The resort itself  in particular the course is good, the hotel rooms not so good - based on other equivalent star rating hotels we have stayed in would afford Pestana Villa Sol maybe 3*. The rooms are very tired/dated. During our stay the weather became very warm but the air con in our room was nit working -  this was reported but never fixed. The bath had been very badly repaired in several places with fibreglass patching, the shower constantly dripped/ran and there was significant mould growth around the shower screen.  Towels had seen better days  no longer white but grey, some freyed at edges. Whilst the food was adequate in quantity other than freshly made omelette all other cooked food was luke warm. On the plus side the bed was extremely comfortable and the staff friendly.

A lovely short break and a good base for a visit to our friends. My partner played golf on our check out day and I had to leave the room at the allotted time, but spent the day keeping occupied using the gym and spa. Unfortunately some of the gym equipment was a little dated with non functioning buttons and the main gym suite is unavailable unless with a PT. The kind gentleman there allowed me to use it for 20 minutes whilst he finished his own workout though. It would be further improved if there were shower facilities for people like me who had to check out.
I used the spa and had an absolutely amazing facial and hand/arm massage that included head and neck massage too and Rute Teixeira was absolutely wonderful and very skilled and attentive in her work. 
There was some filming by the outdoor pool which we received a heads up about. This did restrict me heading to the indoor pool for my pre dinner shower, but the reception team organised a lift on a buggy around the back way. 
The facilities there are ok, if a little dated which could be a problem for busier times, but as luck would have it, I had it to myself and had a nice jacuzzi.
Really helpful staff throughout, although a little dated and in need of a bit of modernisation, it suited our needs sufficiently.

This was our third stay in 3 years and we've already booked for next year! Have to say some things have even improved since our stay last year. 
Firstly we arrived after 11pm (there is no food service after 11pm) due to a late flight, but in line with our pre-arrival request, they had managed to plate 4 meals for us so that  we could all eat before going to our room - amazing service!
We had perfect, spacious rooms overlooking the turtle pools at the front end of the hotel...housekeeping was friendly, prompt and thorough each day. If food if what you love then this hotel is for you - especially evening buffet with different themes each night and an array of different dishes, offering variety with 5-star ingredients and flavours, and not bulked out with cheap filers like many hotels. Awesome breakfast buffet too. The golf driving range has also improved this year....that was one of the most expensive things for us in previous years but now you do at least get 48 balls for your 7 euros, which for us is comparable to what we would pay at a hotel locally in England. Course played well this year and we had three rounds which we thoroughly enjoyed.
In the middle of our stay the "electricity blackout" happened, but the hotel didn't miss a beat, coming up with a self-constructed BBQ to cook dinner meat options - the rest of dinner was still perfect. The team did an awesome job - couldn't have asked for more from the catering team to the guest relations team - Nicole came in on her day off to ensure guests were kept informed and our experience honestly couldn't have been better in the circumstances.
The only thing which is slightly disappointing is that now (hadnt been the case in any other year we've stayed here) the hotel is also used by groups of rowdy, disrespectful, young men (mostly if not all, "Brits broad") who seemed intent on being loud and obnoxious, starting at breakfast time where they helped themselves to handfuls of food on their way out of the breakfast buffet, talking with their phones on speaker, and then congregating from early evening in the Prime Bar watching football on TV, without shirts on, vaping and generally being noisy and disruptive - made me feel a little unsafe at times because things can kick off so fast in that situation. I hope this is managed closely because it would be a shame if this little gem is ruined for regular guests because of the behaviour of groups of rowdy drunks.
Aside from this - brilliant stay!

Outstanding Service from the whole team at Pestana Vila Sol

Just returned for yet another short break at Vila Sol. Got a lovely welcome from staff on arrival and our luggage was taken whilst we started the check in progress.
The beds were very comfortabe, we had amazing views over the driving range.
The buffet breakfasts offered an enormous choice of quality.
Luckily the weather was amazing too.
Without a doubt we will return and recommend to out friends.

We stayed for 3 nights and 3 rounds of golf, the course is well cared for and has some nice holes to it. Clubhouse bar was a very enjoyable place to sit.
The hotel was very comfortable with friendly staff. The hotel had two bars, a snooker table, a gym, and an outside pool with plenty of sun loungers. The pool bar was fortunately during our visit (middle pf April).
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and the variety available was immense, and the quality did not disappoint. I slept well in my quality bed and the view from my room was stunning. The only disappointment was not staying there longer. Our group look forward to returning later this year.
