Mistral Bay - family trip stay
Honest review of our stay for 8 days. The hotel has a great location, beautiful views and very friendly staff. Special thanks to Tanzeel, who was helpful and kind throughout our stay. However, there are several areas that need improvement. During the last three days, the food was extremely salty, and the morning coffee was honestly very disappointing, to be honest disgusting. It would also be a nice touch to provide at least one bottle of water per person per day, at least small one. The rooms are fine, but housekeeping could be better — there was visible dust on the furniture and under the bed. The AC also needs proper cleaning and maintenance, as it had an unpleasant smell and could be uncomfortable for guests with allergies or asthma. Would we come back? Probably not. For a one-time stay, it’s fine, especially considering the location and friendly staff. The hotel has great potential, but it needs more investment and attention to detail to reach a higher standard.
Hotel deserves no more than 3 stars
First of all, this hotel does not deserve a 4-star rating. The rooms are very small and cramped, and the “balcony” is so tiny that full-size chairs do not fit on it, so the hotel has placed small stools there instead. On top of that, part of the balcony is occupied by the air conditioning unit.
The hotel has over 90 rooms, but the dining area has only around 23 tables. Quite often, when we came for breakfast or dinner, we had to stand with our plates for 10–15 minutes waiting for a free table.
Breakfast is very repetitive, with a very limited selection of bread and cold cuts. The choice of fruit is especially poor—most of the time there was only watermelon and canned peaches. The coffee from the machine is of very poor quality and simply doesn’t taste good.
The hotel is accessed by a fairly steep staircase, so I would not recommend it for elderly guests or anyone traveling with heavy luggage.
The bathroom is so small that it is difficult to get out without opening the door completely.
The swimming pool is tucked away between two buildings, which means it gets very little sunlight and hardly anyone uses it. It is also very small and only 1.05 meters deep.
The hotel has only two elevators, each with a maximum capacity of three people. As a result, they are often occupied, and waiting can take a long time, so you frequently end up using the stairs instead.
In my opinion, this hotel deserves no more than a 3-star rating. If you plan to spend most of your time outside the hotel and make little use of its facilities, it may be an acceptable place to stay. However, having traveled extensively and stayed in many 4- and 5-star hotels around the world, I can say that this property falls well below the standard you would normally expect from a 4-star hotel.

A comfortable, modern hotel by the incredibly beautiful sea in the city centre
Our family stayed at the Mistral Bay Hotel in the first half of July 2026. It was our first time in Crete, and to put it simply, we were 100 per cent satisfied with our holiday. We prefer to spend our holidays in picturesque towns where the local population lives (rather than just the tourism industry and those who work in it); we don’t rent a car. Agios Nikolaos turned out to be an excellent choice – it’s a small town with fantastic views. The hotel is conveniently located: within walking distance of the beaches (we visited four), the harbour, the town centre with its famous lake and popular tourist promenades, tavernas, and several large local supermarkets. The nearest beach is a 5-minute walk away, and the sea, in all its shades of blue, is just across the road. There are several flights of steps leading up to the hotel, and the town is quite hilly overall (this isn’t a problem if you’re in good health), so it’s worth bearing in mind when planning your trip. The climate is dry, with low humidity – the heat is very bearable, and it can be windy. We didn’t spot any mosquitoes) The hotel has been recently renovated and features a comfortable, cosy reception area, lobbies, a restaurant and a rooftop bar (the hotel’s highlight, with a brilliant vantage point). The rooms are small in size but cosy (good mattresses, bedding and towels); they’re a pleasant place to stay. The room has an electric kettle, a mini-fridge, air conditioning and a small balcony (clothes from the beach dry very quickly). The photos on the website are accurate. This was our first time staying in a city-centre hotel – it doesn’t have its own grounds. However, we love the sea and walking around the city; we weren’t looking for swimming pools or water slides, so this hotel was perfect for us. The restaurant serves a buffet-style meal – nothing too fancy, but it’s tasty and there’s plenty of choice. There were always two types of good-quality meat and fish on offer. Of course, there were vegetables, salads, some fruit, desserts and ice cream for dinner. During our week’s stay, we had no digestive problems; the food didn’t go off and we didn’t get bored of it. It looked appetizing and smelled and tasted great. They also served traditional local dishes – the pitas with cheese and spinach, moussaka and gyros were particularly delicious. Breakfast and dinner were included in our package. The staff were welcoming and friendly, both at reception and in the restaurant. That was another pleasant aspect. I’d definitely come back here and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to friends; I think that speaks louder than any words.

Excellent hotel! We were given a room with a beautiful sea view, which was a wonderful bonus. The beach is only a 5–6 minute walk away. The food is delicious and varied, and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. I'm so glad I chose this hotel and would happily stay here again! Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A perfect place to come back to
This is my second time staying at this hotel, and I truly enjoy coming back here. Since my last visit, the hotel has been renovated, and everything now looks beautiful, cozy, and stylish.
The food is delicious, and the sea is just across the road with very clean water. The location is great, with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby.
The view from the room is absolutely breathtaking and makes the stay even more special.
The staff is very friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to come back again!
