Where do I start?
Stayed in Rm 416 on 4th floor, overlooking pool 30.08.26 - 13.09.26 (we had emailed reservations and requested high floor room with pool view beforehand)
There are no fire evacuation plan/procedures on the back of bedroom doors! This is a clear breach of fire regulations, which apply even Cyprus!!! TUI and Jet2 should be checking these things before guests set foot in the hotel! Emergency exits not clearly signposted and I’ve no idea yet where the fire assembly point is supposed to be! Given very recent fire ant the Mandali in Protaras, this is unacceptable!
Food was appalling! Meat was never cooked thoroughly (braised steak and beef stifado were like rubber). We did question origins of some meat!!
All ‘hot’ food was lukewarm at best, so didn’t dare try chicken or pork. Bread rolls at breakfast, were previous nights leftovers and dry as sticks. Jacket potatoes were still hard inside and inedible. As result we spent circa €800 that we hadn’t accounted for, eating out every night and after a few days, gave up on lunch/breakfast altogether. We were not expecting Michelin star quality, but we were expecting edible, hot food!
The steps into the pool were INCREDIBLY slippy, to the point where at least one person a day, slipped and fell, some days it was 2 or 3 guests! There is a handrail into the water, but there always seemed to be someone sitting right next to it, usually reading a book or lounging on a lilo, stopping people getting in and out. No idea why lifeguard didn’t tell them to move.
We were woken most nights by obnoxiously loud guests, who talked/shouted/cackled/slammed doors, in the early hours, after coming back from nearby bars, with no respect or consideration shown to other guests in their beds. I don’t mind anyone having fun, but I do wish guests would respectful of their surroundings, this is a family hotel with young kids after all.
There was no lifeguard on duty at all for entirety of 09.09.26 - another breach of regulations! ALL hotel pools must have a lifeguard on duty.
He seemed to go missing an awful lot when he was supposed to be on duty, and was frequently seen sat scrolling on his phone.
We had a cockroach in our room! Had it been discovered on our first night, not our last, I wouldn’t have stayed one night! Also found a cockroach ambling along the corridor on the 4th floor (hubby whacked it with slippery floor sign). I expect to see cockroaches outside NOT inside!
Not suitable for wheelchair users at all - the disabled ramp from reception to lift, is far too steep for anyone to safely navigate in a wheelchair.
A good number of sunbeds were broken and some guests had taken cushions from other sunbeds to make them comfortable and usable, only for the lifeguard to insist on them being returned.
Room was VERY compact! They’d stuck a single chair/bed between bed and balcony doors, which was absolutely ridiculous. It wouldn’t go back flush against wall as impeded bedside shelf, and became a toe-stubbing ‘ornament’.
There is no room, in those particular rooms, for this piece of furniture and I would hate to see how cramped the room would be, if the chair/bed was being used in bed-mode.
No table on balcony, 2 old plastic chairs only - couldn’t sit out and play cards for first time ever. This is basic stuff!
Balcony door didn’t lock, reported first morning and nothing was done for entirety of stay!
Signs in outdoor dining area and pool bar asking guests not to feed the cats as they feed them a ‘special diet’. From past experience and from my own observations, there is no ‘special diet’ and no feeding regime either! Only 1 of the cats in/around hotel has been neutered (adorable, friendly fur baby). If the hotel ‘cares’ so much for cat welfare, they should be engaging with municipality and local charitable organisations to TNR cats on site (who keep rat population under control BTW) to put a stop to uncontrollable breeding, which is cruel and irresponsible.
In conclusion, the only positives of this holiday were the staff!
The lady at the pool bar was on her own all day and bless her, she never stopped, she was constantly on the go from shutter up to shutter down. Staff in restaurant were always polite and helpful and the animation team were excellent….loved aqua gym and pool conga!
We loved Pernera, much quieter than Protaras which is only €2 on local bus. We’d definitely return to the resort, but wouldn’t consider a return to Toxotis Hotel. It’s not a 3* property, and I’m not sure it even reaches 2* standard, to be brutally honest.
