Rimondi Grand Resort and Spa

We’ve just returned from a wonderful stay at RG Village Crete Resort & Spa, and it’s definitely a resort I’d recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing break in Crete.

From the moment we arrived, the thing that stood out most was the setting. The resort is surrounded by beautiful, well kept grounds and has a genuinely tranquil atmosphere. If you’re looking for somewhere lively with entertainment and nightlife on your doorstep, this probably isn’t the resort for you but if you want to slow down, relax by the pool and enjoy a beautiful setting, it’s a great choice. It’s set up in the hills, surrounded by olive trees, with fantastic views and sunsets. One thing to bear in mind is it can be fairly steep walking around the hotel grounds.

The staff and manager were incredibly helpful, friendly and welcoming. We originally booked a family room but were very lucky to be upgraded to a suite with a private pool, which was an amazing surprise! The suite gave us plenty of space as a family, and having our own pool was a real treat. The room was clean and modern, with maid services booked via the hotels website. One thing worth knowing is that the private pools aren’t heated, so that’s something to consider when choosing your room category but this definitely didn’t matter it the August heat!

The food was another highlight for us. There was a good variety, including plenty of Greek and Cretan dishes alongside some familiar favourites, so there was something for everyone. We particularly enjoyed being able to experience some of the local flavours rather than having a menu that felt completely generic.

The pools are lovely and fit perfectly with the relaxed atmosphere of the resort, and the spa is another great option if you’re looking for some downtime.

The hotel beach is a short, free shuttle ride away and is a mixture of sand and shingles with rockier parts. The sea was incredibly warm and there are sun loungers there for hotel guest use.

For families, there are facilities for children and teenagers, including a bar area with pool tables and air hockey. I would say that older children and teenagers who want lots of organised entertainment might find the resort a little quiet. Rethymnon is a much better option if you’re looking for more nightlife, restaurants and a livelier atmosphere.

One thing we really liked is that you can make the holiday as relaxing or adventurous as you want. There are excursions available to places including Chania, Balos Lagoon, Gramvousa, Elafonissi, Kournas Lake and the waterfalls and secret beaches. There are also food, cooking and traditional Cretan experiences, so there’s plenty of opportunity to explore beyond the resort.

Overall, RG Village feels like a resort designed around relaxation, nature and experiencing a more authentic side of Crete. It isn’t trying to be the biggest or loudest resort and I think that’s exactly its appeal. It’s also great value for such a stunning location.

Would I stay again? Absolutely.

I’d particularly recommend RG Village to families and couples who value a peaceful, beautiful resort and want the option to combine relaxing pool days with exploring Crete.

Stayed at RG in August with my children 12&16 Overall it was a nice place a little dirty, sun loungers and tables were marked and not cleaned down on our stay. Restaurant staff seemed miserable and appeared to have an attitude. Poolside staff also very miserable and seemed very uninterested in their jobs.

We checked out at 11am and flew home at 21:00 wrist bands are cut upon checkout and only snack bar and pool can be used once checked out.

Food was nice however we felt there was in no way a wide selection at all and breakfast did not cater to children.

Pools where nice however one pool is adults only and this was not stated prior to our arrival.

Room cleaning and towel refreshment is made via whattsapp services and isn’t entirely effective.

Our experience was bar staff are uninterested in conversation at some points making visitors feel unwelcome.

Sadly another negative was luggage storage is simply leave your cases in reception which made it feel full and cluttered the hotel would benefit from proper luggage storage.

We left feeling disappointed in the food and staffs attitudes/presentation mainly writs bands being cut on check out, for reference we arrived at 3am the first day due to delays and a 2 hour transfer therefore paid for a day we hadn’t used and felt it was a little ‘unfair’ to have wrist bands cut on checkout and told only snack bar and pools can be used when we wouldn’t be leaving until late that evening, this hasn’t been the case when travelling to other resorts in my experience.

However the Greek gentleman who escorted us to our room the night of arrival was very pleasant smiled and was talkative throughout our stay he was keen to help and sadly was the only positive experience we had with any staff.

I’ve had such a lovely stay and have to give a special mention to one of the ladies working at the bar -Diesi Konstantina . She has been absolutely wonderful throughout my holiday — always so friendly, welcoming and happy to have a chat. As I’ve been travelling on my own, little things like that have genuinely made such a difference and she always made me feel comfortable and looked after.

She works incredibly hard but is still always smiling and nothing ever seems like too much trouble. She’s an absolute credit to the hotel and definitely one of the people who has made my stay that little bit more special. Thank you for looking after me! ❤️
