Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
The hotel is located in a very quiet area with a good entrance to the sea. It has a huge area, so if your room is situated near the entrance hall you will walk a lot. The hotel is very clean a the rooms have a big space. If you expect some wonders for your youngest the hotel offers a nice aquapark and also pools for children. Your kids will enjoy minidisco and also movie evenings. There are many bars and snack points near the pools which was lovely. You can pick some food for the whole day, including the main restaurant. There are four different types of restaurants. The main one, then the Greek, Italian, Asian and fine dining. In those you need to make a reservation. We didn't try the fine dining, but personally the best was the asian restaurant, where they offer a great sushi and asian food as the main course. In my opinion the greek and italian restaurant were average. The service in the hotel is pleasant and if you have problems they try to solve it as soon as possible. The hotel has a family friendly athmosphere. I would say if you like the grecotel style hotels and you would like to travel to Corfu, this hotel si nice. What I would expect better would be the food in the main restaurant. It was not much to choose from, according to my expereince from the grecotel hotels at Rhodes and Crete. This reduces my rating. The other thing, if you expect a typical greek streets outside the facility with the small souveniers shops you might be dissapointed. It is more as "stay in the hotel" concept, then go for every evening walks.
We stayed at Grecotel Botanica in August for a week with 2 children aged 6 and 11. We found the hotel to be exactly as advertised. The Aqua park was great for kids, the swimming pools were very clean and sun beds very comfortable (the ones with a mattress). We ate in all the restaurants apart from fine dining due to the children. Our favorite was the Italian, great location also Fuego Beach Restaurant which was directly on the beach, it was a 10 minute walk from hotel along the high street and included as part of the all inclusive package. This was a great touch, and was great to leave the hotel and do some shopping along the main high street which came alive at night with shops and restaurants. My husband tried the gym which looked great with a boxing ring but the treadmills needed maintenance. The wine tasting with Georgia was very informative and definitely great for trying some Greek wine. Georgia made the children very welcome and they even had their own cheese board. We had some lovely professional photos taken - 120 euros for 10 digital photos. The staff were all friendly and were really on the ball as soon as you finished your drink they collected the empties and asked if you wanted another. The spa was great I had a facial and a massage with my daughter which I can recommend. The beach was sand and stones with large concrete slabs protruding as you walk out so take beach shoes. There are also animals on site, horses, donkeys, geese, deer and goats which looked very well looked after and cleaned out regularly. The only criticism is the rooms we stayed in one of the Yucca rooms with shared pool, there was no where to get ready no dressing table and no where to put products we ended up having to put all around the sink taps and on the floor. Only one mirror in the bathroom which was fun with a pre teen daughter !!! There is a coffee machine in the room however we didn’t use it, only one pillow but you can ask for more. The balcony was very spacious. There are lots of mosquitos and wasps around hotel, as soon as it gets dark the mosquitos come out make sure you have lots of repellant and afterbite cream . Despite covering ourselves in repellant we all got bitten. I even got bitten above my eye so had two days with a swollen eye. However the hotel do try with plug ins in your room and citronella candles. The cocktails are amazing using branded alcohol. Overall fantastic stay, would definitely recommend for a great family holiday.
Great time with the staff Very very polite and professional service. They go above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant as it can be. We were there only for a weekend for a business meeting. The staff in the restaurant and the bar were amazing, really made a high quality stay for us. Would recommend for anyone willing to chat and meet new people. An amazing experience.
Just back from a week at the Grecotel Costa Botanica and wanted to give an honest review - I have to say that I wouldn’t trust many of the most recent reviews that have flooded in since the last more critical one.
Overall we had a good week as a family but we definitely felt disappointed about many aspects of the holiday. As others have said, the reality of the rooms is quite different from the marketing photos, with the rooms being very spare and devoid of any luxury touches. Yes the pools turned all our swimwear green, but having had 3 separate pool closures for ‘poos in the pool’ incidents during our stay (is this normal??), I could see why they are very heavily chlorinated.
Yes, there are wasps and mozzies everywhere and it does ruin eating outside. The hotel is in a beautiful location with beautiful grounds which consequently means there will be more bugs. There is spray readily available for guests everywhere but I still felt the hotel could do more for guests like burning Greek coffee which is known for keeping wasps away.
For us the biggest disappointment was the food. The buffet choice is samey and unappealing, even the à la carte restaurants (which are not really à la carte since they have a set menu) aren’t great. (We were served Greek salad with no feta, when we asked for feta it seemed to be an inconvenience.) The lack of fresh coffee anywhere was also a huge miss for us.
And this leads me to the service- with the exception of very few, almost all the staff seemed very unhappy, particularly at the buffet restaurant. They are not proactive in providing water or replacement cutlery etc, and everything seemed to be a chore.
Our best dinners where when we dined out - you get to do this as part of the package and I really recommend booking the White Beach restaurant- it’s a short walk along the beach - right in the water, perfect for watching the sunset. We had lovely freshly cooked fish and the service was lovely, friendly and warm.
Overall, while the location is 5* I would say to expect 3 star service, food and accommodation.
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! Everything was excellent, from the cleanliness and comfort of the room to the friendly and helpful staff. Service was great and the atmosphere was really pleasant and relaxing. Everything was well organized and we had everything we needed for a great stay. I would definitely recommend this as a choice for vacation and would happily come back again. We truly enjoyed our stay!
