Constantinou Bros Athena Royal Beach Hotel - Adults Only

We came to this hotel in August 2006 for our Honeymoon and decided it would be great to go back for our wedding anniversary. We booked a 2 week stay, bed and breakfast only as we wanted to explore Paphos and surrounding areas and try different restaurants etc. On arrival we were greeted by the reception staff who were super helpful and checked us in straight away and we were shown to our room. As I looked around I noticed that the hotel hadn’t been updated since our last visit 20 years ago, I believe the hotel was relatively new then. So slightly disappointed with that I’d give the benefit of the doubt hoping to see that other changes may have been made. Following morning we went for breakfast, again greeted by some lovely members of staff who gave us the option to sit inside or outside, we opted for outside. Again looking around everything was still the same, same sun loungers, same pools, nothing had been updated apart from a couple of pool bars. Next was Gym time as I’m a regular visitor to my local Gym, the Gym was excellent for weight training and cardio, although there were only myself and my wife in there we had full access to everything, I went 10 times in 14 days. Next up was sunbathing time, plenty of sun loungers there was more than enough for everyone so it was easy to get a bed at anytime of the day. As I looked around as you do, people watching etc. I felt like I was in a residential care home, I think the average age of guest was 70 years old plus, this is certainly not how I remembered the hotel 20 years ago, the hotel catered for honeymooners, young couples back then. At the time of booking we weren’t aware that the hotel caters more for the retired and older people of this world, I would suggest the hotel management make potential new visitors and guests of their targeted clientele, because it did feel I was in the Cocoon movie or theTV sitcom waiting for god. I think this hotel could be excellent, it’s in a fantastic location, it’s super clean, has great gardens and the members of staff are very helpful, although not sure who the animation team, so a couple of people trying to do gym aerobics and playing quiet music but that was about it. Which brings me onto my last bit that the hotel management need to change, my wife went to reception to ask if some light background music could be played around the pool as we were bored of listening to crickets or whatever they were, she was advised that it’s an adult hotel so no music is played, just wow, I’ve never ever come across that in all my years of travelling and I holiday 4 times a year around Europe and further a field. So to prove a point we played music on our Ipad which was an instant success, even had other guests asking what’s the playlist was today. So to sum up, we had a fantastic time in Paphos, met some great people, ate in some fantastic restaurants, would I come back to this hotel, I’m afraid not, it needs a major overhaul and a management team with some fresh ideas.

Fantastic experience from start to finish . Great little touches by the staff making you feel special at all times. Beautiful place and hotel and easy to get around . The entertainment was good and a special shout out to Ada and Abiel who were fantastic in keeping us entertained daily. Two very special people. Would come again
