Pool

First up the positives:

- The majority of the staff we encountered were lovely and really tried to make the trip a positive experience,
- Both the Asiana and Italian were fairly good al la carte restaurants and well worth a visit, the service provided by Maria at the Asiana was particularly excellent.
- Overall the cleaners did a good job keeping everywhere reasonably clean.

On to the negatives:

- Overall there are a number of areas of the hotel that are tired and really in need of revamping, for example the secondary pool is surrounded by concrete and not tile which follows on to the ‘entertainment’ or stage area’, in all honesty it looks like this whole area has been thrown together on what was an old concrete car park, not very inviting and a stark contrast to the main pool area,
- We started off in superior guest room side sea view - there was genuinely nothing superior about this room. the air conditioning was in reality nothing more than a loud fan and both the bathroom and bedroom had cracked tiles, mouldy grout around the sink and a shower screen nowhere near big enough to prevent a flood on the bathroom floor every time you showered. Following our completion of a feedback survey on day 2 we were moved to one of the family bungalows, this was better with operational AC, a much better bathroom and fewer issues although there were still cracked tiles and some bathroom issues. In general I’d say that the rooms started out being fitted in a manner that looked great on Instagram but they simply aren’t practical for a hotel.
- The main buffet restaurant just isn’t fit for purpose, the food isn’t hot enough which for me is what I want at a buffet, and there is a lack of choice. On several occasions I noticed pizza being served that was nothing more than charcoal with some cheese on top and the selection was very similar most days. 
- In my opinion the Tavernaki restaurant is not great either in terms of food or service.

Overall I’d say Grecotel the brand needs to undertake some work at this hotel to bring it up to the standard the staff deserve, focus less on the ‘instagram look’ and more on the offering. Having had such a wonderful stay at the Grecotel White Palace in Crete a few years ago we were excited to visit another one in the brand, not sure we will be trying another in the future.

Not the best

We have just come back from an amazing 9 night stay at the Dama Dama. We arrived quite late on our first night,we had already checked in via their app so after a quick tour of the lobby area and instructions of where to go for breakfast the next morning we were shown to our room and advised that there were late night snacks available in the lobby area if we wanted something to eat.
We had booked a premium family room with a side sea view,the room was of a good size and ideal for our party of 3 adults as it had a double bed and 2 single sofa beds which were separated by a sliding door.The bathroom had a walk in shower,2 washbasins and the toilet and could be accessed via 2 doors,one being the door from the double bedroom and one via the entrance hallway.There was plenty of storage space,a safe and a minibar restocked every day with water and soft drinks.
The hotel and grounds are very well maintained,we were always able to find a sunbed at the beach or a deckchair in the gardens.Pool/beach towels are available,the pool was cold but once you’re in you soon get used to it.The indoor pool,sauna and gym were a nice way to get out of the sun for a little while.
Food and drink options were plentiful and varied.Would definitely recommend booking the a La carte restaurants in particular the Italian.The beach bar is nice for lunch and also serves ice cream and crepes during the day.
The hotel is located next to the Epsilon shopping centre and there is a bus stop outside to go to Rhodes centre or Faliraki.
Every member of staff we encountered was friendly,helpful and polite.A special mention has to go to Irina who is part of the activities team,who made the darts ‘competition’ great fun every day and always found time to make sure we knew what activities and entertainment were on each day and chat to us of an evening,she is a credit to the hotel.

Amazing hotel,relaxing holiday.

A very pleasant stay for a week. 
Initially, I was a little unsure of our room as the travel agent hadn’t shown us all the rooms, so I would recommend looking into this. I maybe should have spoken up on arrival. However, the hotel surroundings and restaurants are all lovely.
After my daughter having an accident in the hotel, the staff were very caring and attentive. We would like to thank Ms Christina for looking after her and spoiling her. Also, Alexa in the lobby bar was fantastic and made sure everything ran smoothly.
Overall, we had a nice family holiday.

Super for families

Lovely hotel! Pool was amazing. Always something at the buffet to eat. Good variety of drinks from iced coffee to cocktails. Thoradoris on the pool bar was friendly. Room was spacious and clean and have soft drinks replenished daily. However it was the entertainment staff was the main reason the hotel got a 5/5. Diego, Dimitri and Michele were the highlight of the holiday. Dimitris Aqua Zumba was a good, with his sassiness and positive vibes. But Diego made the trip. From Aqua Gym in the morning to Beach Volleyball on the afternoon. He always had so much energy and always had a cheeky smile on his face. Constantly made sure we were okay and included us in activities, had a lot of banter which was great. Honestly Diego was a credit to the entertainment team and would definitely go back🥰

Entertainment team made the holiday! Good vibes🥰

We searched and searched for an all inclusive for a 5-night stay - and looked into loads of reviews so I'm hoping this helps someone in the same boat!

Overall, it was an average hotel experience, nothing that really rang true to the luxury its name suggests. 

My biggest bit of advice, if you choose this hotel, whatever you do, upgrade your room!!! We thought about it but given it was 5 nights and we don't spend much time in there usually, we didn't think be an issue, so we went with the 'FAMILY GUESTROOM INLAND VIEW' and now having been, it seems like this is the older part of the hotel (above the entrance) before further development in buildings separate / around the pool. These rooms have a common theme in the reviews as being older and the aircon - awful!! you genuinely wouldn't know other than the hum as it's built into the walls, rather than the classic external machine you point a remote at. The beds are very hard as are the pillows and there's also a weird metal bar on the headrest..!? 

