Adams Beach Hotel

The hotel looks great from the outside and on first impression it was nice, staff at reception were polite, was able to park my car in the hotel car park and everything seemed relaxing, we did arrive at 11pm.

Room seemed great but the problems started from there, curtains didn’t close fully and outside light was shining in, waking up in the morning and no black out curtains so the room was bright from sunrise, we paid for a room with a sea view, we got a small sea view but mainly looked at the car park full of taxis. The room was below par for a 5 star hotel, mould in the bathroom, the clothes iron was covered in a melted plastic, I took this to reception where it was swapped or cleaned, but this should be checked before rooms are handed out to guests. We stayed for 9 nights and in this time our balcony was never cleaned, the sliding door didn’t have a handle on the outside so wasn’t easy to open. The hotel didn’t have a quiet time which most hotels have from 11pm till 7am so you can respect guests that are sleeping, we had noisy guests most nights, we called reception to deal with this most mornings around 1/1:30am when the hotel bars closed.

Breakfast was like a feeding time at the zoo, plates and glasses being smashed due to unsupervised kids running around, guests picking up food from the buffet with their hands and putting it back in the trays. The staff had no control over any of this! I did feel sorry for them as it is not their fault they had such rude guests. We tried the adults only breakfast area, this was a little calmer but the food became repetitive, nothing really changed.

Pool area was mayhem, if you want a bed by the main pools you need to be awake before 9am to get a bed, the hotel states that you can’t reserve beds, but again no staff to even police this. So beds are reserved by any item that people find in their bags, even nappies! The pool areas are never cleaned at night or early in the morning, most five stars remove all beds and give the pools areas a good clean before the guests wake up but not here, the pools are full of hair and you cannot have a relaxing swim without rude guests crashing into you. On our second day we witnessed guests fighting in the darts area, no security present so it was stopped by guests and life guards! That evening we went to reception to put our concerns forward, the on duty manager was a waste of time, he told us the guest were asked to leave and they added extra security, I mentioned that guests were drinking alcohol and eating their own items around the pool which could fuel this as a bar will normally stop drunk people from drinking, his response was that the staff are trained in conflict and a lot of people doing this are from the Middle East and that they are at war so they don’t have a lot of money…….. this was the worst reply I could of been given, 1. If you are trained in conflict you fix the issue and don’t just ignore it, 2nd if they are that poor why are they staying in a ‘5 star hotel’. The adults pool area had less people, I would recommend to go here if you have no children with you, but again, around the pool area it is never cleaned. I asked the lifeguard if there were any cleaning equipment near by as our beds had melted chocolate on the floor, he replied “that’s not my job and I will speak to housekeeping”, I waited 20 minutes and no one turned up so I went to the bathroom and got some toilet paper to clean this up, housekeeping never turned up!

The car park can be a nightmare in the day, the hotel have no one checking for people parking in the day that are not guests, so it can get rather full.

We visited the glasshouse, victory bar and the piano lounge, glasshouse is great for evening cocktails and a sunset view. Victory bar was empty but got filled up by guests not drinking and their kids running around the place, just so they could watch the football, they persuaded the bartender to put the football match they wanted on, no care of what the paying customers wanted so we left. The piano lounge bar was under staffed at times, we went there for a drink before a wedding and only one women was on the bar with around 50 guests trying to get a drink, I went to reception to ask for them to call for help for her, the lady at reception said that “it wasn’t her job and the bar tender would need to call someone”, I told her you are reception I’m sure you can help her she is very busy, her reply was “it isn’t my job sir!”

After our stay we checked out and were asked how our stay was, I replied don’t ask, which reception didn’t like, he explained it was his job to ask, so I then told him about all our issues how that no one dealt with them properly, I was asked to speak to the on duty manager but I just wanted to leave, he gave me the general managers card, I will be sending them an email but I have seen from previous reviews they are just ignored.

I feel like the recent reviews on here regarding the hotels issues are all valid so I won’t keep repeating them. The staff did keep asking us to report any concerns throughout our 9 day stay, but who wants to keep doing that when you are on holiday, moaning is not what you want to do. We did speak to them after the perceived atmosphere around the family pool became real and we watched a physical fight between men, witnessed by lots of children. The staff did listen to our concerns, that for the first 48 hours we felt that we were only able to fully relax when we were outside of the hotel, so we were actually avoiding the hotel that we had paid a premium for. It did feel like more security and cleaners were present during the following days, and when I rang at 1:30am regarding noise the reception staff and security responded very professionally and quickly. We were told from check in that we could use the adult only side for breakfast and the pool area, so staff are fully aware of how the family side is and that it is far from relaxing, however, I would be extra annoyed if I had paid for the adult wing and found out that some people didn’t. We used the adult side on some days and even though there was no one at the pool bar and on average 4 staff, a QR order from the sun lounger for 1 coffee could take 30 minutes. We have stayed at some hotels where the pool bars are absolutely heaving with people and they managed to serve quicker and with a smile. We found someone else’s slipper under our room chair, so rooms are not cleaned effectively between guest stays. Our balcony was never cleaned. First thing in the mornings we found the pool area floors to be already dirty, but even lower star hotels jet wash the floors last thing at night. I feel like the owners of this hotel have become greedy with booking as many guests in as possible, rather than wanting to prioritise their 5 star reputation. We have travelled the world and are more then happy to stay in places ranging from hostels right through all of the star ratings, however, I feel like this hotel is overcharging for what it currently is, and somewhere along the way, the budget to maintain, clean and manage this hotel is not being managed effectively and for now it surely shows.
