The picturesque natural harbour of Sissi, is less than 100 meters from the hotel. The tourist resorts of Hersonissos and Malia with their archaeological sites are to the west of the hotel, while to the east guests will find another popular resort, Agios Nikolaos. The establishment consists of 9 traditional buildings scattered across beautifully manicured gardens. In this wonderful setting of green lawns accented by picturesque arrangements of shrubbery, guests can enjoy all the beauties of nature. Visitors can take a refreshing dip in the large outdoor pool, surrounded by lounge chairs ready to welcome sunbathers. After a day of aquatic fun, guests can enjoy a night of lively entertainment. The hotel regularly hosts Greek nights with folk dancing. Guests are invited to dine on the terrace where they can choose from international, Greek and Cretan cuisine.
Pamper yourself with a visit to the spa, which offers massages. You're sure to appreciate the recreational amenities, including an outdoor pool and a sauna. Additional amenities at this hotel include complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services and wedding services.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We stayed for 14 nights in September and had a fabulous holiday! We were in room 710 overlooking the smaller pool. Breakfast and dinner were great - the staff very attentive. Sissi has a beautiful harbour just a few minutes walk from the Maritimo and if you go right across to the other side of the harbour (10 mins walk) there are lovely bars/restaurants. We went to The Cactus Pub a few times and watched the amazing sunset 🌅 from there. We also went to local bars (Peggy Gordon’s, Juniper, Anixi) all just 5 mins walk away. I also had a great manicure and pedicure from Muse - (next to Peggy Gordon’s) - the young lady in there did a fabulous job! The Maritimo’s Spa is lovely (Sofia and Vicky) and my husband had a great massage there. The only negative I can find at all is that there is no rail at all to aid getting into the smaller, quieter pool, which is such a shame if you have any mobility issues at all. We had to go across to the bigger pool if we wanted a dip! The beach in front of the hotel is all rocks but is amazing to watch. People do swim in the harbour though and I believe there are sandy beaches nearby. We also went on George’s Fun Train which was great. All in all, the Maritimo Beach Hotel and Sissi gave us a great holiday.
We have been to Crete a number of times over the years, and this is a nice hotel, great location in a very nice little village location..... with a few tweaks could be a really fantastic place, the main negative for us was the bathroom, very small, needed an extractor fan of some description and could have done with a good deep clean and tile grout being renewed, the shower/bath mixer nearly had to broken off to get it to move! Other than that, it was a comfortable and spacious room (807), small conveniences like having somewhere to hang wet towels/swimming bits on the balcony would have been handy, but again, it's just those small details that could make it an even better experience. The rooms are also not very well sound proofed, so you can hear pretty much everything from the adjoining rooms, including conversations, which wasn't ideal, as our room was surrounded on all sides!
I found the food to be very good, the salads and main dishes for me as a vegetarian were plentiful and varied each day, my wife found some of the meat in the mains to be overdone and chewy on a few of the nights, which was a shame, the deserts were standard hotel fair, just ok, but the little additions like baklava on the odd nights were very nice!
Staff were all very nice, friendly and helpful and overall the hotel was spotless in the communal areas, and rooms were given a once over everyday, with towels being changed as and when you wanted them to be (by leaving them in the bath tub).
Overall, we would stay here again, although next time, maybe only for a few days as part of a bigger visit to the island.
Ended my holiday in the Aegeo Spa at the Maritimo (Sissi) as a visitor.
Enjoyed a fabulous 70minute Cretan full body massage, expertly carried out by the therapist ‘Shima’.
Would highly recommend this Spa.

This hotel is like a little piece of paradise. Nothing flashy all the basics you require for a fantastic holiday. Staff are wonderful friendly people always happy to help and always smiling. My room was spot on, first time ever I have paid extra for a Seaview (we are tight in Yorkshire). It won't be my last. It had its own little garden with sunbeds. I was over the moon with it. The room itself was spacious, enough wardrobe space and no breaking my neck over the suitcases. Shower was ok if you played with it and get the knack of it. Trial and error. At the end of the day you go on holiday to explore not sit and stare at the blinking room. Air conditioning was like the artic on every setting but it didn't bother us. Safes are behind reception, a bit annoying so didn't bother. The food is nothing to write home about it's your usual buffet food. Something for everyone. Your not going to starve.The area is so peaceful and quiet. The pool is a good size plenty of sunbeds. The gardens are gorgeous.The location is surrounded by a handful of posh 5* hotels. Two supermarkets bypass the one at top of street turn right 2 minute walk and supermarket half the price. Just a little walk (I have mobility issues) takes you to the bay and the little village of Sissi with a handful of shops and amazing restaurants. Big shout out for the Bakery cafe on the corner. Ice cream to die for and the best cheesecake I've ever tasted. Greek night on the front is an absolute must. The food is outstanding. Name is on pics. Sissi is a remote location 1 bus a day at 9.15 one going to Hereklion and one to Agios Nikalos, we got on both. It's confusing because you get on the bus for both locations then you get to the main road and swap buses. Sissi happy train is brilliant the driver has a very dry tongue in cheek sense of humour, right up my street. It went over most people's heads. We went up in the mountains for the day on the train. Boufos beach is a 10 minute walk to the right of the hotel seafront, just keep going. It's beautiful a bit dodgy with my mobility but with help I managed it. The beach is standard like everywhere €20 for the beds and brolly. I have to point out to other reviewers Nothing is free in this life. You get a Greek Manuel assisting with them, I found him hilarious but to faint hearted he would come across rude. In a nutshell I am 54 and this is the best holiday I've ever been on. Love all the cats. This hotel and location ticks all my boxes it's clean and refreshing the ambience is perfect. I didn't want to return home. Never have I returned to a hotel before but I am definitely returning here. Maritimo thank you for an amazing holiday.
