Akasha Beach Hotel and Spa

We stayed at this lovely hotel on a half-board basis. As a family, we like to venture out and explore rather than stay in the hotel for every meal, so half board suited us perfectly. The food was nice, with plenty of choice and something for everyone.

We actually arrived on both of our daughters’ birthdays — their 18th and 22nd — so this was a special trip for us. Unfortunately, after a delayed journey, we didn’t arrive at the hotel until around 2am.

We were shown to our two rooms, which were nice inside, but the view was honestly awful. Both rooms looked directly onto a very unattractive, run-down building, which really wasn’t what we expected from a five-star hotel.

We contacted reception and were offered the option to upgrade, at an additional cost, either to rooms with plunge pools or rooms with sea and pool views. We decided to pay for the upgrade and ended up moving rooms at around 3am.

This was probably the most disappointing part of the stay. Considering the hotel knew we were arriving on our daughters’ actual 18th and 22nd birthdays, it would have been a lovely gesture to allocate us slightly better rooms from the start, especially if they were available. We have stayed in many lovely hotels where special occasions have been acknowledged, so this felt quite impersonal and more focused on the opportunity to upsell.

The hotel is clearly very popular on TikTok and social media — even the porter mentioned this while showing us to our rooms. They know that many guests are booking because of how beautiful and photogenic the hotel is, so being given a room overlooking such an unattractive building was particularly disappointing.

After upgrading, however, we were very happy with our new rooms. We stayed in rooms 2205 and 2206, and the views were perfect.

I personally wouldn’t bother paying extra for a plunge pool. They are cold, and depending on the location of the room, they don’t necessarily make for the best balcony photos either. Some face towards the spa building, which isn’t the most interesting view. For us, the sea and pool view was definitely the better choice.

The rooms were cleaned well overall, although I did notice black mould around the ceiling-mounted shower head. It looked as though it had been there for some time due to the build-up, so I chose to use the handheld shower instead. In a five-star hotel, I really wouldn’t expect to see this. Cleaning should include areas above eye level too, particularly shower heads and fittings where mould can easily build up.

On checkout day, we were able to stay around the pool until around 6pm. Reception then gave us access to a guest room downstairs with a shower, towels and somewhere to get changed before leaving, which was useful.

We travelled in early October and found the pool area much calmer, with plenty of sunbeds available. I’m not sure I would personally choose to visit during high season, as I can imagine there could be quite a battle for sunbeds when the hotel is much busier.

Overall, it is a beautiful hotel and we did enjoy our stay. The food was good, the cleaning was generally very good, and our upgraded rooms had fantastic views. However, for a five-star hotel, I do think more attention could be given to special occasions, room allocation and some of the finer details.

If you’re booking mainly for the beautiful views and aesthetics, I would definitely recommend paying attention to your room category before arriving.

I had such an amazing time at Akasha. The hotel is beautiful and the menu is really nice and there is a variety of food. Their staff are 10/10 and we had the absolute pleasure of being attended to by Popi, Katerina and Constetina ( These ladies are the best photographers) and Ethimis.

Will be coming back again!!!
