This beach hotel is located in a very quiet area in Perivolia in western Crete on the coastal road of Rethymnon, about 2 km from the centre of Rethymnon, where guests will find numerous restaurants, bars and shops, nightlife, links to the public transport network, the Venetian harbour, Fortezza Castle and the Archaeological Museum. The beach is just a one-minute walk from the apartment hotel, the taxi stand is 20 m away, a bakery 80 m away, supermarket and kiosk 100 m away, restaurants and cafes 500 m away, and a pharmacy 150 m away. Souda Airport is approximately 75 km from the spa complex and Nikos Kazantzakis Airport is around 80 km away.
The city hotel's architecture is typical of the old (Venetian) town of Rethymnon. The hotel consists of 86 guest rooms housed in 8 smaller buildings that are built next to each other with small narrow streets leading from one side of the hotel to the other. All buildings have 2 floors and none of them features lifts. Guests are welcomed in a lobby with 24-hour reception and check-out services, and a hotel safe. Further facilities available to guests at the air-conditioned apartment hotel include a children's playground, cafe, bar, restaurant, WIFI Internet access (FREE), room service, a laundry service (fees apply) and a bicycle hire service.
All the apartments are elegant and spacious, and all offer the same facilities (some of them also have hot tub facilities at an extra charge). Each apartment features an en suite bathroom with a shower, bathtub and hairdryer, a double or king-size bed, a kitchen with a fridge, cooker, microwave and tea and coffee making facilities, and either a private balcony or terrace. Other in-room amenities include a direct dial telephone, satellite TV with a DVD player, a radio and hifi, Internet access, a safe, ironing set and individually regulated air conditioning and heating.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Let’s start with the positives, because I’m told that’s how you’re supposed to do these things: the breakfast was good. Genuinely. Croissants, decent coffee, no complaints. That’s it, that’s the list, moving swiftly on. We booked this place through TUI expecting the resort in the brochure: family-friendly, three pools, garden view room, gym, kids’ club. What we got felt more like a “loosely inspired by” situation. The “garden view” room has a lovely uninterrupted view of an active building site. Very industrial-chic if that’s your thing, less so if you paid extra for garden. Onto the pools, plural, allegedly. Pool one comes with a lifeguard who treats “children playing” as a criminal offence — my kids have spent more time in pool time-out than actually in the pool. Pool two is approximately the size of a large bath and I’m fairly sure someone’s nan could out-swim my kids in it. Pool three is so busy you could walk across the surface using other guests as stepping stones. Bonus feature: the main pool doubles as a front-row seat to the main road, so you can enjoy your swim with complimentary traffic noise and a light diesel finish. The gym is one treadmill and some dumbbells in what I can only describe as a large cupboard, and it opens at 10am, which is deeply unhelpful when you have children who consider 6:30am a lie-in. The kids’ club, the one we paid for, turned out to be three hours of enforced colouring in silence because there was a massage happening next door. Less “kids’ club,” more “hostage situation with crayons.” We complained. Formally, politely, in writing. TUI’s solution? More spoons. Not a joke. An actual offer of more spoons. Breakfast: 10/10. Everything else: bring your own spoons, apparently, and low expectations.
Very welcoming staff and always plenty of staff to assist however rooms are outdated and on top of each other, pools full of young kids and little to no quiet or sunbathing areas
Excellent service and happy and helpful staff. Very delicious and exclusive buffet. Clean and nice areas and pools.
Lovely week with the family, the staff at this hotel and indeed the entire town are simply wonderful.
Great hotel, friendly staff, a little bit of a walk into old town but plenty of bars and restaurants near by.
