This is a very special hotel set in a very special area. It was originally the Corfu Hiton and was designed by a very famous Greek Architect. When you arrive and enter the main front doors it is breathtakingly beautiful and very much from a period when design wasnt just about optimum space utilisation. It was about wow! The rooms are of an excellent size, easily big enough for a couple and a spare bed. In practical terms it it entirely suitable for being the base for a dream holiday, especially if you book a sea view. Very large balcony (ive had smaller rooms!l excellent i terraced air conditioning with no extra local charge, free room safe, tea and coffee making facilities, a decent fridge and TV. The beds are two very deep si goes pushed together for peaceful rest and the pillows are plentiful and well stuffed. The bathroom is fully functional with wall hung basin, bath with shower over and a concealed cistern w/c. Be prepared for limited headroom in the shower, here the room is a hostage to the original room height in a time when bathing was considered more luxurious than showering but its a small point. As for food - absolutely excellent in every way. If you can't find a decent 3 course meal here every night then I am sorry for you. The range of roast, steamed and grilled meats, greek salads, pasta dishes, soups, desserts , fresh fruits and vegetables leaves one faced with a miriad of choices. The furniture throughout is of a very high standard, very stylish but also good quality and if the inside isn't good enough then the view out front is probably the best in all of Greece! That's a big claim but if its good enough for James Bond its good enough for me (for your eyes only.) Evenings can be spent either around the pool area which has an excellent layout and reputation for great food, or upstairs in the main cocktail bar and verandah. Drinks are not eye wateringly expensive and well prepared with cocktails starting at €10 and only rising to 12. They serve a selection of Cofiot beers to suit all tastes and of course a good selection of wines starting at only £24 a bottle in the dining room. All staff seem to be trained first and foremost to immediately make you feel special, welcome and amongst friends all through your stay. Lovely people. You can play pool, table soccer, tennis, ping pong and work out in the well equipped gym. A range of free weights and machines are there from 7 am till 7pm so if you, like me, get bored easily its a great way to get fit and stay interested. The beach lift is absolutely fab, you can hike it if you'd rather and I did so a few times but otherwise it is effortless to get down to the private beach. A rock pier system enclosed a large swimming area for safe paddling away from boats etc and the wildlife there is abundant. Fish, crabs and other sea life can be seen everywhere. Walk around the peninsula and you find yourself on the jetty of the small harbour with walking access to the small church and views across to Mouse Island. You are very close to the airport runway and will see and hear jets arriving and departing all day and night so if you love watching these miracles flying about youll enjoy your stay. If you want a more peaceful stay try to get a room with a lower number than 30 on any floor but you will still be well aware of your location. Didn't spoil it for us too much but we like aircraft and they soon become just part of the experience. All in all a perfect holiday for the price and yes, we would absolutely go again. What we'd do differently? Probably try to get a room on the 7th floor with a lower number to be further away from the runway but in all honesty this wouldn't stop me from going back. Id also hire a car for the week as the immediate area around the hotel isn't quite as lovely unfortunately. The island itself offers so much to do and see it would be a shame not to get out and see it. Local car hire is available in the lobby but it wasnt cheap compared to the offers we had seen on holiday extras, just add in the CDW at 15 per day to get a true figure. Great location with lovely sea views ,stayed on 6th floor superior room ,well finished decor ,spacious balcony ,good air con .Very clean and serviced daily .Views of incoming aircraft over Mouse Island not too noisey. Service was good from reception, bar staff, maid service, and restaurant staff. Hotel had good pool with elevator to private beach “towels supplied “ beach bar and pool bar .Never used spa . Buffet restaurant had lots of choise and good quality. Entertainment every evening ,varied perhaps not to everyone’s taste.
Overall a really lovely stay, everything we wanted for our relaxing week away in the sun. We both agreed that we would come back here in the future.
