Agia Marina

The hotel is situated in the region of Agia Marina, a coastal area 8 km west of Chania. It was built on a hill, around 850 meters away from the sea. The advantageous site of the hotel on the hill, in a peaceful, natural environment, offers magnificent sea views as well as the opportunity to spend a quiet holiday in a friendly, family environment. It has 66 rooms spread across three buildings and features a breakfast/ dining room, a lounge equipped with satellite TV, a playground and parking lot. All of the rooms are equipped with an en suite bathroom, a telephone, a TV, a fridge, a radio, individual air conditioning and a balcony, offering views of either the coast or the surrounding gardens. Seven Days In The Sun.

A lovely hotel, with great views and a very nice pool/ bar area. There is also a pretty and well maintained garden. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms and pool area are cleaned daily to a high standard. The beds are comfortable and the A/C helps you get a good nights sleep in the hot climate.

There is a great selection for breakfast, which changes daily, everything we have had whilst staying has been very good. Including food and drinks from the pool side bar.

The hotel is in a position that allows easy access to Agia Marina and Chania. There are lots of lovely restaurants and Tavernas to try in both. There is also a lovely restaurant called Thoro a 5 minute walk away.

Our stay at the Eleftheria Hotel has been lovely. I would highly recommend staying here.

Beautiful hotel and area but has its cons

I give this hotel a 3.5 stars, and I would return if I wanted a very relaxed getaway. We will start of with the pros, lovely check in with reception gave us all information about the hotel On a sheet, rooms were big clean and had great air con and had a book explaining the area and what you can explore or tours also has so much more information at reception. Also has a dnd or make up room sign on the rooms, a fridge which was great at no charge. All areas of the hotel are clean and well looked after beautiful layout with amazing plants everywhere, beautiful views all around of the mountains and the beach. The bar has an alcohol menu and then a food menu great food but little selection to choose from does smoothies which is great but takes some time to come out due to only having two people work on the bar, they have entertainment some nights and will slip an invitation under your door. The walk to the strip is about 15 minutes I didn’t find it difficult to do so wasn’t a problem, has alot of restaurants and bars but you do have to walk further along we walked about 15 minutes more down the road to find different restaurants, has loads of beach side restaurants which is beautiful when the sun is setting. We had our room made up for us while we was here and it was made very nice and cleaned and had fresh towels on the bed only thing I did notice is that they didn’t change the sheets it was re made with the same sheets so not great as we was there for a while so I would like fresh linen. At the end of the hill if you turn right there’s a taxi service which is great you just ask to go somewhere and I have always been able to get straight in and never had any money problems so we visited chania twice

Now we will talk about the cons, as said before the bar didn’t have much selection on the menu and took a while to get our food as there’s only two people working the bar and I think the bar shuts at 11/12am as we went down there at 12 And it was shut. Due to the size of the hotel (having 3 separate buildings) I thought they would have another pool or at least more sun beds as half way through our holiday more People showed and we couldn’t get sun beds for the rest of the holiday. It is away from the strip But if you use the shuttle bus it’s so much easier but if there’s more than 8 people they have to come back for you which is a pain as you’re waiting even longer for it. Cleaning ladies were unbelievably loud at 7am dragging stuff or there trolleys rolling, the building seems to be quiet thin as you can hear a lot of what’s going on in the hallway, ceilings and walls and it’s just luck if you get people that are respectful enough to be quiet. Bathroom is small you have to half shut the door to get to the toilet and the shower is very small width wise me and my other half would hurt our arms on the door or the shower wall. The bed sheet is ridiculous it wouldn’t stay tucked underneath the bed so I would have to remake the bed every night. The WiFi itself isn’t great drops out a lot or doesn’t work so get an eSIM, on our last day a cleaner let herself in at 10am and I stopped her as my other half was naked as we was getting ready to leave but check out is 11am so I’m not sure why she was coming in an hour before check out and not even knocking to check if the room is empty either so that made me a-bit uncomfortable, doesn’t help there’s no lock on the inside of the door so couldn’t even lock it myself and they would know I’m still in the room. The area itself can be busy but it’s not a busy area there’s no entertainment anywhere and a lot of restaurants and bars shut at 12am latest.

We would return as it’s a beautiful hotel and did really enjoy ourselves but there’s so many other places that are more of an interest I would say this is more a family / older couples area / hotel.

Lovely hotel & staff, great for families!

