This 4 star hotel is located in the city centre of Heraklion and was established in 1964. It is a short drive away from the Knossos and the nearest station is across the street of the hotel entrance. The Hotel has a 2 restaurants, 1 bar, four conference rooms, a pool bar-restaurant and an outdoor swimming pool (swimming pool operation seasonal mid May -early October) and a gym . All 131 rooms are equipped with refrigerator, hairdryer and air conditioning.
Be sure to enjoy recreational amenities including a 24-hour fitness centre and a seasonal outdoor pool. This hotel also features complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services and wedding services.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Stayed here for a week in September/October. My views are: Location - nicely situated for easy access for drop offs without heading through the towns narrow streets. Being on the site of the old wall everything in the old town is so close with many fine bars and restaurants close by along with the sights/museums. Access to the port for trips is also very easy from here with a 10 min walk Staff - definitely the best aspect and all very polite and attentive. I’m a coeliac and for breakfast the head chef showed me personally around the excellent buffet on our first day for what I could have and then made sure I had biscuits and cake available for the following days. Shout out to Natalia who, without prompting, delivered these to me every day. Thanks so much for this:-) Room - we were in an economy room (234) which was fine except, being smaller, the bathroom was a little of a shuffle to get in and out of between the door and shower screen. The bathroom was a wet room and water seems to go everywhere but manageable if you’re careful. The beds are comfortable with foam mattresses although not the higher spec ones which take heat away so can make you sweat a little I found, which I wouldn’t normally do. Food - only ate breakfast here but this was outstanding for a Greek hotel I would say Communal areas - the roof top bar and pool area (whilst we were only able to use it on one day because of the poor weather at the time) was excellent with plenty of space. With the rooftop shut that just leaves reception and the bistro type area behind reception. The bistro is a bit soulless and can be quite noisy due to it being a bit boxlike and spartan but they serve a good coffee there. Reception is quite quiet and there are a couple of sofas there. The sofas are the type that need cushions on them due to the depth but for some reason they are not there so do not make for comfort unless that’s the idea to discourage customers from sitting there too long? One night there was a guy playing the piano there and it would have been lovely to have been able to sit more comfortably whilst he played. Noise - finally, noise which I note others pick up on. This is the sole reason I only give three stars for this hotel. I don’t regard myself as a light sleeper however the doors in the hotel are probably the worst I’ve ever experienced as they neither insulate you from external noise when shut or do they shut quietly themselves. With a hotel construction that has no noise attenuation, like carpets and just hard stones walls, floors and stairs, noise echoes up and down the corridors - it wouldn’t have helped moving rooms. It wouldn’t be so bad if it was just in the evenings or mornings but this hotel is frequented by airline crew who come in late and leave early for the most part. I did not sleep well for one of our seven nights there with doors banging shut waking me every time. Lots of pros and only one con - sadly if there’s one thing you want a hotel to do well it’s provide you with a restful sleep.
The hotel is lovely very friendly and staff very helpful. The room is very clean and spacious. The breakfast is continental and lots of choices. The rooftop pool is amazing. Lovely view of Crete from the rooftop pool. The food is great and lots on your plate. Lots of shops nearby, lots of restaurants to eat out. Lots of places to visit. The hotel is very central to everything. The atmosphere is great. Value for money. The service is amazing. No noise level. The airport is only 15 minutes. The port is nearby if you want to catch a ferry to Santorini.
We stayed for a week and just couldn't fault this hotel. Lovely room and staff and reasonably priced too. The room had a good shower, comfortable bed, effective Aircon and plenty of space. The TVs had Netflix available and many channels including some English speaking. On the roof is the swimming pool and a bar and restaurant that serves excellent food. The view from the roof is 360 degrees and great for watching the sunrise and sunset. There are two lifts. Both are quite small and slow but were adequate and always working. Downstairs there is a cafe at the back which is open to the public. Breakfast is served on a dedicated breakfast floor and we found it to be an extensive spread. It is buffet style with both hot and cold food available. It is well managed with plenty of staff. The hotel is situated in the centre of Heraklion and is just a couple of minutes' walk from the main shopping and eating areas. It is also across the road from the archaeological museum. Overall, a really enjoyable place to stay. We will return next time we're in Heraklion.
I’m so glad we chose to stay here in Heraklion. The hotel itself is well maintained and very clean, and located within walking distance of all the museums, historical sites, and shopping in Heraklion. The rooms are attractive and updated, with comfortable beds and with great AC air conditioning. The breakfast buffet has many options and is good for “buffet food.” I absolutely love the rooftop pool/bar/restaurant- this is a perfect place to relax and enjoy tasty food & drinks after a day of traveling or exploring. The rooftop offers 360* views of the island and the ocean- making it an amazing place to watch the sunset. I highly recommend this hotel - for this price I only expect a clean/plain room, but the Capsis Astoria has rooms that are updated and somewhat “stylish” and access to an incredible rooftop pool/bar/restaurant/lounge area.
We had a great stay at Capsis Astoria during our visit to Heraklion. The location is fantastic, right in the city center, making it very easy to explore the old town, restaurants, shops and main attractions on foot. It’s also very convenient if you want to visit places like the Archaeological Museum or take a short trip to Knossos. The rooms are recently renovated, modern and comfortable, and everything was very clean. The breakfast buffet was also very good, with a nice variety of options and fresh products. The staff was friendly and welcoming and always happy to help with recommendations about the city. Overall, a very good choice for a city hotel in Heraklion. The combination of location, comfort and service makes it a great base for exploring the city.
