This was our second year staying at Pilot Beach, and we clearly enjoyed our first visit enough to book again. We had another good holiday, but unfortunately it wasn’t as good as our first stay.
We knew when we booked that it wasn’t quite the same as our previous visit, but for a hotel that’s supposed to be five-star, we felt standards had dropped more than expected. Small touches were missing too. Last year we received a complimentary bottle of Pilot olive oil when we checked out, but this year there was nothing. More importantly, the check-out experience was very abrupt – just a quick “see you later.”
We checked out at 10am, but our transfer wasn’t until 8pm. That evening we went for dinner, and when we explained to the waiter that we had already checked out, he was abrupt and made us feel like we shouldn’t have been there. It ended in an argument, which is not what you expect from a five-star hotel. I spoke to the captain, who told us to just leave it and enjoy our dinner.
However, after we’d finished eating and were getting ready to leave, he came back and told us we needed to pay. I explained that if there was a charge, this should have been made clear before we ate, not afterwards. We then went to reception, where the receptionist was rude. I explained that nobody had told us the evening meal wasn’t included and that, on our previous stay, dinner on departure day had been included. There were several other families doing exactly the same as us and only paying for their drinks, as you normally do on the half-board package.
Eventually, the manager came over, apologised, and resolved the situation. However, it left us feeling as though he was personally paying for our meal, when all of the confusion could have been avoided by simply telling guests at check-out that dinner on the day of departure was no longer included. Instead, we were left feeling embarrassed, as though we’d tried to avoid paying a €30 bill.
The post-check-out shower facilities were also disappointing. They were basic and gave the impression that once you’ve checked out, the hotel is no longer interested in you.
Overall, we still had a good holiday and we like the location, but unfortunately, because of the decline in service and the way we were treated, we won’t be returning. We’ve stayed in enough five-star hotels to know what that level of service should look like, and unfortunately, Pilot Beach no longer meets that standard.
The hotel is very clean and peaceful but the room that we want to book is the room aboard the sea but the reception reports everyday the room and something that I didn’t like is the lifeguard yells at me I hate him when he’s yelling just because I went to the wrong zone in the sea
We had a fantastic time at the Pilot Beach Resort, the beach is pretty much on your doorstep! The pools are large and fun for everyone. The resort is surrounded by simply stunning views and gives some great photo opportunities! All the staff are great, very attentive and welcoming. The different restraunts offer a huge variety of food so hats off to the hard working chefs! Rooms are clean and offer some great views of the beach and surrounding areas. We would love to go back, which we hope will be very soon!.
We have just returned from a 9 night stay at the hotel. It is a great hotel and the location is good - it is a fairly short walk to the local town. On arrival, we discovered that the room we had booked was too small, so the hotel moved us to a larger room - at no cost, which we were very impressed with. Amenities at the hotel are great, and we enjoyed being able to go to the beach if there were no sunbeds available at the pools. Good choice of pools. Our rooms were clean, albeit there was a smell coming from the drains. It can get windy by the beach, so be prepared not to be able to swim in the sea if it is too rough. No complaints re the general noise levels around the hotel. The beach bar along the beach, Paradise Cafe, is recommended for lovely food. We were also allowed to stay in our room for a further 4 hours on our last day, as we had a night flight - also again at no extra charge. Good food, and would recommend dinner at the hotel beach restaurant. Atmosphere - very family orientated hotel so if you are looking for an adult orientated hotel, this may not be for you. Overall good value for the money, great service and atmosphere.
Our stay was extremely disappointing, and unfortunately there were issues in almost every aspect of the hotel.
The beds were extremely uncomfortable. One of the beds was actually a foldable chair, which was probably the most uncomfortable thing I have ever had to sit on, let alone sleep on. This is completely unacceptable for accommodation advertised as suitable for families.
There were also no sunbeds available, which made it very difficult to enjoy the pool area.
The reception/desk staff were not friendly or communicative, and whenever we raised an issue, we did not feel that it was taken seriously.
My daughter was bitten by an insect multiple times while sleeping. I reported this to the hotel, but unfortunately nothing was done about it. This was particularly concerning as the bites happened repeatedly during the night.
The cleaning standards were very poor. I requested a simple plug for the bathroom tub and had to call three times to remind the hotel. It was eventually brought approximately three hours later, by which time my children were already asleep. On another occasion, the cleaner took money from the table that was not intended for them, which was extremely concerning.
The kids' club was also misleading. My children were invited to participate in a T-shirt painting activity, but only after they had taken part were we told that we had to pay for it. If an activity has an additional charge, this should be made clear to parents before the children are encouraged to participate, not afterwards.
The food quality was also disappointing. On one occasion, the overnight porridge appeared to be spoiled. On another occasion, I became unwell with diarrhoea after eating the fish. Given the other issues with the hotel, this added significantly to our concerns about hygiene and food safety.
The room description was also misleading. We booked a "garden view" room, but the view was essentially of a fence area and was nothing like what I would consider a garden view.
The air conditioning was not working properly either. It would sometimes operate at full power and then suddenly stop, making it very difficult to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room, particularly at night.
Overall, this was far below the standard we expected. The combination of uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, poor cleaning, lack of communication from staff, insect bites, misleading room and kids' club information, disappointing food and malfunctioning air conditioning made our stay very stressful and uncomfortable.
I would not recommend this hotel based on our experience, and I believe the hotel should seriously review the standards of its accommodation, housekeeping, food service and customer care.
