This 4 star hotel is located in the city centre of Heraklion and was established in 1964. It is a short drive away from the Knossos and the nearest station is across the street of the hotel entrance. The Hotel has a 2 restaurants, 1 bar, four conference rooms, a pool bar-restaurant and an outdoor swimming pool (swimming pool operation seasonal mid May -early October) and a gym . All 131 rooms are equipped with refrigerator, hairdryer and air conditioning.
Be sure to enjoy recreational amenities including a 24-hour fitness centre and a seasonal outdoor pool. This hotel also features complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services and wedding services.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We stayed for a week and just couldn't fault this hotel. Lovely room and staff and reasonably priced too. The room had a good shower, comfortable bed, effective Aircon and plenty of space. The TVs had Netflix available and many channels including some English speaking. On the roof is the swimming pool and a bar and restaurant that serves excellent food. The view from the roof is 360 degrees and great for watching the sunrise and sunset. There are two lifts. Both are quite small and slow but were adequate and always working. Downstairs there is a cafe at the back which is open to the public. Breakfast is served on a dedicated breakfast floor and we found it to be an extensive spread. It is buffet style with both hot and cold food available. It is well managed with plenty of staff. The hotel is situated in the centre of Heraklion and is just a couple of minutes' walk from the main shopping and eating areas. It is also across the road from the archaeological museum. Overall, a really enjoyable place to stay. We will return next time we're in Heraklion.
I’m so glad we chose to stay here in Heraklion. The hotel itself is well maintained and very clean, and located within walking distance of all the museums, historical sites, and shopping in Heraklion. The rooms are attractive and updated, with comfortable beds and with great AC air conditioning. The breakfast buffet has many options and is good for “buffet food.” I absolutely love the rooftop pool/bar/restaurant- this is a perfect place to relax and enjoy tasty food & drinks after a day of traveling or exploring. The rooftop offers 360* views of the island and the ocean- making it an amazing place to watch the sunset. I highly recommend this hotel - for this price I only expect a clean/plain room, but the Capsis Astoria has rooms that are updated and somewhat “stylish” and access to an incredible rooftop pool/bar/restaurant/lounge area.
We had a great stay at Capsis Astoria during our visit to Heraklion. The location is fantastic, right in the city center, making it very easy to explore the old town, restaurants, shops and main attractions on foot. It’s also very convenient if you want to visit places like the Archaeological Museum or take a short trip to Knossos. The rooms are recently renovated, modern and comfortable, and everything was very clean. The breakfast buffet was also very good, with a nice variety of options and fresh products. The staff was friendly and welcoming and always happy to help with recommendations about the city. Overall, a very good choice for a city hotel in Heraklion. The combination of location, comfort and service makes it a great base for exploring the city.
Capsis is an amazing hotel right in the centre of the city literally a 5 m walk to the high street and bar area! Pantelis the manager goes out of his way to make you feel art home while Mr Manolis the owner is ready to meet your every need. At Capsis you will get Cretan hospitality all the way and if you choose the 4th (top ) Floor, you can enjoy the best view of the city walls. Breakfast is amazing and all the employees are ready to meet your every desire, so kind, genuine and ready to serve you. Congrats!
We stayed here 15 - 23 May 2025 on the first week of our holiday in Crete. A wonderful hotel in a fantastic location. Our room was very comfortable and had a marvellous balcony overlooking Elefterias Square. A truly excellent location. The free buffet breakfast was outstanding. The staff in the hotel especially reception and the breakfast restaurant were lovely. Yiannis, in particular, was amazing - he arranged for us to switch rooms so that we could have a balcony where we could both sit outside together (some of the balconies at the back of the hotel are very small). The rooftop swimming pool was glorious and the views from the rooftop were superb. The hotel was a little above our normal budget but well worth it - we had a very enjoyable stay. Heraklion is a fascinating town with so much to see and do, fantastic restaurants and is an excellent base for exploring the north and middle of the island. The remarkable Heraklion Archeological Museum is only 100 m from the front door of the hotel, and the frequent local bus service to Knossos goes from a bus stops just a few metres away from the hotel entrance.
