Location: Asterias Village Resort is situated between Koutouloufari Village (300 meters from the center of Koutouloufari) and Piskopiano Village (150 meters from the center of Piskopiano). That location itself provides the whole unit with a great panoramic view of the whole Hersonissos Harbor (1,5 km away) & the Cretan Sea. The area combines the cosmopolitan heart of Hersonissos and the most beautiful local neighborhood. Three traditional villages: Koutouloufari, Piskopiano & Old Hersonissos make this area a very interesting tourism destination. Within the area are the most popular beaches, at a short distance. Furthermore, the area is easily reached by the National Highway via by-pass road. Finally, this is a unique localized combination of the sun, sea, mountains and many natural beauties. This area is a real gem of a holiday destination choice that boasts both quality and many attractions
Accommodation: Asterias Village Resort consists of 10 buildings (Houses), spread over a 12.000 sq. meter area. In total the unit consists of 32 studios and 57 apartments, from which 12 (Maisonettes) are designed in traditional Cretan architecture (with loft room)

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We have recently returned from a truly lovely holiday, we travelled with our 3 sons ages 18, 16 and 6, I usually book all inclusive with a water park, evening entertainment etc, the slides get used a few times and everyone gets fed up of the entertainment after a couple of nights...I was a bit worried as I knew it was a more relaxed type holiday with easy access to a couple of lovely very traditional villages, whilst half way through my 16 year old said it's the best holiday he has had which was really nice to hear. There a couple of things i would point out, firstly we booked 2 sea view rooms and when we arrived about 22.15 we were advised we had been upgraded to a villa with a private pool which we initially thought was amazing we chucked our cases in the room and then went for food as we had booked half board and we had until 11 PM to eat (which I think is a great time daily to be able to eat if you like eating later) when we got back to the room there was 2 double beds and a single, 1 double bed in a bedroom the other double and single in the living room, which obviously with 2 teenage sons was not suitable (not a chance they are sharing a bed).....we spoke with reception and unfortunately the first night was a bit uncomfortable as we could not change rooms until the following morning...that being said we were then offered a sea view room which we had paid for and then an upgrade to a superior room both rooms were beautiful and for reference were number 32 (sea view) and 41 (superior also with a sea view.....the villa was nowhere near as nice even with the private pool (our opinion obviously) .....All of the staff were absolutely lovely and really kind and helpful we felt very looked after.....Turning to the half board option, the breakfast was standard buffet style with everything you need and all nice......the evening meal was exceptional all cooked really nice and very generous portions, the restaurant staff became like friends but also not in your face....I would say that whilst there is plenty of choice it is a set menu that does not change so if you only like a few things it could get repetitive but we were very happy with it....This was such a relaxing holiday but if you wanted more action say for example in the centre of Hersonissos it was close by, the only thing missing for me was the beach, you could get the free bus shuttle to a beach but I read that it was pebble and I like a nice sandy beach and it was $20 euros each way so we only went a couple of times, you could get the bus but as there were 5 of us it would have been the same cost or there abouts......The villages at night are truly beautiful and so much choice for eating out. I would not hesitate to book if you like a relaxing type holiday with no bars that have pumping music etc, if that is what you want then this will not be for you xxxx
We had a wonderful holiday in Koutaloufari staying at the Asterias Village Resort, the rooms were basic, even though we had a superior room we had some issues with the shower. Would definitely recommend Michael for a massage at the resort such a relaxing experience. Also spoiled for choice with all the restaurants in the 3 villages.
I have just had the most relaxing hours massage with Michael. As a sufferer of Fibromyalgia, arthritis as well as some very tight muscles I must say I am pleasantly surprised. A gentle but firm touch in all the niggly areas. The head and neck massage was bliss. I can't recommend this enough. Such a lovely gentleman too. Treat yourself it's more than worth the price of 70 euro.
My wife and I are still here at Asterias Village Resort and having a lovely time. I have to say though the standout so far amongst the staff is the wonderful Micheal and his massages. My wife and I had one today and you will feel amazing after them. He is a absolute star. I would highly recommend his massages.
The hotel is in a good location, with plenty of local tavernas and shops within easy reach. We also cannot fault the hardworking cleaning and bar staff, who were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
However, based on our experience of other 4-star hotels we have stayed in across the Greek islands, we would not consider this hotel to be 4-star standard. The rooms and bathrooms are in need of significant modernisation. Our bathroom had a shower over the bath, and the water took an extremely long time to drain away. Several tiles were chipped, there was visible dirt around the fittings, and some of the woodwork had swollen due to damp. By comparison, the other 4-star hotels we have stayed in have been immaculate.
Breakfast was okay, but the choices were repetitive, with essentially the same selection available each day. We were also concerned by the condition of the buffet station. The sliding doors were missing handles and had jagged edges where guests had to slide them open to access the food. This did not feel particularly hygienic. The table tops in the breakfast area were also worn and sticky/tacky.
The pool area itself was pleasant. However, getting a sun lounger could be challenging, as guests were putting towels down to reserve them as early as 5am. By the time we arrived around breakfast time, it was often difficult to find an available lounger.
Overall, taking into account our experiences of other hotels on the Greek islands, we would rate this hotel around 2.5 stars rather than 4 stars. While the location and staff were positives, the condition of the rooms and bathrooms, the standard of the breakfast area and the sun-lounger situation significantly affected our stay.
Unfortunately, based on our experience, we would not return to this hotel.