As aviation nerds we loved the idea of staying right next to the airport, so if like us you like a bit of plane spotting then you will love this. If the sound of planes is something that annoys you then perhaps not for you as it is consistent throughout the day from early morning until around midnight.
Unfortunately we were subject to a delay in our holiday due to the NATS debacle, but the hotel were kind enough to upgrade our room which made the wait worth our while. We had one of the shared pool rooms on the -2 level and we made good use of the shared private pool. Nice and peaceful compared to the main pool as most people in the other rooms didn’t seem to use it as much. What I would say about the shared pool was that it wasn’t the cleanest - lots of plant debris, sand, algae etc. and saw the pool being cleaned only once on our last day when checking out as there’d been a storm the night before. If we had paid the premium for this room then I would’ve said something about this. Another problem we encountered with the shared pool was the poor privacy. There are 2 gates, one of which faces onto the walkway to the beach and we often found people staring at us or taking photos. As well as on two occasions random people coming into the pool area to take a dip even though they weren’t staying there! I had confronted them and after the second time I went to try and secure the gate and found the laminated no entry sign in the bushes and decided to put this up - after this it seemed to improve somewhat. Again if I’d paid the premium for this type of room I would’ve been very unhappy. Other guests in the neighbouring rooms seemed grateful for my efforts as we collectively agreed the privacy wasn’t great.
We were half board, and so we had breakfast each day - the usual buffet style with plenty of choice. Evening buffet we did only use twice during our stay but there seemed to be plenty of choice with different themed evenings.
Service from the staff was brilliant, very friendly and helpful. Despite the issues with our pool, we did see a lot of maintenance staff about. The cleaners came daily to our room replacing towels, moping and so forth - no complaints about the room cleanliness. Even had complimentary bottles of water left each day as well as a coffee machine replenished every day.
There are two onsite restaurants which have wonderful views of mouse island and the planes landing. We ate at La Veranda one night - food was lovely. There is also a bar upstairs to this which we made use of, which also has easy access down to some of the other bars - a nice shortcut to save your legs!
There is a bar in the main building too if you prefer to not walk far, however it doesn’t have much seating for the amount of guests using it on an evening. Not our preferred place to drink however, we found it to have very little atmosphere for the most part, and then for a few hours in the evening there is live music which was very over powering at times - difficult to have a conversation.
The location of the hotel for us was ideal, we mainly wanted to relax at the pool or beach, plane spot and visit a few bars/restaurants. We did head into the town on two occasions, this is about a 15 minute bus journey - the bus stop is right outside the hotel entrance and costs just 2 euros pp one way.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay - we needed it after the chaos of travelling!
The hotel was in a great location, fantastic views, spacious room, enjoyed the beach especially the beach bar staff - Nikos, Giorgio, Mark and Lydia - great fun and fantastic , all the staff In the hotel bar were great - Lefteris, Eva, (sorry I don’t remember the other 2 peoples names) in the bar) all of them were fantastic and we enjoyed the entertainment. Amir was a delight in the restaurant and always had a smile on his face. A couple of more thank yous to Marie who was amazing in cleaning our room when my husband was really ill - we really appreciated it. And last but not least the fabulous Eleonora (guest services) who was amazing and looked after us impeccably - we can’t thank her enough. Overall the staff were so amazing which made our holiday great - we didn’t want to leave. Panos and Cathy
Firstly we want the mention the first class service that Rania gave us when we arrived. She made sure that our room was to our satisfaction. It ticked all the boxes. Also we want to thank Antonia and Sofia, the front of house ladies that welcomed us with open arms at every meal we had in the restaurant. Mr Spiros Alexia was so kind in making sure that our coffee was to our liking. He is also very welcoming acknowledging us with every meal. There are so many members of staff to thank as everyone from the room service cleaners to all staff that make the running of the hotel go extremely smoothly. In general our stay at Corfu Holiday Palace was most memorable and we would highly recommend the hotel to everyone that would like to visit Corfu. We can’t wait to return next year.
