Club Dubrovnik Sunny Hotel

Lovely staff xlnt food and drink and beautiful location. A 20 min bus ride takes you to the old town wirh ease, buses every 15 mins. Thank you so much for a great holiday. The hotel is immaculate.

We got this hotel as part of a package with Jet2holidays. For the price of 12 nights from the north of England vs the value we got out of it was average. I could also go to say that it was a tad overpriced, which I would assume this is a Jet2 issue.

The scenery is pretty. The pool is nice, it is not sea water, and the restrooms are also clean. The room is nice and decorated modern and the cleaners are welcome and good at tidying up and cleaning. They are also very accommodating with cleaning requests. The highlight of our stay was Maro World, since we have a toddler we got to keep occupied at all times. Maro World was included in our all inclusive price and we certainly made the most out of it every day. There is a Maro club where you can leave your toddler all day, the people working there can also come babisit at your hotel room if you want to go out without your toddler, you just have to discuss dates and times with them. There are trampolines, games, a ball pit, videogames room, drawing room, and a Maro theatre that has kids disco and theatre and disney movies. Saying that, there is some staff there in the Maro club that were on their phone and were not paying attention or engaging with the kids they had under their supervision, so maro club was a hit and miss depending on the staff.

Food wise, could be improved. If I had paid less for the package, my expectations would have been lower and the food would have been "you-get-what-you-pay-for".If you have a toddler and don't want to think about food, it has a lot of beige food they can eat - pizza, fried chicken and fish, chips (only at dinner) and pasta. Salad is ok, it has greens and also pasta salads to choose from. Stews are nice and heartwarming. The kitchen outside does really good grilled fish, everything else seems to be either overcooked (usually meats) or undercooked (veg). The risotto has been undercooked all 2 weeks we were there and it was really disappointing. Also the food is either seasoned a lot or bland. Pizza is nice, thin base napolitana style. Cakes are a bit underwhelming, first day the rice pudding was completely undercooked but it got saved on other days (somehoe the chocolate rice pudding is cooked better). It is, however, disappointing that there is no yoghurt for lunch and dinner as an alternative to desserts for the kids. And the yoghurt in breakfast is runny like a yoghurt drink, a more watery lassi. There is a supermarket down the road that sells greek yoghurt and we bought in bulk as we avoid sugar for our toddler, especially at dinner. I understand that it is near the end of the season, a bit more attention to detail would make it all better and a more justified price for the packages advertised.

Sunny by Valamar is a lovely place to stay, we are currently here with our 21 month old. It’s classed as 3 star but I’d say it would be a 4 if it wasn’t for the rooms.

The hotel itself is lovely and so are all of the staff both around the hotel and in the restaurants.

The food selection is great, with a selection of meats and fish, as well as pizza and pastas for little people or fussy eaters. The snacks are usually sandwiches and burger/fries!

Cocktails are nice, if you like an Aperol, ask with lemonade - it’s a bit too sour tasting otherwise.

Location wise it’s perfect, they have access with slopes and lifts to areas! The beach is a short walk but the best compared to the other Valamar hotels.

The pool has two slide which little ones love, they go into a toddler pool and then there’s a larger one. The beach is lovely - we just sat on towels as we didn’t feel we needed to pay for the Sun beds. Pool towels are 2 euros each, you can keep all week or replace (2 euros to replace each towel at a time.

The maro world is amazing and the whole area for children is incredible. It’s so family friendly.

A bus a short walk away, to old town. Bus number 6, last stop on there. To return get a ticket at the kiosk in town or you’ll be waiting for no reason. It’s about 15/20 minutes.

Old town is beautiful and areas that are pushchair friendly. Some have steps but as with a little one you accept you won’t be doing too much exploring unless you have a carrier.

The rooms, this would be the one thing that not necessarily let’s it down but they do need a little TLC - the cupboard have a funky smell and could be painted and doors changed to give a more premium feel. Plus a hard floor, it’s currently carpeted. We haven’t put our clothes in there purely so they don’t smell. If these were renovated I think this would make the hotel exceed and really uplift it. Everywhere else is lovely though. We are travelling with a baby as mentioned so a basic room is fine for us, but if you are looking for a luxury room it’s not at this hotel (maybe one of the sister ones).

Overall it’s a very family friendly setting with high chairs, disposable bibs and friendly staff.

Recommend a superior room if travelling with a baby or toddler purely for the extra room as they can seem small otherwise.

If you need a cot bed its an additional €5 a night!
