- COMO Cocoa Island
Located in the opposite direction to the majority of resorts Cocoa Island occupies a quieter and more undisturbed area. Nestled among the South Male coral atolls; Cocoa Island is just a 40 minute speedboat transfer from the Male International airport. Perfect for diving; Guriadhoo Channel lies on Cocoa Islands very own doorstep and due to the lack of local sea traffic more pristine then what can be found North Male. This luxurious 5 star resort looks out towards calm cerulean waters. The island is long and thin - about 350 metres long - with sand snaking out into a perfect spit that disappears with the evening tide.
The natural landscape has not been interfered with and the island features palms; wild sea grapes and hibiscus. The house reef which encircles Cocoa Island by COMO delineates a gin-clear lagoon that is rich with sealife; including ray and baby sharks. It is a sea without currents making Cocoa Island an ideal choice for families.
The resort aesthetic is by Singaporean architect Cheong Yew Kuan. The style of Cocoa is deliberately restrained; a simple yet sophisticated mix of the contemporary and indigenous.
Each of these 33 rooms - sit offshore on the southern side of Cocoa; overhanging the lagoon. They are reached by planked walkways. Structures combine New Zealand pine with Kajan thatched roofs. Natural materials are carried through to the interiors with high raftered ceilings and glossy teak flooring.
The inside/outside space merges on the horizon-side with floor-to-ceiling glass windows opening up to a substantial deck for slipping in and out of the water. These same decks provide privacy for lounging in the sun or a place for quiet al fresco dining.
The islands serenity is reflected in the clean-lined and airy interiors combining whites and blues - more Hamptons beach hut than the usual rough-rustic aesthetic favoured by other Maldivian hotels.
The restaurant is called Ufaa meaning happy in Maldivian.

Sixth visit. Cocoa Island was our first island in the Maldives and remains one of my favorites among the approximately 35 we've been to.
Small, few and nice rooms, very quiet, good snorkeling, amazing beaches and a spectacular stretch of sand where you can walk 600 or 700 meters without seeing anyone, surrounded by warm water with amazing colors... not forgetting the excellent hydropool.
Less positive points, which I found worse than on previous visits: The menu varies very little and sometimes it's difficult to choose, especially for those who don't appreciate Asian food. The lagoon is full of seagrass and there's a lot of construction around the island.
A small disappointment, given the number of times we've been to the island, I expected a more significant room upgrade offer, especially since the island had an average of 5 or 6 rooms occupied during our stay.
In any case, the positives far outweigh the negatives and we plan to return.
One of the best resorts we have ever stayed in. Overwater accommodation, food, cocktails and friendly service from absolutely everyone was truly fantastic. We stayed for a week. Every meal (half board - breakfast and dinner) was delicious and with lots of variety. Marine team were excellent with the local knowledge for dolphin watching and snorkelling the house reefs - sharks / rays / turtles all resident and seen daily. Special shout out to Yuika the mixologist who created some great cocktails and Ilaria for finding those pods of dolphins. Truly memorable. Only downside is cost of some of the excursions and alcohol (to be expected though in this part of the world).
My family has been here many times! Had the absolute best diving holiday here! The dive sites are just incredible and super close to the resort—only a quick boat ride away, which means more time in the water. We were lucky enough to see so many pelagics, including sharks and rays Back on land, the accommodation was super comfy, and the food was delicious after long dive days. What truly made this trip unforgettable was the staff—they were beyond attentive, warm, and always went the extra mile. Can’t wait to come back!
I had a really good experience during my stay at the resort. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help, which made the whole stay even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was relaxing, and everything came together to make it a pleasant and memorable experience.
I am ashamed that it took me so long to write a review given the stupendous time that we had at Como Cocoa Island!
We traveled here to celebrate my 40th birthday and the staff at Como Cocoa Island went above and beyond to make me feel special! My stress levels plummeted - we were SO relaxed.
We traveled at the end of February and had some issues with our return flight being cancelled (going through DXB). As a result, we got a few more days at Como and got to stay in two different rooms. Our original booking was for Dhoni Loft Water Villa which we loved - I would actually say we almost preferred the Dhoni Water Villa a touch more. The seating/couch area was slightly more comfortable and it was nice to not have to go up and downstairs when you needed something from the exquisite bathroom downstairs. But both are AMAZING options with pristine views and top tier amenities.
We are divers so had the opportunity to spend time out on the water enjoying the beautiful coral reefs and dive sites around the island. There are 3 reefs on the actual island themselves and there is SO much wildlife to enjoy just by snorkeling from your room. We saw nudibranchs, octopus, sharks, turtles, squid just snorkeling. While diving, we even saw a WHALE SHARK which was incredible and a first for us. A big thank you to the entire dive squad that made our trip so special - Max, Ilaria, Sharky, Ali, Saitte, Nim and Mort. We also did the night snorkel and UV tour with Ilaria which was a very unique way to see the underwater world at night! She's so well informed and passionate, we would definitely recommend!
I would be remiss without mentioning the restaurant, chef and front of house staff as well. Every meal was excellent - they have theme nights but you can also order off of the regular menu. We were a little apprehensive that there was only one restaurant and that we may tire of the options but the menu is expansive and changes often for dinner. We enjoyed Chef Federico's Degustation Dinner for my birthday and he really knocks it out of the park. I can still taste the Culurgiones (smoked potato, pecorino sardo, goat cheese and dill oil ravioli)!
Hindra made our time in the restaurant extremely special - he made us laugh, gave us superb recommendations and shared experiences from his home in Bali that in turn made us feel right at home. We are grateful for our friendship and his hospitality! The whole restaurant staff (Binoy, Ravi, Blu, Michael, Photo, John, Anara, Saeed, Suman, Sulthan) made us feel so welcome and special!
Last, a very special thank you to Arta and her team including Wisam and Ibrihim for curating such a beautiful environment from the staff to the facilities and for making us feel extremely pampered. What could have been a rocky departure for us with a cancelled flight, they swooped right in and took the stress away from us by welcoming us for at least another night. There is such a unique, relaxed energy and aura on this island that makes you feel grateful for being able to have put your feet in the sand there. We can't wait to return! Thank you!