The food at the a la carte restaurants was interesting... each one had different rules. 
 
The Asian: 
- We came here on our 2nd night and by the last night walked past at 7pm and noticed they were giving prawn crackers! So book earlier if you want the full treatment..! 
- They do themed drinks here, they're really fun, I highly recommend the spirtz if you like ginger beer/ale. 
- I recommend the katsu curry and the chocolate dessert. Whatever you do - don't order the Pad Thai... it's not a Pad Thai in the slightest, it just tastes like curry and uses Singapore noodles that congealed together with the sauce. The mango sorbet is also really disappointing - you barely get any sorbet and instead get dollops of other random unknown things.  

The Greek:
- We came here on our third night. 
- This restaurant is at the beach bar (we had troubles asking where to find it as it's not sign posted). A lovely setting for dinner in theory, but the drinks were just as slow in the evening as they are in the day. 
- The way it works here is you get all of the starters (a lot of food!!), 1 main and 1 dessert. 
- They didn't bring our drinks over for a good 40 minutes and seemed to forget us all together after the main was served. They also didn't ask our preferences for the starters so there was a lot of wasted food  - definitely worth flagging anything you don't like when they put down the water otherwise you get a full table of food you feel bad for leaving. If you eat meat, I recommend the beef kebab, but for non-meat eaters the veggie mousakka is terrible.

The Italian: 
- This was definitely our favourite - and thank goodness as we came on my birthday!! Here you can order as many things as you like, for starters and mains! 
- The starters were exceptional - from the focaccia (SO GOOD) to the arancini and salads - just get as many as you can! My partner had fun playing with his shrimp on the hot stone for his main but it was pretty bland otherwise. I had the chicken tagliatelle with 2 very small pieces of broccoli, which was good but i'd had nicer pasta sauces at the beach bar buffet for lunches. We wished they did variations of the great pizza from downstairs or garlic bread. They'd be great additions. 
- The blush prosecco here is delicious and the drinks server Val (can't remember the rest of his name) was incredible. His energy and service made our meal 10x better. 

The buffet: 
Pretty good array, we loved the pizza in the main buffet (proper pizza oven) - meat eaters definitely check out the beach buffet as that seemed to be way better but didn't have as many veggie options. I loved the pancakes at breakfast - cooked freshly in front of you, really nice. 

The ice cream/crepes are good, nothing to shout home about but hit the spot! Didnt see any kind of smoothie/juice place. 

Other positives: 

- Definitely brave the cold pool for the water fit, it's great fun - and I wish the water zumba was longer than 2 songs - the guy is so fun! 

- It's really easy to book the restaurants on the app - make sure you do the fast check in days before, and that way you can book your restaurants before you go and should have availability. I booked ours 4 days in advance and it was getting booked up at that point. 

- The landscaping is beautiful, and the Grecotel website designer definitely does a good job of showing it off - they need a payrise!

Areas that need improvement: 

- The aircon in the family bedroom is shockingly bad!! You can barely feel the difference, it led to a lot of mosquito bites on our last night as it was unbearably hot without the balcony doors open all night. Can't stress enough, upgrade your room when you book if you're keen on everything else this hotel has to offer!

- The app for anything, other than booking the restaurants, was really poor. I had a request in to top up the mini bar in the afternoon and it didn't get accepted, so we asked at reception the next day. On that note, for a full luxury experience, the mini bar should be topped up as standard along with the nespresso pods / milk / water. 

- The bar service is just as slow as people say. Tip: avoid the beach bar and go to the lobby bar if you are by the pool - it was so much faster in the day. Also the coffee is so bad at the beach bar, even though they have all the machines, they use instant. They also don't do frozen drinks either (probably not a bad thing when they're slow), but this would be SUCH a great addition. 

- We managed to get a lounger for 2 of us each day but they were the last beds each time. Bearing in mind this was early May, I think there'll be a big problem with 'reserving beds' come peak season. The beach isn't particularly desirable, no one was in the sea when we went so I think more people are around the main pool. 

- Late night snack area - a really random selection, it seems no one actually has the sandwiches, they just go for the pizza. The ice cream doesn't have a scoop that's provided so you end up with a pitiful bent spoon. 

- The cold pool!! Is freezing even though advertised as heated through May. This was actually one of the pro's for us so it was disappointing it wasn't. 

- The gym looks great but was basic in practice. The Spa is just a small indoor pool - they don't do treatments here. They sent us to a separate hotel for massages (not really worth the cost, it's a very old basic spa, you also have to pay for the transfer there). 

Also worth a mention, if you don't like kids, don't go for this hotel - there are a lot of small children and parents who don't want to be at the kid's pool, which is in a separate area. It wasn't too much of an issue for me, but my partner did get fed up of the smell of poolside nappy changes..!

RECOMMENDATIONS ELSEWHERE: 

I highly recommend going out to 'Eteon Greek Culture Taverna' about a 10 euro taxi into Faliarki each way and really good traditional Greek food (although terribly slow service) - get the baklava! Also to the Old Town, for an explore - a lunch place 'MELI restaurant' - such lovely staff and again, amazing Greek food.  

Overall it was ok - looked great on the gram but the reality is disappointing. There are a lot of things they need to improve on to live up to being 'luxury' by name and nature.

Lots of room for improvement - and UPGRADE your room!!!
