Tamarind Bay

Located in the West Indies and on one of Grenada’s smaller surrounding islands, Tamarind Bay offers sweeping (and unrivaled) views of the Caribbean Sea. Whether you’re hoping to get active and enjoy some water sports in crystal, turquoise waters or relax on white sandy beaches underneath shady palm trees, Tamarind Bay is an excellent choice for your next getaway.

When to go

In terms of weather, the best time to visit Tamarind Bay in particular and Grenada in general is between January and May, when rainfall is at its lowest. Of course, given its tropical location, the climate is always wonderfully hot with cooling winds and an average high of 29°C.

The area is most lively in July and August (no doubt coinciding with Summer Holidays) and most quiet in September. If you’re hoping to strike a balance between the two, we recommend visiting in June or July.

Top Attractions

Bearing in mind that the whole of Grenada is only as large as the Isle of Wight, Tamarind Bay is a destination for those hoping to relax rather than sightsee. But, the south-west corner of the island is home to Tamarind Bay, Mourne Rouge and the capital, St. Georges, which means a number of activities and adventures are close by.

Highlights include a drive (or walk) through St. Georges, a quaint and colourful town with Georgian buildings. If you’re willing to brave a steep climb, you can check out the island from a different vantage point at Fort George, a historic 18th-century French fortress with both harbor and city views.

Beaches

There are two beaches within 500m of one another, both of which are breathtaking with soft white sand.

Pink Gin Beach is accessible primarily by boat but is great for swimming with boulders several yards out to break the currents and waves.

Not far away you’ll find Magazine Beach, a popular (but not crowded) beach for both tourists and locals. Whether you’re looking for a yummy seafood lunch or an opportunity to snorkel, this is a must-visit.

Dining

If eating coconut cake or fresh seafood with your toes in the sand while listening to live music sounds appealing, check out Aquarium, located on Magazine Beach. Other restaurants in the area include Denya’s Tasty Foods where you’ll find (tasty) Caribbean cuisine and Laluna, where you can enjoy risotto and ravioli with a view.

Entertainment

A holiday to Tamarind Bay is inherently laid-back. While you can enjoy a nice cocktail at Aquarium, nightlife is limited unless you’re willing to travel around the island. Instead, pack a cooler and bring your own drinks to the beach for a romantic evening on this sleepy Caribbean island.

Culture

French and African cultures collide in Grenada which you’ll see quite clearly while visiting St. Georges.

To experience the country’s history first hand, make sure you visit the second week of August for Carnival, a celebration of the emancipation of slaves with live music, pageants, and parades.

Adventure and Sports

If you’re looking for a unique experience you can’t get at home, you’re in luck! The water here is perfect for watersports including scuba diving and snorkeling as well as kayaking and pedal boating. Local operators also offer deep-sea fishing trips or you could charter your own boat to explore Grenada!

Getting around Grenada is easy with taxis and the airport is very close by, under 10 km from the capital.
