The family-friendly hotel enjoys an ideal situation frontline to the pebbly beach of Messonghi on the eastern coast of Corfu Island, between the unspoilt greenery and lush mountains on one side and the eternal blue of the Ionian Sea on the other side. It is located between the villages of Messonghi and Moraitika. Corfu Town is about 22km away and can get reached within 45minutes by public bus.
The hotel offers classically decorated rooms, amenities include wireless internet access and a furnished balcony or terrace with unobstructed views of the landscaped garden or the sea. Children will love the various children's pools, the playground, the playland, the mini-club as well as other activities. This hotel is rammed with people to the point that it is like trying to have a relaxing holiday in central london. They reserve sunbeds the night before so there are never shady spots for the kids and you end up on the lawn on a towel under a tree. The breakfast buffet is a free for all, people are so rude- pushing, shoving or just walking straight through you. Its VERY loud everywhere you go so don't come here if you are looking for a bit of a chilled, peaceful holiday. They really need a no reserving sunbeds policy and a quiet zone somewhere. Oh and people are chuffing cigarettes everywhere so there's a nice bit of secondhand smoking to add to the fun!
Disappointing customer service overshadowed what could have been a lovely holiday
We stayed at Canvas by Mitsis Messonghi for 10 days as a family with a toddler and my 80-year-old mother.
There were many positives. The grounds are lovely, the hotel has a great family atmosphere, and many members of staff worked hard and were friendly. Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by the way a significant maintenance issue was handled.
On arrival, we were allocated a room that smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, so we requested to move. We were given another room, which was larger, but unfortunately the air conditioning was faulty from day one. It leaked water continuously, creating a puddle on the floor and a slipping hazard. Over the following days, I visited Reception several times every day to report the issue. Every time I was assured that an engineer would come, but no effective repair was ever carried out.
Eventually we were offered a bungalow, but halfway through a holiday, packing and moving with a toddler and an elderly parent would have been extremely disruptive. I simply asked whether the air conditioning could be repaired or replaced instead. Again, I was repeatedly told someone would come.
Towards the end of our stay, the air conditioning became weaker before failing completely on our final full day. We then had to pack all our belongings and move rooms on our last evening, meaning our final night was spent relocating rather than enjoying the resort.
What disappointed me most wasn’t that something broke—these things happen. It was the repeated promises that someone would come and fix it when, in reality, nobody did. Had the hotel been honest from the beginning and either repaired the unit promptly or arranged a suitable move earlier, this review would probably be very different.
I also spoke to Guest Relations before leaving and was told my complaint would be investigated and that someone would contact me after I returned home. Unfortunately, I never received any follow-up.
This hotel has a lot of potential, and I’m sure many guests have wonderful holidays here. However, based on our experience, the aftercare and handling of maintenance issues fell well below what I would expect from a four-star family resort. I hope management focuses on improving how genuine guest concerns are handled, because that’s what ultimately let this holiday down.
Avoid at all costs
Only giving it 1 star because it won't let me give it zero!!
If your thinking of going here with your family, I strongly recommend you look at other options.
Food edible at best, repetitive same boring foods for lunch and dinner everyday, the chefs carving up the joints only won't to give you 1 slice.
Drinks absolutely awful, every bar has ridiculous ques, no where near enough bar staff working, when you finally get served you get a lovely warm flat horrible lager in naff dirty not even halve pint plastic glasses, even on the evening!! We ended up going the super market and buying our own drinks, we couldn't drink it any more.
Hotel felt really dated and quite dirty if truth be told, horrendous smell of sewerage constantly, kid splash pool constantly merky water just felt disgusting when you came out of it.
Shower you can barely turn round in, rooms tiny for a family of 4, litteraly on top of each other, and no soundproofing what so ever! Can litteraly here everything from surrounding bedrooms.
This not the hotels fault but found a lot of other guests were very rude no manners or common courtesy at all.
So on overall, would I go back absolutely not, would I recommend absolutely not

3 OUT OF 5 STARS! The hotel is very big and lines can be long at times. There are a lot of pools to choose and the entertainment staff are very good. Our room was small but nice, cleaned everyday and our cleaner was lovely. Unfortunately, there was a family that let her kids knock on peoples doors at night so that woke the whole block up. Hotel staff came up to sort out. This is not the hotels fault but they didn't check in with any families to reassure them that everything was handled or if we needed anything. Food, breakfast was the same everyday but edible. Lunch and Dinner, it was always the same stuff, there was only one night of the 7 night stay it changed to Greek night and wow, that was amazing. The rest of the nights, we got so bored of the food we didn't want to eat it and the chefs do not like giving more than one slice of meat to you. We went out for lunch and the experience was so lovely and the food was incredible. Entertainment in the evenings were very late (9:30pm), so most evenings we left to go bed so the kids could get up on time. We still had a good holiday but we would not return to this hotel. The atmosphere is not very welcoming, communication is key in my eyes and goes a long way. The value of money, we probably could of got better but still made the most of it and had a great time.
Not 4 star, 3 Star Hotel in my eyes
Messonghi itself is beautiful and surrounding places we visited, paxos and antipaxos... stunning. The hotel is 3 star it has not reached its 4 star status yet. If I had seen TUI and Jet2 ratings first I would not have booked his hotel, I went off Easyjet and Trip Advisor. Basic rooms. Standard food If you love ice cream and crepes they looked the best food on site. Pizza way too much cheese and tasteless and so was the pasta. Some grumpy staff but the odd one so very lovely. Not a lot in the surrounding area if your looking for a busy place outside of your hotel. Sunbeds a battle even after more beds had been purchased. Personally I dont want to go away and have to set my alarm clock to get a sun lounger, I go away to relax. Perfect hotel if you like a big complex, average evening entertainment and kids club. There is a French side, so french children only in that club and the entertainment around the pool is all in french. There is an English club on the other side during the day and night. I made the most of the week away and had a lovely time with my family but will not be visiting this hotel again, not for me when I pay the money we have too in the summer holidays for a 4 Star, I want 4 Star all round.
