This charming, modern hotel is in Rethymnon-Adelianos Kampos. CHC IMPERIAL PALACE HOTEL features a total of 74 units. This accommodation was constructed in 2019.The beach (with pebble) is 150m away and it is equipped with sunbeds & umbrellas. The hotel offers accommodation on All Inclsusive basis. It has pool, open air jacuzzi, fitness room, free parking. Adults Only property, accepting guests from 16 years old and on. The hotel may charge a fee for some services.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
This is going to be a long one .. Have just got back from a 10 night stay here with my partner , we were due to stay for 7 nights but decided to extend our stay as we loved Rethymno and Crete in general, however I will be honest we did not have a very good first impression of this hotel. I had read the reviews before hand so I was aware of the open plan bathroom, small rooms and the noise from the busy roads.
When we checked in we were given a room with the view of a muddy field , we asked to change rooms and the receptionist said they were fully booked however shortly after this we noticed the sink pipe was completely detached from the wall and water went all over the room when using it, we told the receptionist who then had no choice but to change our room ( thought it was fully booked ?)
We then moved rooms to a room with a much better view and everything seemed fine, however next morning there was a very strong smell of sewage from the toilet and my partner moved the drain cover by accident ( it's small and on the floor and covered by a removable metal cover) and saw it was completly blocked an absolutely stank, as this was the second room that we had issues in we were not happy, we called reception who sent their handy man to look.. he said this was not good and accused us of blocking the drain, however this could have been a language barrier but at this point we were very unhappy so my partner went to reception, and a different lady came to check our room and could smell it and said it was bad.
We then spoke to the reservations manager who was helpful and apologised and offered us another room and let us view it first , we were given a pool view room which was nice, they also wrote us a note and gave us fruits and cheese in the room as an apology which was also a nice touch.
Upon extending our stay we were going to move to another hotel for the extra 3 nights ( not by choice ) only as we thought this one was fully booked , but they had a cancellation so we spoke again to the reservations manager who offered us a suite for the price of a double room, she was excellent and really helpful and friendly I did not get her name but she was the best receptionist out of them all.
After this mishap with the first two rooms we were happy with the 3rd one and enjoyed our stay, however there are things I feel this hotel could improve on , some of the staff are more friendly than others and I felt like on one day they would be friendly and then another not customer service with some staff needs to be improved
The double rooms are very small, this did not bother us but it can get cramped in there with two suitcases and very little space to store your clothes.
I felt some of the resturant staff were clearly annoyed if you got to dinner close to the time it ended (9pm) and one lady snapped at us one night and said the resturant was closing soon , I felt 9pm was early for dinner to end especially given in Greek culture they are known to have dinner late and people are out doing excursions all day
The food at dinner is very nice and fresh, with alot of options, my partner is vegan and there was alot there for him every night and alot of places we went to outside the hotel didn't really cater for this, breakfast is also nice but we sometimes missed that
The hotel is very quiet and small, after 11pm there is nobody around , if you are after a lively resort type hotel this is not for you , we are a youngish couple and like a bit of atmosphere so went into the old town every night , we did not eat dinner every night at the hotel either , I feel the hotel could benefit from some type of entertainment at least a live singer etc
If you are shy to use the toilet around your partner this hotel is not for you, everything is open and you can hear everything , there is very little privacy in any of the rooms , the suite had more than the double room however but it was still open plan
The balcony's are extremely over looked as other reviews say, you can see in everyone's rooms
We noticed the sewage smell in the room we moved from was very prominent even more so in the suites toilet . I think this has to do with the fact you cannot flush toilet paper down the toilet in greece and guests probably do not listen to this, I don't think this is the hotels fault and is a greece wide issue
Some room views are way better than others, I am a light sleeper and was worried about the noise from the road, this could be heard loudly in the suite as we had a road view room but we accepted this due to the discount , however I could not really hear it all in the pool view room.
