Really good holiday staff very helpful
Stayed here this week (11th - 18th Aug) doing bed and breakfast. From start to finish the hotel staff have been absolutely excellent, so friendly and helpful!
We stayed in a deluxe room where we had 2 twin beds (mother & daughter) a kettle, a coffee machine, fridge, water, robes, slippers, a free safe and a lovely touch was a plate of fruit and little bottle of white wine. Maids cleaned our room every day including fresh towels.
We arrived early hours in the morning around 3:30am where we were greeted by two lovely staff members who were so welcoming, gave us a cold drink and one staff member escorted us to our rooms with our cases which was a lovely touch.
The hotel pool is a decent size, no sunbed wars, there are entertainers but they are not pushy but are great to get involved with if you like aqua aerobics, water polo, bingo, darts etc. Timothy is so friendly, funny and great fun for the activities! You can get pool towels free of charge (as long as you don’t lose them) and there are also some free inflatables at the side of the pool for guests to use.
The breakfast has plenty choice ranging from pastries, salads, hot foods, pancakes, waffles, cereal, breads, yogurt, fruit etc with plenty drink choices too. The food during the day at the bar is also lovely and at a reasonable price.
We had access to the spa facilities where the staff there Georgia and Stella are fabulous! They had offers on and did an amazing back, shoulder and neck massage and have other great treatments available.
The hotel is ideally located a 2-3 min walk from the beach promenade which has plenty bars and restaurants and is approximately a 15 minute walk into the old town and harbour which is absolutely beautiful. There are lots of bars, restaurants and shops open late alongside an outdoor games room for children with sweet/popcorn stands which runs until after 11pm. We got on the hop off hop on bus tour for €20 each which is a great way to sight see places in Rethmynon and also did the bus trip to Chania Town and Lake Kournas - both are beautiful places.
We had a late flight home and were able to store our luggage and use a room to shower free of charge. Again, the staff are so lovely and helpful. We have had a fantastic week and would like to thank Hotel Minos for being part of our perfect holiday.
This really is the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde of hotels - a few positives, a few negatives but nothing really outstanding. Positives: (1) reception staff and cleaning personnel - all friendly and welcoming (2) main foyer is well-kept (3) good sized room in the old block (4) plenty of choice at the breakfast buffet (5) plenty of sun beds and umbrellas beside the main pool Negatives: (1) our building and the walk to it from the main block showed the place was in dire need of a deep clean and outdoors tidy-up (see photos) (2) quite a few of the wait staff seemed surly and rather uninterested in their work (3) why is there just one tiny elevator in each of the buildings? (4) if you were staying in the 'old' block, you were obliged to carry your bags down some stairs - not very practical if you had mobility problems (which we didn’t, fortunately). (5) the hotel is advertised as 4-star. Where were the extra toiletries and giveaways? There were none. (6) making you pay €1 for each extra coffee pod used was a bit rich!
We spent 12 nights in Rethymno at the beginning of August, 2026, myself and my son. The location of the hotel is perfect for those looking for a balanced, quiet place - not too close - not too far from the crowded city center. The beach is just a 2 minutes walk away and very nice restaurants are available on the promenade, out of which I would like to mention Lissus Restaurant and Nostos Restaurant The room was located in a secondary, new building belonging to the hotel. Perfect size, with nice luggage storage space, which allowed us to keep the room free of our suitcases, large balcony equipped with quick clothes/ towels drying facilities, also with a small but welcome kitchenette. The cleaning staff is amazing! Always supportive and providing correct service. The hotel is offering nice facilities - large pool and smaller pool for children, various games etc. Rich breakfast - wide array of choices. Last but not least - our gratitude to the Reception ladies, for their warm welcome, very kind assistance and support with our small requests! Looking forward to seeing them again soon! :)
The location was not far from the beach which was lovely. The hotel is not the easiest for a coach to park out front which meant we got dropped off on the side of a busy road.
The reception staff were welcoming however did not give us a lot of information about our stay.
The room was clean but small and unfortunately had a slight smell of sewage.
The cleaning staff were extremely friendly and looked after the room beautifully.
We chose half board but the food was like warm and lacked variety.
The half board only includes evening meal and no drinks not even soft drinks or water which we found disappointing that not a single drink was included. The food once again was not very warm and lacked variety. The staff in the restaurant were not that friendly unfortunately.
Overall the stay was alright.
