Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Hotel is good but not a 4 star. Pros - room was clean, nice size pool, and on beach
Cons - mid tier hotel, breakfast was okay, coffee was ok - not great. They say they pull towels from lounges at 45 minutes if no one is there but we witnessed several lounges where people left their bags and shoes for hours with no one using it.
Bonvoy status - upgrade consisted of balcony overlooking pool but room size was small. The staff were friendly.
If you’re from the US, this area is like Virginia beach or Ocean City MD, not desirable.
This was are second time staying at this hotel as we love it so much . The rooms are immaculate cleaned twice a day The staff are so lovely nothing is to much trouble for them Breakfast is very good all freshly prepared eggs made to order . The staff are so helpful friszel is a little ray of sunshine she greets you every morning with a smile and the lovely msiya who I remember from last year. We will definitely be booking again for next year
I am so glad I chose this hotel for my first stay in Crete.
George, the manager, came to greet us on our very first day and ensured our stay was truly comfortable.
When my daughter was suffering from a painful sunburn and the pharmacy-prescribed treatment wasn't helping, Nadije from the hotel brought us some fresh aloe vera; thanks to that, she began to recover. She was super kind every time.
The rest of the staff also showed wonderful hospitality. I am especially grateful to George; when we realized on our last day that we had forgotten to book a taxi to the airport, he immediately arranged a large vehicle for us, allowing us to travel to the airport in comfort and without stress.
Finally, I am worried about the fires currently affecting Crete. I sincerely hope that everyone at the hotel stays safe.
We went for a week for a nice, relaxing holiday and booked B&B, and that was the experience we received (and more)! Upon arrival, we were greeted with smiles and very helpful staff, even carrying our luggages to our room. We were also surprised to receive a free room upgrade, which definitely elevated our experience a bit.
The premium queen room was very clean with air conditioning and a ceiling fan and a balcony overlooking the pool and sea. There are two pools and direct access to the beach, with sunbeds free for hotel guests and fresh towels provided. Housekeeping did a wonderful job with cleaning the room and replenishing water bottles daily. Food was great at the Sealai restaurant and we ate there a few nights during our stay. If you get the tables closer to the beachfront, you will have an amazing view of the famous Greek sunsets.
What really made our stay even better and unforgettable was the staff, with a few notable standouts. Nadja was immensely helpful with helping plan our trip to Heraklion and the surrounding areas as well as giving great recommendations for car hires and local places to eat. Frances at reception was so cheerful, hospitable and helpful whenever we had any queries regarding our room or stay. Massive shoutouts to Briken at the poolside bar, and especially to Don. He was a joy to be around, always asking if we needed anything and very accommodating with requests as well as being a great person to talk to.
It's same to say that we will definitely be visiting Alai again should we go back to Crete for another holiday!
Had a simply perfect stay at the Alai, we were a group of 4 friends and we all loved our time at this fabulous hotel. Really comfy sunbeds on the private beach and around the pools, beach towels provided. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, delicious breakfast with eggs made to order, air conditioned rooms with comfortable beds, all the staff were so lovely and helpful, thank you to Nadia who arranged a taxi to Mochos and booked us a fabulous front seat table at the restaurant for the Greek night, so lovely of her to do this for us. Loads of bars and restaurants nearby. Lots of subtle little touches made this such a lovely holiday that we have booked again for next year !