First time in Cyprus and cracking little hotel, great choice of food wonderfully presented, very clean and tidy, staff unbelievably friendly and helpful, nice little bar at the pool, and outside restaurant does snacks in the afternoon and an Italian à la carte in the evening, which you have to book for, but the food was delicious, entertainment in the evening is ok, but during the day the girls work their socks off, aqua aerobics etc, nice little kids play are with water slides, but there are a few little things that need addressing, nothing major, things that could be done in a week or2, music is far to loud around the pool, and not very varied choice either, the edges around the pool need some attention, few little sharp edges and loose tiles, easily fixed, couple of drain covers and steps broken, shower cubicle is far to small, water goes all over the floor, not enough sunbeds and to many 4 poster beds, which only about half were used and that’s because not enough sunbeds, get rid of most of the 4 poster and could easily get another 30 or 40 sunbeds. again, easily fixed. But all in all it’s not a bad hotel. Well worth a visit.
We came for a short stay in September, all staff were really friendly and helpful. You want for absolutely nothing whilst your there, always fresh food on the go, your served your drinks during lunch, snack and dinner time rather than going up and getting it yourself. The rooms were immaculate and cleaned daily which we didn't expect as we were only there for 3 nights but room was cleaned everyday. Nice to have a hotel that keeps inflateables that have been left instead of binning them so there's plenty of pool bits for people to use. Suncream and books by the bar pool for anyone to use. Location is brillaint, right near loads of bars, shops and pharmacy. Lifeguard was brilliant, picking up everyone's empty cups and talking to everyone. Entertainment team was out a few times a day doing pool activities with everyone. Would highly recommend to anyone and will definitely be booking again.
First of all I want tk day that not everything is bad and for the price we paid it wasnt terrible, but we will definitely not return. The good points - water slides were perfect for our 4 year old. It takes 10-15min wall to get to the beach which is lovely. There is a bus stop right outside which gets you to nearby resorts. The food is ok, but gets very same-y after a few days. It was edible and the gyros at lunch is great. However, the bad points are too significant for us and therefore we wouldn't recommend the place. First it is very very dirty. The cleaners go in every day, but they dont clean properly. The sink and the shower did not get cleaned at all during our 10 night stay. There were also peanuts and crackers under the beds and we did not consume any food in the room, meaning the room wasnt even cleaned properly when previous guests vacated. Also the room was very outdated and did not maych the photos on the website - we booked with OntheBeach but photos kn other travel companies were the same. When we queried this with reception we were told all rooms are the same and they are only different in size. We then met some people and happened to view their room and it was refurbished and bigger than ours. They just didn't want to move us. And considering we had a young child it wasnt ideal to have a dirty room. The room actually looked like it was an add-on room. It didn't even have a proper room number, instead it was a paper stuck with cellotape, perhaps it is an old staff room or a room that they use only when busy - no idea. There was no ventilation in the bathroom and you couldn't open the bathroom window, so just "great"!! Bed sheets and towels are being changed but they are so old and stained that look dirty even if washed. They must have been a few years old towels. Every day we had towels with stains on them and some even ripped. I have never seen this anywhere else. The whole hotel is dirty apart from the restaurant and reception which seem to have been renovated, the rest is dirty and cockroaches are runing around especially at night, outside, inside, everywhere. While I get that outside it may be out of their control, having them indoors is unacceptable, there are PEST control measures that can be put in place. Now regarding the staff, the restaurant managers are very nice to guests but extremely rude to staff. The servers and the bar staff are being rushed all the time and treated so badly it creates a bad atmosphere when yiu are witnessing this. At least 3 staff quit while we were there and we only stayed for 10 days and others were saying they are very close to leaving as well. It is one thing to ensure staff are productive and a completely separate thing to treat them badly and rushing them all the time. The hotel manager only comes to eat and doesn't seem to be interested in the actual operation of this hotel. It would be an idea if he checked how well the hotel is being cleaned, get a pest control company and maybe spend some money on new towels and bed sheets. Overall very disappointed. If it wasnt for the water slides and the distance to the beach it would have been an awful stay. We made the most out of it and if you come prepared and haven't paid a lot for it, you may have an ok time. But we wouldnt recommend.
Jet 2 Holidays state 'package Holidays you can trust'! Well we arrived in Larnaca with Jet 2 only to be transferred to the Toxotis Hotel by bus shortly after midnight with a Jet 2 rep advising everyone the hotels we would be stopping at - all seemed ok at this point. However on arrival at the hotel along with three other couples (two of whom had young children) c 0045hrs this morning we were met by a staff member outside to advise us that there was an issue with water and electricity in some of the rooms and we were transferred by taxi to another nearby apartment complex. On arrival at that complex we were given an apartment which isn't anywhere close to the standard of the hotel we had booked
