Honestly just had the most amazing 11 nights at this hotel. The hotel and grounds are absolutely beautiful, we stayed in the fishing village so we were in the older part of the hotel, the rooms were very nice the beds were very comfortable which is always a plus. The air con could be better however we were there mid July so it was absolutely scorching and think this is why we wanted it to be cooler. The food was amazing for an all inclusive hotel so much variety everything was fresh and lovely, the staff were brilliant and could never do enough for you so very helpful if we needed anything especially on reception they were fab. Entertainment was good it was all about the kids, I wish id found this hotel when my kids were younger as they would have absolutely loved it. The a-la-carte restaurants were nice, we liked the Mexican best, the fact that they are out of the hotel gives you the sense of a night out but not having to pay anything extra. Overall this hotel is superb we will be returning 😊
We booked this hotel only 2 weeks before departure, having had to change hotels from Tenerife. Swim up rooms - We booked a swim up in Ionion and WOW! We were in room 2007, on the quiet side which in our opinion is the best side. Although you are at the front of the hotel, its very quiet and you only have to share the pool with 8 or 9 rooms. You have no bar but it’s a 30 second walk. You get the sun on your terrace till about 1pm and the pool till 3pm. We use to then go round to the shared swim up, round the other side at 3pm to get a couple hours of sun there. If you stay in the swim ups on the lively side, you don’t get any sun on your terrace till 3pm. If you want a bed in the sun you have to get up early to find a sunbed opposite the pool. Kinda defeats the objective of swim up room and not needing to race for sunbeds. There is a swim up bar but the pool is busy with all the premium guests in the Ionion block being able to use that pool. Still, it’s worth paying the extra for the rooms because we found the area nice and quiet compared to the main pool. Tip- if you want the quiet side, 2001 has a big terrace so I’d recommend that room. We did take a look at the Aeagan swim up rooms as everyone seemed to rave about them. We thought it was busy, loud and actually quite outdated compared to the Ionion rooms. Our room was clean though, no creepy crawlers at all during our stay. Cleaners were fantastic. Only negative was we travelled with 2 teenagers and there wasn’t much privacy for them. Normally we have a privacy screen when we stay in family rooms but these don’t have them. However the shower is separate to the toilet which is a bonus.
Swim up bar Great drinks, strong! Maria is lovely. She works long hours and can come across a bit moody however you do warm to her. She can get cross when people splash but it’s not because she’s worried about getting wet. It’s because she doesn’t want pool water getting into you drinks and making you sick. So just keep that in mind.
Breakfast and lunch These were in the Ionion buffet restaurant which was fantastic. Very clean and staff were friendly. Food was delicious. Always something to eat, could not fault it other than the drinking water wasn’t cold enough, more tepid.
Snack bar Fresh pizzas, wraps, hotdogs, chicken nuggets, chips, salads, pasta and even desserts. All delicious again.
There was numerous drink stations, one with slush puppies and also an ice cream stand.
Bars Alcohol is really good here and so are the cocktails. Tip- you can get nuts from the main bar in the evening.
Dinner This was over at the Aegean. Beautiful building, quieter sitting outside and smells lovely with the bbq. We were a little worried when we first walked in and saw that there wasn’t a lot of dishes but the quality was fantastic. Plenty for everyone and always something different. Probably the best food I’ve had in an all inclusive for a long time. Even the desserts were amazing.
Entertainment We didn’t see any entertainment during the day but could see bits in the evening. We tend to play cards and sit in the bar of an evening but everyone said the shows were great.
Main pool We didn’t use the main pool. It looked very shallow on one side and quite deep on the other. We didn’t think there was many sunbeds either for the amount of rooms but equally I didn’t hear anyone complaining.
Shop - Reasonably priced and can get pretty much what you need.
Waterpark We booked with the hotel reps. You get free drinks vouchers if you book with them otherwise you can book online for a discount. We got a return taxi which was €18. You can walk or get a bus. To walk it’s about 10-15 mins bus is €2 each per journey. Great day out, food and drink was lovely. Facilities clean and staff were really friendly.
Transfer We did a private transfer through TUi. Only took 20 mins rather than the 40 + with numerous pick ups/ drop offs.
Download the hotel app and check in before you arrive. Saves time when you arrive at reception.
WiFi - was really good around the hotel but none in the evening restaurant.
Mosquitoes Didn’t get bitten once but we used the wrist bands and lemon body wash/spray
Gripe! Parents allowing kids to scream and shout along the corridor late at night without a thought for those already in bed or those with young children. Or the slamming of doors in the morning to reserve their sunbeds. To be fair, it was only one family but a little courtesy goes a long way.
Not really any negatives for this hotel. It is definitely value for money.,
Whilst the fishing village rooms are basic, they are clean and convenient for everything.
Didn’t have a bad meal, plenty of options, fresh food brought out all the time, plenty of choice including BBQ meats.
Food is available from 7am, all day. The poolside snack bar is excellent for a quick meal or an afternoon snack.
All of the staff are great, so welcoming and can’t do enough.
The entertainment is a little dated, the staff work very hard, but the entertainment team could learn from other countries about how to make it more current.
It is true, the Pool music can be loud some days, but you have other options of places to sit.
Our room was very close to the evening entertainment, which stops no later than 11pm
The only negative is of course the sunbed reserving. Even though there are plenty, people still reserve them before 7am.
The Astro pitch is great, kids meet there every night around 8:30 to play a game.
2 things could make it better. Don’t charge for the safe, add it onto the room charge. Charging €1 for the floodlights is a bit difficult, when kids go alone and don’t have cash. Takes ages for the floodlights to come on and lasts around 20 minutes.
We recently returned from an amazing 11-night stay at the Aliathon as a family of four, and we honestly couldn't recommend it highly enough. We stayed in the Fishing Village, and our room was in the perfect location right next to the kids' splash pool, which made everything so easy with our two children. The food was excellent throughout our stay, with a great variety every day and different themed nights to keep things interesting. We also ate at the Mexican à la carte restaurant, which was fantastic and definitely worth booking. There were daily activities and entertainment for both children and adults, and our two absolutely loved the evening entertainment and the mini disco every night. It really made the holiday extra special for them. Every member of staff we came across was friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. The Purples entertainment team were incredible and worked so hard to keep everyone entertained – they were a real highlight of our holiday. Overall, we had a brilliant stay from start to finish and made some wonderful family memories. We will definitely be returning and can't wait to visit again. Thank you to everyone at Aliathon for such a fantastic holiday!
Overall a very enjoyable holiday. Family of 4 kids 12 & 14 yrs. Staying in the Ionian hotel Good points:
Areas for improvement:
For ref: The nearby waterpark is great. Book online and check social media for discount codes! Its a 20 minute walk from hotel. We did it once in 40,degree plus heat. Needless to say we got bus on our second day. 611 bus stops just along from the hotel supermarket and 5 minutes to waterpark.
Overall we had a great holiday above points all minor issues but do stop us from giving a 5 star.
