Ostria Resort and Spa is a luxurious beachfront property located near Ierapetra on the southern coast of Crete. Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We had a wonderful stay at Ostria whilst the sun was shining. The food and drinks were tasty and varied. We loved the different parts of the main restaurant where adults only could eat. The house wine served at meal times too was enjoyable if you didn’t want to purchase premium bottles. We had a swim up room which was very comfortable. The pool was lovely and had a great terrace with loungers etc. We liked to use the main pool too with the comfy loungers and access to drinks. This was away from the slightly smaller pool where the animation team did their bit. I prefer a relaxing atmosphere where I can read and chill. Having a choice was a bonus. The room AC was great for me as I prefer a cool environment at all times. However, we were here when the torrential storms and flooding appeared. Sadly our holiday was ruined after just 2 days but the hotel and staff did everything they could to improve moral. I felt so sorry for all of them as the conditions were unprecedented.
The only thing that was not perfect during our stay was the way the guests were treated by the animation team.
The animators clearly had a strong preference for French-speaking guests and mostly interacted with them, while guests of other nationalities were often left out or simply ignored. This was particularly disappointing because the animation team is incredibly talented and puts on truly amazing shows.
Unfortunately, a large part of the daily activities and entertainment was conducted mainly in French, which made it difficult or even impossible for other guests to participate. This was especially noticeable during the rainy and stormy days of our stay, when the animation programme was one of the few entertainment options available at the hotel.
It is a shame because the animators have so much talent and clearly put a lot of effort into their performances. A more inclusive approach towards guests of all nationalities would have made our experience much better.
Apart from this, the rest of the staff were wonderful. The waiters and bartenders were incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming, and we really appreciated their service.
The place is beautiful but there is a major need for a shift in management style, especially down to the attitudes of staff.

The weather was extremely chaotic but this has nothing to do with the resort, apparently this is one of the worst storms they've had in years. So only managed to get 3 sunny days out of 7!
Didn't really involve ourselves with the animation team but they gravitated towards the French guests and had, from what I could see, little to do with others outside of this.
I wouldn't class this as a 5*, probably a 3* at best. Especially since you have to pay extra to use the gym? Never been to a resort where this has been a thing. I wouldn't say this is value for money.
Would I stay here again? Under the current management, no. If this was improved or changed, then probably.
My husband and I stayed at the Ostria resort for the first time and returned home on Friday. What an amazing place to stay my husband and I don’t usually do any fitness while we’re on holiday. But the availability of so many activities and high-end fitness classes was something we’ve never experienced before the staff who work in the recreations especially. Leticia and Victor were outstanding as fitness coaches we loved every bit of it the teamwork the jet Rox challenge, Boot Camp aqua bikes cardio box what more can we ask for on a relaxing holiday lol! The drinks were absolutely fine and the cocktails were absolutely great, especially the spicy mango margarita on my part. Yes, it does cater for a large French contingency, but that certainly didn’t spoil our whole day as we met some lovely French people and had some cracking games of French Boule with them. The bar staff were super friendly, especially George and Nicos at the pool bar and a special shout out to Nikos at the adult bar who had to put up with our loud behaviour. Sorry Nicos😂. Our room was fantastic. We had a deluxe room with a Seaview spotlessly clean cleaned every day clean towels every day dressing gowns and slippers as well and iron and hairdryer. The entertainment in this hotel is absolutely fantastic. Ayoub the entertainment manager was fantastic at his job and a great compare alongside that he works with an amazing team of Brazilian dancers led by Laura a big shout out to Diego.Livia Gabriella Eric .Gustavo a.k.a. Eddi Murphy!! 🤣 and Bianca their skills and dancing were fantastic . The food in the buffet is plentiful and they provide an absolute array of different dishes. There is something for everyone. The desserts are plentiful and amazing. Reception staff were friendly and helpful in fact we didn’t come across one rude member of staff at all during our stay. On our first day we met the guest relations lady and I apologise we can’t remember her name and she goes over everything with you so that you know exactly where you are what you’re doing what’s available to to have the best holiday. Thank you so much for an absolutely brilliant holiday and we would recommend the resort to friends and family. And we made some cracking friends whilst at the resort which we are thankful for.❤️🇬🇷 Bernie and Sue.
Beautiful rooms and grounds impeccably clean throughout, more like a small village with the little church and gardens throughout. Really great choice of food you won’t be disappointed. The AI drinks menu not the best I have had so this could be improved. The hotel does seem to cater more for the French guests but don’t let this put you off it’s a wonderful hotel.We all really enjoyed our stay.