The location will not be good for everyone, everything is a short drive away there are no local shops near by unless you are willing to walk about 10/15 mins in the heat, bus to the old town cost €2.20 single , bus stop is around a 5 min walk from hotel and is about 15/20 mins in to town , however the last bus back to the hotel is 12am. A cab back from old town to the hotel is around €18-20 which is expensive. We rented a car via the hotel which I fully recommend , however we found cheaper prices elsewhere and rented a car from a different place for the last 3 days
Says there is a beach near by however there are way bigger and nicer beaches further down the road towards the old town
The grounds of the hotel are very well maintained and clean, the swimming pool was also clean however the jacuzzi was not , rooms are also clean and everywhere across the hotel in general is very modern and looks nice
All in all we loved our stay in Rethymno and the hotel in general was nice hence why we extended, I would like to thanks the reservations manager who was great and also rang the winery we wanted to visit for us to see it they could arrange a cab , her customer service was great and I do feel some of the other staff could learn from her. Despite some of the negatives, I would return to this hotel as I think the positives outweigh them .

I do not recommend this hotel.
Unfortunately, my experience did not meet the expectations I had for a hotel that advertises itself as a 4-star property.
The biggest downside is the location. The hotel is situated next to two busy roads, and the traffic noise is constant, both during the day and at night. If you are looking for peace and relaxation, this can be very disturbing. In addition, the soundproofing between the rooms is poor. You can clearly hear conversations from neighboring rooms, and during the day the noise from the traffic is combined with housekeeping staff talking loudly in the corridors while carrying out their duties.
Another disadvantage is the distance to the beach. If you don’t have a car, the walk can be quite tiring, especially in the high temperatures typical of Crete.
The biggest disappointment, however, is the hotel’s policy regarding drinking water. I find it unacceptable that in a 4-star hotel you are not provided with at least one complimentary bottle of water in your room or even a free glass of water with dinner. On a hot summer day, water is a basic necessity, not a luxury. Having to pay even for a simple glass of water at dinner shows a lack of consideration for guests, especially when you have already paid for a half-board stay. Saving a few cents on a bottle of water does nothing to enhance the hotel’s reputation—quite the opposite.
The room design is also disappointing. In the open-plan rooms, the shower and toilet are separated only by glass walls with sliding doors that provide virtually no sound insulation. As a result, if someone uses the bathroom during the night, everyone else in the room is inevitably disturbed. For a hotel in this category, I find this to be a poorly thought-out and uncomfortable design.
The exterior of the hotel is pleasant and well maintained, although there is nothing particularly remarkable about it. It is a typical modern hotel for this part of Crete. The swimming pool is clean, and the water temperature is pleasant, but it is not enough to significantly improve the overall impression.
As for the food, breakfast is rather average. The selection of cheeses is limited, many of the dishes are repeated every day, and there is little variety. On the positive side, the fruit and vegetables are fresh. Dinner is better, with a wider selection and tasty dishes. However, since I am writing this review on only my second day of my stay, I cannot comment on whether the menu remains varied throughout the week.
The one aspect that truly deserves praise is the staff. Every employee I interacted with was friendly, polite, and genuinely willing to help with any questions or requests. This is undoubtedly the hotel’s strongest point.
Overall, I believe this hotel does not deliver the level of comfort and service that I would expect from a 4-star property. There are simply too many compromises when it comes to comfort, peace and quiet, and basic guest services. Unfortunately, the negative aspects outweighed the positive ones.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hotel.
This is a wonderful hotel, the staff are amazing. We've just returned for a second time, its quiet, close to the beach and the choice of tasty food is brilliant. This time we took elderley parents everyone couldn't have been more friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Elena, suggested some tailored days out to a winery, villages and a monastary. All with a great local taxi company, due to the mobility needs we had. We'd highly recommend, for anyone wanting a quiet friendly hotel.
Just returned from a 10 day stay with my daughter at this lovely hotel. This was my daughter’s second visit. We had a lovely ground floor room that overlooked the pool. The room had everything we needed for our stay. Had towels and also beach/pool towels which was great. Our bed was so comfy and huge. The aircon was great. The room was spotless and cleaned everyday. For our stay we had breakfast and evening meal which was lovely. Lots to pick from and cater for everyone. Spotlessly clean everywhere. The staff were amazing. Such happy people. It was like I had always known them. The staff helped us with what buses we wanted to get. The bus stop was a 2 minute walk and only cost 2 euros to get to the old town which was about a 30min ride. I will be returning. Thank you for making my holiday 🙂
