Mitsis Messonghi Beach

We had a fantastic stay at Canvas by Mitsis Messongi and couldn’t recommend it highly enough the food, drinks and staff were all absolutely top class .Everyone was so friendly and helpful which really made our holiday. A special mention too for the hotel for providing us with a room to shower and change in for our late departure ( can’t understand why they just didn’t allow us to stay in our original room. The first room we were given was fine for a couple but much too small for our group of three but staff were very accommodating and moved us to a family room which made all the difference. There were a few minor downsides, the beach is very stony at the waters edge so you’ll need shoes, the towels looked rather tired and we would have loved to hear some traditional Greek music being played around the hotel. Overall, though these were small things compared with all the positives. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would definitely return. Oh yes and the staff all looked super smart in their beige white and blue uniforms.

The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and the service was generally very good. The location were good and everything was clean. Unfortunately, the room was a real disappointment. I'd score the room 1 star.

I was staying on the second floor of the main building, and the room felt very tired and in need of some serious TLC. There was visible damage to the bathroom door and some of the fixtures had swollen from what appeared to be water damage. Overall, it just wasn’t a particularly pleasant room to spend time in.

That said, I suppose you don’t really come to a hotel like this to sit in your room, and the staff and other aspects of the stay certainly helped to make up for it.

The buffet was also a little disappointing. There was a good choice of dishes, but for me the biggest issue was the temperature of the food. Much of it was only lukewarm rather than properly hot, which really affected the enjoyment of the meal. Ironically, I spotted a microwave on my last day — unfortunately, by then it was too late for me to make use of it!

Oh, lastly, only being given only one key was an issue. With two adults in the room, we were told to keep leaving our key in reception, so the other one could get in. Not really suitable, but that's the only option we were given.

Overall, the staff and service were good, and there was plenty of choice with the food, but the tired condition of the room, key and the lukewarm buffet food let the hotel down. With some investment in the rooms and a little more attention to keeping the buffet food properly hot, this could be a much better experience. Some things four stars, some one star, I've averaged it out to three stars.
