Savannah Beach Club

My husband and I stayed at Savannah Beach Hotel, situated opposite the Garrison Savannah Racecourse. It’s a great location for getting to the local beaches, Bridgetown, St Lawrence Gap and the airport, making it a really convenient base for exploring Barbados. We stayed for 14 nights to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary, and what a wonderful time we had! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed at reception. There was quite a lot of information to take in on arrival and, after a long flight and with jet lag, I have to admit very little of it actually went in! We were told there was a QR code in our room where we could access all the information at our leisure. Unfortunately, ours didn’t work, although we didn’t report it, something we should have done!

As we visited at the end of August and beginning of September, the hotel was relatively quiet, which we actually loved. It meant we got to meet lots of lovely people and, best of all, there was absolutely no need to get up at the crack of dawn to secure a sunbed!

Our room was immaculate and cleaned to an exceptionally high standard every single day.

The wildlife and character -One of the things we loved most about Savannah was the wildlife and the character of the hotel.

On our first morning, we woke early to find the green monkeys sitting on the roof of Chopstix before deciding to come and say hello! The hens and cockerels happily wandered around the pool area and clearly have a taste for cocktails too if you happened to leave one unattended on a table! Then there was Savannah the cat, who loved popping in to see us, and of course the incredible turtles.

We were incredibly honoured to witness a turtle laying her eggs during our stay, and we also saw many baby turtle’s hatch. It was wonderful to see the involvement of the hotel staff, the turtle sanctuary and visitors, all working together to keep an eye on the hatchlings and carefully getting them into the bucket so they had the best possible chance of making it safely into the sea. It was genuinely very special to witness and something we will remember for a long time.

The pool is beautifully situated in the centre of the hotel grounds and runs like a lovely lazy river. To the left is a smaller pool with a pool bar, accessible to everyone. The main pool is only around 1.3 metres deep, making it a lovely area to relax, cool off and have a bit of fun. The grounds staff work incredibly hard to keep everything clean, tidy and looking lovely.

A few things to be aware of! Mosquitoes were probably the bane of our lives during the holiday! They were certainly persistent, but a trip to the supermarket for supplies helped, and the hotel also offered a room-spraying service for guests who were struggling.

Because of the quieter season, meals were served at Drifters throughout most of our stay rather than Rachel’s Restaurant or Chopstix. This was a little disappointing, although it certainly didn’t spoil our holiday. We did miss out on experiencing Rachel’s as this was offered on a Friday evening and, unfortunately, we weren’t aware of this on the first Friday. On the second Friday, we had already made plans to visit Oistins.

The food at Drifters was varied and freshly prepared, with something for everyone. Breakfast offered cereals, fresh fruit and all the usual favourites – bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs and pastries – as well as fresh omelettes and fried eggs cooked to order.

Lunch and dinner also provided plenty of choice. We particularly loved the BBQ on the beach and, of course, Chopstix.

The staff A huge thank you to the majority of the staff working throughout the hotel, who made our stay extra special with their warm, friendly and helpful nature. There are so many people who deserve a mention, but special thanks to: Rodger, Beverley, Gaby, Tiffnay, Omari, T'Shanni, Quinnel, Jiobana, Shaniece, Miquel, Analis and Richard. You all helped make our 14-night stay so enjoyable and memorable, and we really appreciated the smiles, conversations and kindness throughout our holiday.

Entertainment The entertainment team, particularly Ramon, did a great job of providing a variety of live singers and DJs during our stay especially as there were very few of us and a very mixed age group to cater for. Our personal favourite was DJ Radar, especially if you enjoy requesting music! Apparently, he has the largest hard drive on the island!

Ramon, thank you for always being so upbeat and enthusiastic. From quizzes and bingo to working us hard with aqua aerobics and pool basketball, you certainly kept us entertained, even if our competitive streak resulted in both of us losing skin off our feet!

PLEASE SAVE THE BEACH The beach is sadly the one major area that lets this hotel down – and this is absolutely no fault of the hotel or its staff. Storm Beryl has clearly taken a devastating toll on this stretch of coastline. What was once a beautiful beachfront is now desperately lacking the beach area and space to relax that holidaymakers would naturally expect from a beach hotel. The beach can also be difficult to get in and out of safely, and even during our two-week stay we watched another tree being washed away.

This is why we really hope the Barbados Government will recognise how important this area is and provide the help and investment needed to restore and protect it. This isn’t simply about tourists having somewhere to put a sunbed. It is about protecting a beautiful natural environment, supporting tourism and, importantly, protecting the turtles who rely on this coastline as their natural habitat. Savannah Beach Hotel has so much to offer, and it would be heartbreaking to see this beautiful part of the island continue to disappear. Please don’t let this beach be lost.

Sargassum was also an issue across many beaches during our stay, so this certainly wasn’t unique to Savannah.

If having a traditional beach is important to you, the hotel provides a shuttle service to Carlisle Beach three times a week. You can also walk to Sugar Bay Beach, Pebbles Beach and Carlisle Beach, all of which are beautiful with their soft sand, turquoise sea and beach bars.

We particularly loved Pebbles Beach, where early risers can even see the racehorses enjoying the turquoise sea from around 5.30am.

Our final thoughts Savannah Beach Hotel gave us the perfect setting for celebrating 25 years of marriage, and returning to Barbados after 27 years was incredibly special. The island has captured our hearts once again – the stunning sunrises and sunsets, turquoise seas, soft sand, amazing wildlife, wonderful food, rum, music and, above all, the genuinely warm and friendly people who make you feel so welcome. Barbados captured our hearts in 1999 and, in 2026, you have done it all over again. Thank you, Savannah Beach Hotel and the people we met, for being part of our very special anniversary memories.

We truly hope we can return one day and see this beautiful beach restored and protected for future generations and for the turtles.

This was our second visit to Savanna Beach Hotel , on arrival our room wasn't ready so we waited in reception, usually you are offered a welcome drink but no , the lady on reception seemed a little grumpy, a tiny thing I know . Our room was lovely massive bed , room serviced every day and towels replenished all lovely . It was quiet at the hotel as it’s out of season and the restaurants were all combined at the beach one , food was usually nice and sometimes very nice , Rachel’s and chopsticks were good , and lunch bbq on the beach was tasty . Most of the staff were friendly with the odd feisty lady 🫣. The hotel beach has been depleted badly since our previous visit, this is a shame as the turtles have lost some of their nesting sites due to the steep banking , there are other good beaches in the local vicinity you can walk too . Hopefully the government will see fit to protect this beach in the very near future , for both the public and the turtles. On the whole we had a good holiday and met lots of lovely travelers x

The hotel is located in the Garrison area very close to the Horse race course, with bus stops a little down the road. All the staff we had dealings with were welcoming, friendly and professional. We had a king courtyard view room (the bed was massive) which was clean and tidy and was made up daily by the house keeping staff.
Although we knew about the lack of beach it was still disappointing to see how much it had eroded. This is not the fault of the hotel. The hotel had moved the sunbeds a bit further down. We went next door to the Sugar Bay Hotel and used their beach for swimming and snorkelling. We gather the beach was washed away during hurricane Beryl in 2024. The beaches in Barbados are all public beaches and not owned by the hotels. The beaches just outside the Savannah are a very important nesting area for the endangered Hawksbill Turtle. It would be nice if the government could put in sea calming measures to allow the beach to recover for both turtles and tourists.
Overall we had a lovely relaxing stay on the all inclusive option and would go again.