We've just arrived back from a great stay at this hotel. We arrived at midnight after a delayed flight to find a fridge stocked with a meal of Greek salad, sandwiches fruit and water which was very welcome. We had a garden room which was lovely and quiet, with great Aircon. It looked small on first view perhaps but the layout meant there was ample space, with a lovely seating area outside. The beds were comfy and the shower powerful. The rooms were cleaned daily, in fact the whole hotel was immaculately clean. Our cleaner Gerta was lovely, so friendly and professional. A credit to the hotel. My daughter left her a note to find out her name and she took the time to leave a lovely response in our room which my daughter was thrilled with. We stayed half board and enjoyed the food, solid choices for breakfast with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, meats and cheeses, with a variety of cooked elements changing daily. Evening meals were great too. A selection of hot dishes, eg lamb, chicken, fish or pork with risotto or pasta, soup and a plentiful variety of salads/cold elements. The restaurant staff worked hard and were very friendly and helpful. Even at busy times, I saw no queue for tables. They really looked after my youngest daughter who is coeliac, they always brought her her own special breakfast cake/dessert at tea time, without us even having to mention and always happy to double check ingredients for me. Special mention for Pratak who was so kind and welcoming. The pool was brilliant, plenty of sunbeds, a real sun trap. The pool bar served great food and able to accommodate my daughter's dietary requirements. Karan was brilliant all week! The location of the hotel is great. We're an active family and loved the walk into town and back. Even in the August heat, it was totally doable (but can imagine it could be a lot for some so there is a minibus). Great being at the top of the hill, tucked out of the way but with great views. We also used the gym, collecting the key from reception in the morning. There's enough kit to do a good workout in a small but well air-conditioned space. Perfectly ample for what we needed.

For local area, I'd recommend CJs beach bar for an evening cocktail (Thomas was a star there), also a trip into Chania on the public bus, although busy they are very regular and only had to wait a few minutes. We absolutely loved our week in the sun, thanks for everything 🥰

Great Peaceful holiday

Where to start with this hotel. It is by far a great wee hotel. It is kept very clean, all the public areas shine. The gardens are immaculately kept, some marvellous roses. Plenty of grassed areas, one of which could possibly be converted to a crazy golf course, this would enhance the hotels facilities and maybe generate a small income for the upkeep of the gardens. The name Eleftheria comes from the Greek word meaning freedom or opeace, and this describes it perfectly

The reception area is well kept, with a large lounge that also ventures out into the open air. A luggage room and good toilets. It would be handy to have a path directly from the outdoor lounge to the car park. There is a lift for the less able.

The restaurant has 50/50 divide between indoor and outdoor is spacious and modern. There was always plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner. Hot and cold dishes at both.

Breakfast has a different type of eggs each day, sausages, bacon, one day beans the next mushrooms. Various breads and cold drinks. Dinner was really good, mainly Greek cuisine, so don’t expect, spam and chips, or pie and chips, this was for me just great as I go abroad to experience different foods.

The pool area is really nice with panoramic vies of the bay at Aghia Marina, plenty of sunbeds and a wee pool bar. Also here are toilets and a shower room which was ideal for us as wee didn’t get picked up till the afternoon, so we could freshen up after a days sunbathing.

The room was spacious, although the wife and a fall 5 weeks before our holiday and our first room was in block 3 which was too much of an effort for her to get to the main building, but the staff were great and moved us into the main building on the second day.

The rooms are air conditioned and at no extra charge, there is tea making facilities and plenty of cupboard space. We had a walker with us, but it was accommodated quite easily in the room. The shower was really good, the water being hotter in the evening as is to be expected with the solar heating. The bathroom was just right, large enough for us and has a hairdryer, as well as an extendable shaving mirror.

Although the hotel is 800m from the resort front, a minibus is provided to take guests up and down. Wee hired a car and there are 2 car parks that can be used. There are the ubiquitous cats on Crete, but one morning we saw a wild cat on the grounds, the size of a medium dog, beautiful and elegant as it moved through the grassed area. Are real treat for nature lovers. The equally ubiquitous Cicadas (genus Cicada / Lyristes), are just as noisy as they always are.

The best assets of this hotel is the staff, they are absolutely brilliant, it would do a disservice to name a few as they all equally good, but here goes. Dimitris in the bar, Karan also bar and restaurant. The maitre’d in the restaurant, his name escapes me, he is a nice man from Nepal. Thias who worked between the bar/restaurant , all the many others. Thank you for all your assistance with my wife and I. The reception staff were really helpful and nothing was too much bother. Would we recommend this hotel, without hesitation. Would we consider returning, yes.
