Lovely hotel, but unfortunately the buffet food let it down
We really enjoyed our stay overall, and the hotel itself has a lot going for it. It’s only a short taxi ride from both Soho Square and Naama Bay, which was perfect for us as we like to get out and about.
Our room was absolutely lovely — clean, comfortable and with very comfy beds. The only issue we had was with the shower. Regardless of which setting we used, the water basically just poured out like a tap, meaning water ended up all over the bathroom floor.
The staff were fantastic throughout our stay and genuinely couldn’t do enough for us. Our cleaner was absolutely lovely and always so friendly. We also really enjoyed the aqua gym and the afternoon dances, and the animation team were very friendly and welcoming.
Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment for us this time was the buffet food. There was a lady walking around the pool asking guests for feedback, and we mentioned that we felt the buffet food had gone downhill compared with our previous visits. She explained that the hotel caters for numerous different nationalities and not just English guests who apparently like “fast food”, which we found quite an interesting response. We certainly weren’t expecting fast food — we were simply expecting buffet food that we could actually enjoy and stomach.
The snack bar during the day was lovely, and the pizzas in particular were gorgeous. However, we found the evening buffet particularly disappointing. On most nights, we ended up going to eat out.
This was our fourth visit to the hotel, but unfortunately it will probably be our last. We genuinely feel that it is specifically the buffet food that has gone downhill compared with our previous visits. Even the drinks didn’t taste as nice as they used to.
Overall, it is a lovely hotel with genuinely friendly and helpful staff, and we still enjoyed many aspects of our stay. However, for us personally, the buffet food and the drinks really let the hotel down this time, which is a shame considering how much we have enjoyed our previous visits.
We are currently staying here and think its brilliant! The staff are great amd really kind and do a great job at lookong after you! If you're good to them, they are good to you! Entertainment is great. Food options and choices are great. Swimming pool os lovely and big and not to busy even though its a full hotel! We are not normally people who complain, and as a family we have travelled extensively, so unfortunately this review reflects just how disappointing our two-week holiday at Jaz Neo Sharks Bay was.
From the moment we arrived, things were not as we had expected. We arrived late at night and, once we got into our room, it was immediately clear that it had not been properly cleaned. There were still open packets of crisps left in the cupboards, and generally the room did not give the impression that it had been properly prepared for new guests. After travelling for hours and arriving late at night, this was not the welcome we were hoping for.
The food was another disappointment. We completely appreciate that we were in Egypt and that the food would naturally be different from what we are used to at home. However, there was very little variety for children. Surely providing some basic children's options, such as chicken nuggets and other simple foods, would not be particularly difficult. With so many families staying at the resort, we expected considerably more consideration for younger guests.
Unfortunately, there was also very little for children to actually do. The main option was the swimming pool. Even then, if the children were splashing around and enjoying themselves, one lady complained, and the response was to remove the nets, which left everyone else with even less to do. We found this extremely disappointing, particularly given how many families were staying at the hotel.
The entertainment was another major let-down. The entertainment team were barely around, and the activities seemed very limited to things such as water polo and darts. Amir was fantastic whenever he was there and genuinely made an effort to get people involved, but without him there was very little happening. The girls on the team often appeared uninterested and unwilling to get involved, which made the overall atmosphere feel flat and boring.
The evening entertainment was held outside. Although we did see some good acts, we saw some of the same acts around four times during our two-week stay. There seemed to be very little variety, and after a while the evening entertainment became repetitive rather than something to look forward to.
Overall, we genuinely tried to make the most of our holiday and did not arrive expecting everything to be perfect. We understand that every country and every resort has its differences, and we are usually very easy-going when we travel. However, when you are paying for a two-week family holiday, you expect a reasonable standard of cleanliness, food choice, activities and entertainment.
Sadly, Jaz Neo Sharks Bay did not meet those expectations for us. The biggest disappointment was that the resort has so much potential, particularly as a family destination, but the lack of activities, limited children's food options and poor entertainment made the holiday feel much less enjoyable than it should have been.
We hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously, because with some improvements to the cleanliness, children's facilities, food choices and entertainment programme, the experience could be considerably better for future families
