, and expected to be buying it non-stop, but, the hotel promote refilling your bottle for free, with filtered water from a cooler to cut down on plastic waste.

The pool bar offers a great selection for lunch, and dinner, if you fancy staying at the hotel instead of going out, and the menu is very reasonably priced.

The pool area is always beautifully maintained, with plenty of comfortable beds & chairs, and the views from here (especially the sunsets) are simply stunning.

After an amazing week, we had a late flight home, so an 11 am checkout, and the use of immaculate shower rooms before our flight, were most welcome.

Above all though, the Reneiris offers genuine care with everything they do.

Every member of the team goes about their day with a smile, and a desire to make your holiday the best it can be.

We've never considered extending a stay before, and due to full occupancy, it wasn't possible, but if the Renieris had had availability, we'd still be there now.

If you're lucky enough to have found this hotel whilst searching for a holiday to Crete, and want somewhere away from the crowds, but close enough to a multitude of fabulous restaurants, small shops, and mini-markets, make sure you book before it sells out.
