Toxotis Hotel Apartments

We have just returned from a week long stay at the Toxotis Hotel in Pernera. The location of the hotel is great, you are within walking distance to some bars, restaurants and shops and the beaches are about a 15 minute walk away. Buses and taxis are also easy to use if you want to go further afield.

The hotel itself is situated in a quiet location, our bus dropped us off right outside of reception so no long walk to check in. Check in was fast and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel reception area is a nice place to sit but it is lacking any atmosphere and the place is a bit basic to be honest.

We easily found our rooms and had 2 rooms for the 4 of us. Again they are basic and we found them quite small for 3 of us. We did have space for clothing and hangers in the wardrobe which was a bonus. The beds are very hard and uncomfortable so be ready for this when you arrive!

We did find the air con and safe as no extra charge really helpful and also the wi-fi is free too and worked perfectly fine in our room. These things are great as in other hotels we’ve had to pay for them.

Some real positives about this hotel but sadly there are many negatives. We found the cleanliness to be lacking not only in our rooms but the communal areas too. Starting with our room we had dead spiders behind our Daughters bed when we arrived along with layers of dust and sticky residue around the room, our room was overlooking a dumpster and the bins that were tipped onto their side. There was a foul smell in the room and hotel corridors. Although cockroaches are common abroad, there were many that stayed in the corridors even after days of cleaning. The floors and doors were sticky and dirty. Our bedsheets had holes in them and the sheets were not cleaned the whole week we were there.

Although the cleaners do work many hours and I can imagine they are worked hard we sadly had to ask a lot of times for clean towels after they were taken and not replenished. The cleaner came into our room one day when we were getting dressed. The hotel would really benefit from some do not disturb door cards.

The food was either in the one buffet restaurant or you could get some food from a set menu at the pool bar - this was out of stock or some items sadly but they we’re accommodating to making our Daughter plain pasta as they had no chicken nuggets. The only snack available is ice cream and you’re lucky if you get any flavour other than vanilla. We tried so many times for the other flavour only to be told no! You can imagine how that goes down with the children and when you’ve promised lots of ice cream! The buffet is adequate but repetitive. They have themed nights but we struggled to find food to eat most nights. The desserts are often taken quickly and not replenished meaning you miss out. Breakfast is the same each day!

The drinks are awful! You order to your table at the buffet but it’s hard to reorder once you run out of a drink! The servings are small and often the fizzy is flat. At the small pool side bar customer service is invisible! The lady there used a cup to catch the drips from the pump and then topped it up serving it to the next person - after the 3rd day my Husband called it the slops drink and then refused to drink from there due to this. It’s the only all inclusive in Cyprus we’ve been to where they don’t serve Keo!

Also be ready to be turned away from the pool bar restaurant if you only want a place to have a drink - that’s not allowed there unless you order from the very limited menu!

The pool is a decent size and to be fair the water was clean, sadly other guests let it down with their rubbish drifting into the pool and our last day the pool was quite dirty. The area around the pool is very slippery with cracked tiles, we witnessed on average of 3 people a day falling over. There is a no diving sign up which we completely understand as the pool is 1.4 metres but there is also a rule that no one jumps in the pool with children being shouted at, as you can imagine this was upsetting and took the fun out of being by the pool. Also good luck getting a sun bed - and when you do they will probably be broken, along with the umbrellas!

We witnessed many people complain about the same things sadly. Overall we made the best out of it, however, we did find ourselves eating out a lot and buying snacks and drinks at the supermarket. It is a basic base but sadly lots of areas are lacking in basic provisions for the all inclusive offering.

Conveniently located close to a few bars , shops and restaurants. Room was clean and comfortable. Decent bathroom but on the small side. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Food was well presented and tasty . Drinks were waiter service and very prompt service throughout . This is a hotel well suited to families with children particularly enjoying the water slides and pool area . On the whole a good value well run 3 star hotel with a lovely poolside area and bar . The hotel more than met my families expectations. Rooms are on the small side and this may need to be considered if you are booking and going with older children.

Check in:

We got to the hotel around 1:30am and were welcomed by a member of staff who checked us in very quickly, explained about meals etc and provided us with a sandwich. Check in was great, can’t complain. Check out is at 12pm.

Room:

We were in room 418 and overlooked the pool area, it was a lovely room and kept very clean by the cleaners. Our room was cleaned every day and they always provided clean towels and bedding, the cleaners were also always very welcoming. The only thing I’d say would be helpful cleaner wise is having a “do not disturb” hanger for the door as none of the rooms had these. We were provided with coat hangers, plenty of space for clothes, a tv, kettle with tea and coffee, a bottle of water and the safe is free! We also didn’t find the beds to be uncomfortable as people have previously mentioned in their reviews and didn’t get any funny smells! The bathroom could have done with being slightly bigger but other than that we have no complaints about the room.

Food:

Breakfast was 7am-10am and they served the same things every day: full English, toast with jam etc if wanted, croissants, cake, the list goes on.

Dinner was 1pm-2:30pm and they served foods such as chips, nuggets, pasta, pizza, gyros, different meats, veg and much more. As a pickier eater I lived off chips and pizza etc for the 10 days but my boyfriend loved trying the different meats and foods they had to offer.

Snacks at the sit down pool bar were available from 3-5pm and provided foods such as burgers, hotdogs, sandwiches, chips, ice cream. Ice creams were available throughout the day at the main pool bar however with very limited availability, they only ended up with banana a lot of the time.

Tea was from 6:30pm-9pm and was a different theme each evening. They however always served chips, nuggets etc for the kids/picker eaters! The deserts weren’t the best, I think I managed to find one the whole time I was there.

The waiters were lovely, always so nice and welcoming and were very quick to collect dirty plates and glasses! Sami was always quick to get you a drink and knew our order without us having to say anything. Thank you to you all for a lovely experience in the restaurant.

Pool area:

The area around the pool was always kept nice and clean however could get very slippy walking around. Inside the pool could definitely do with a clean as there was sand and dirty floating around the bottom. You were allowed floats in the pool however they also allowed balls meaning you got hit a lot both inside the pool and whilst you were lying on the sunbed which gradually became very annoying when it was every day and of course the majority of people didn’t apologise! You can have bottles filled up at the pool bar but only with water however, you can keep going to get cups of coke etc whenever. There’s always music playing around the pool and the entertainers always created a busy day with morning yoga, aqua gym, the kids club, water polo, uno tournaments and beer pong etc. There were some days you could go down to the pool at 9am and there would still be plenty of beds but some days you would walk out at 7:30 and the majority would be taken so was a bit hit and miss.

Evening entertainment:

The entertainers always started the evening at 8pm with a mini disco for the children then at 9pm put things on such as bingo, karaoke, a violinist and a dance group. The entertainment finished at 10pm but the bar stayed open until 11pm.

Surrounding area:

There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops surrounding the area of the hotel and there are 2 beaches within about a 10 min walking distance. There are bus stops right outside the hotel which can take you to Protaras, Ayia Napa, The waterpark etc and only costs €2 for one way. We got the bus everywhere and reckon we saved a lot of euros by doing so.

Over all:

I do feel like you get what you pay for, you’re coming to a 3 star hotel so expect a 3 star experience. Staff were all lovely, can’t fault any of them! We enjoyed our 10 night stay at this hotel, thank you.
