I stayed at Dionysos Central Hotel in the heart of Paphos for the first time as a solo guest for 11 nights on a Bed & Breakfast basis from 29-Jul-26 to 9-Aug-26. The hotel is homely, quaint, charming and steeped in history and culture. The main thing for me was to enjoy a quiet and relaxing holiday which I was able to do, thanks to the hotel’s welcoming and friendly ambience. Dionysos Central Hotel is officially rated 3-star, but my personal experience suggests it should be closer to a 4-star hotel, subjectively at least 3-star +
** Summary Appraisal ** I enjoyed a wonderful experience at Dionysos Central Hotel, so I give the hotel 4 TripAdvisor stars.
** Detailed Appraisal **
After a smooth and quick 25-minute journey in a TUI minibus/taxi, mid-afternoon arrival at the hotel was a pleasant experience. Reception staff were very welcoming, friendly and polite. Check-in was efficient. Thanks to the duty receptionists, Santa and Olga.
I was given Room 204 on the 2nd floor, categorised as ‘Superior Double or Twin Room with Sea View’ It also overlooks the pool area. On entry to my room, I was welcomed with a nice bowl of fruit and a bottle of Dionysos red wine. There was also a bottle of still water in the minibar which was much appreciated after long and tiring hours of travel.
Always the most important asset of any hotel. All staff members are a credit to Dionysos and thoroughly deserve recognition by management. All were friendly, polite, professional and hard working. Many were also good fun and humorous. As a solo traveller, they quickly made me feel comfortable and relaxed.
All guests that I met were friendly, many of them being on hand for good chats and laughter. This made for a good atmosphere and helped me as a solo guest to relax even more.
Room – the brightly designed and decorated room (204) met all my needs... comfortable twin beds, adequate wardrobe storage space and numerous shelves and drawers to store other stuff. That said, I appreciate that two people sharing the room might find storage space a bit limited. No issues from my perspective because I was a solo occupant. The balcony was an adequate size and had a table and two chairs. Air conditioning was the best I have met anywhere! The bathroom was spotless and had a great shower. The room also had an efficient minibar which cooled drinks very well. Kettle was also handy for tea and coffee. Every day, sachets of coffee and tea bags were provided. Miniature sized milk containers were also provided daily.
Room Cleaning – my room was cleaned daily to a very high standard. Two different cleaners did my room alternately. Well done! Many thanks and appreciation to you both. The room safe is free of charge, so use it for peace of mind! Currently, there is no tourist/eco tax.
The entire hotel is spotlessly clean, thanks to all the excellent room cleaners, hotel grounds cleaners, pool attendants, gardeners, and all other maintenance/technical staff. They work so hard, and you can see they take pride in their work. It was nice to be able to chat with some of them. Excuse my Greek, but I’m gradually getting there :-) I learned some "get by" Greek which was pleasing. That said, all staff of non-Greek nationality spoke good English - I met staff from various countries including Bangladesh, Nepal, Latvia and Russia.
Service provided by all reception staff was excellent. Service provided by all waiters/waitresses in the main restaurant and La Place Royale café/bar/bistro was of an equally high standard. I frequented La Place Royale on a few occasions...nice, friendly atmosphere and delicious food. The hotel also has another à la carte restaurant, Roast and Grill Corner. I didn't dine at this restaurant, but people I met who dined there rated it highly.
The breakfast food in the main restaurant was very good. Both cold and hot dishes were on offer. The temperature of the cooked breakfast food was always hot. In my travels, I often come across cooked food that is, at best, only lukewarm. So, thanks to all chefs. I can’t speak of evening meals as I was B&B. I’m guessing that evening meals would be of an equally high standard.
There wasn’t any formal entertainment. I never involve myself with formal entertainment anyway. I did enjoy the background easy listening music, never too loud.
The pool is on the small side and well kept. It was more than adequate for my own needs. I used the pool a few times. The water was warm.
Location is a big plus. Dionysos Central is situated on a gentle sloping incline, only about 40-50 metres from Paphos main promenade and seafront. It's only about a 2-minute walk down to the seafront. Paphos has plenty good tavernas and cafes/diners/bistros to choose from. On holiday, I always tour different places using public transport. However, on this holiday I remained in Paphos simply because the heat during early August was tiring and oppressive. Daytime temperatures peaked at around 33 C.
Overall, Dionysos Central hotel offers excellent value for money.
** Summary ** Dionysos Central Hotel is officially rated 3-star, but my personal experience tells me it should be closer to a 4-star hotel, subjectively at least 3-star +. I enjoyed a wonderful holiday experience at this hotel.
-- Suggestions for improvement -- Mobility – the hotel has several steps both inside and outside its grounds. Perhaps a quick low-cost fix would be to install ramps for mobile access.
Courtesy Room for Departures and Luggage Storage – with check-out being at midday, my pickup time wasn’t until 10 pm. This meant hanging around for many hours. There was nowhere to shower and freshen up. It's true that the pool shower could be used, but I don't personally think that's a suitable solution. Although there was no secure room to store luggage, reception showed us an area to put our cases right next to the manager's office. In fairness, I felt confident putting it there.

We stayed here last year and I’m only just getting around to writing this review, but I can honestly say the standout for us was location, location, location – it was absolutely excellent.
The hotel itself is very nice, with clean and well maintained rooms. The pool area is on the smaller side, but it is kept in great condition.
The Royale Restaurant, which is part of the hotel was excellent and offered great value for money – we ended up eating there more than once because it was so good.
Overall, a great stay in a fantastic location. We would definitely consider returning.
The staff are extremely friendly from the reception staff, waiter in dining area to the cleaners. Towels changed daily and beds, tea & coffee replace on a daily basic, nice fruit, water & wine in room on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Waiter service round pool area which was great. Room was beautiful could not fault any area of hotel.
We stay at the Dionysos at least once a year and have done for the last few years as we are regular visitors to Cyprus. This hotel is ideally located near to Paphos harbour, bars and shops so great if you do not wish to hire a car for your holiday as most things are within walking distance. It has been here many years and has a traditional feel however the rooms add a more modern touch so the best of both worlds. It is great value for money as the location is excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are kept lovely and clean. There are steps to the front of the property and a few steps within the hotel but staff are always on hand to assist if needed as we have seen them help other guests. We prefer the main building overall as there is also an annexe building at the rear of hotel. The main bar street in Paphos is at the rear of the property and there is a bar at the side so you may hear some music at times but this was not something that has ever bothered us. We will see you again next year :)
Currently at this hotel. We booked a deluxe room with a balcony. Our room is nice but the balcony y is unusable. Very disappointed. I asked to move rooms at reception and was told no because they are fully booked - which is a blatant lie as I can still book a deluxe room room on the TUI app for the rest of our stay !!!!!! Water from the shower dials the bathroom floor and entrance to our room - very dangerous. It’s a shame as the room is modern and the hotel is nice enough but very disappointed
