The stay was very enjoyable and, until checkout, I had no complaints. Unfortunately, the way the hotel handled the tourist tax left a very disappointing and unnecessary final impression.
At checkout, I was unexpectedly advised that I had a €30 tourist tax to pay. I explained that, based on my understanding of the booking and the amount I had already paid, I believed this had been included. More importantly, the hotel’s own information displayed at reception clearly stated that the tourist tax is collected at check-in, not at check-out. I therefore found it particularly surprising that I was only informed of an additional charge when I was leaving.
This was also very different from my experience at the White Palace Lindos, where the €50 tourist tax was made absolutely clear on arrival and was collected at check-in, exactly as communicated. There was no ambiguity, no unexpected charge at the end of the stay and no need for an uncomfortable discussion at checkout.
Unfortunately, what I found most disappointing here was not the €30 itself, but the lack of clarity and the manner in which the issue was dealt with. The receptionist’s attitude came across as somewhat condescending when I queried the charge, which I felt was particularly inappropriate given that I was simply seeking clarification on something that appeared inconsistent with the hotel’s own stated procedure.
It is a real shame that an otherwise lovely stay was brought to such an unnecessarily sour conclusion. Hotels should be completely transparent about mandatory charges and ensure that their staff deal with legitimate queries courteously and professionally. In this instance, neither the communication nor the handling of the issue met the standard I would expect.
A disappointing end to what had otherwise been a very good stay.
Kalimera, I just want to say my wife and I had a really great stay in your hotel for our holiday. Your staff and their hard work is a credit to you and the Best Western. Nothing was too much trouble everyone was friendly, helpful and respectful. Unfortunately I did not get the names of the cleaners but the room was cleaned and we had clean bedding and towels everyday. Your restaurant was immaculate and clean, the food was delicious at breakfast and evening meal with plenty of variety and quantity. George, Martin, Manos, all the other young gentlemen and lady, whose names again unfortunately I did not get, were brilliant. They made a good holiday a great holiday in fact a great holiday a fantastic holiday and I cannot praise them enough. I just want to say efcharisto (Thank you) to my new friends. Especially for the Greek lessons. Information for other visitors, the hotel provides a kettle in the room with tea and coffee. A cool water drinking fountain is on every floor, for us this was a much needed asset. Pool towels are provided from the pool bar. The hotel is situated almost in the centre of Rhodes Town. Within walking distance to the harbour where you can book boat trips. The bus station, for trips down the east coast and the west coast. The Old Town and all that it has to offer. Beaches to the north east, north west and west. Not to forget the Catholic Church and the many shops. There will be many things I have not mentioned so please forgive me. In finishing I just want say Thank you.
The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable, the breakfast is good, and the location is perfect. Most of the staff are friendly and the housekeeping is excellent.
Unfortunately, our holiday was quite badly affected by the large groups of teenagers who seemed to take over much of the hotel during our stay. They ran through the hallways, shouted, played loud music, and constantly slammed doors. Especially in the evenings and at night, this caused a huge amount of disturbance.
We did get the impression that the hotel was actively trying to get the situation under control. Reception and security regularly spoke to the teenagers, and the staff seemed to be actively looking for solutions. After we reported the disturbance ourselves, we were also offered a different room. We accepted the move and went to another floor, but unfortunately it was exactly the same there. So, sadly, changing rooms did not help.
I have noticed that the hotel says in its replies to reviews that it has a "zero tolerance" policy and that it can sometimes be a little noisy because of the different types of guests. Of course, we understand that different kinds of guests stay at a hotel and that some noise is unavoidable. However, our experience went far beyond "occasional noise". It was happening every evening and every night.
For that reason, I think the hotel's "zero tolerance" policy should be taken with a grain of salt in this case. The hotel was clearly making an effort to speak to the teenagers and improve the situation, but there were very few noticeable consequences for their behaviour. As a result, the teenagers didn't seem to take the warnings seriously and the disturbance kept happening. At the same time, we did get the impression that the hotel was working on stricter rules and actively looking for solutions, which we appreciated.
That makes it even more of a shame, because otherwise it is a nice hotel with many positive points. But the ongoing disturbance ruined a significant part of our holiday and meant that we didn't get the peace and relaxation we came for. For that reason, we would not book this hotel again during the high season.
We checked in as a family of 5 to be given rooms on separate floors. It was as advertised as a family hotel which is far from the truth. We stayed for a week and during this time there were up to 10 groups of late teen single sex groups who were there to party. The noise at night made it hard to sleep as there was music and slamming of doors into the early hours of the morning. This was happening on all floors of the hotel. Beautiful hotel, most if the staff are lovely just not the family break we had saved for.
We have coming here for nearly 20years And I agree with DAYTRIP66696918373 In late June and July the noise from 18years has got a lot worse over the last few years and the staff have tried to help but they just laugh and carry on drinking in the rooms etc I won’t be going in July anymore it’s not worth the aggravation from them . I feel sorry for the families with young children As usual the staff are great and I would give them 5 stars .
