We visited Alexander the Great in Paphos as a family with two children aged 8 and 5.

Overall we had an absolutely fabulous holiday and would really reccomend the hotel.

It is in the most beautiful location, overlooking the sea, and only five/ten minutes walk from tons of lovely restaurants in Paphos harbour. 

We could see and hear the beach from our balcony - stunning!

There are also steps directly from the hotel that lead down to a quiet area of the beach (sandy with a few pebbles!) which is perfect for little ones to paddle in or for swimming if the water is calm. There is a small additional charge to hire the loungers on the beach.

We were a bit confused about the hotel pools when we booked - I think they described having four pool areas, but it feels more more like three pools and an additional small splash area for babies/toddlers. 

There is an adults only area that looks gorgeous but due to the kids we didnt use. Then, there is the large, main rectangular infinity pool with a whirlpool type area at one end. It's important to note (as we didnt realise), that this main pool is deep for little ones so you would definitely need floating aids if children can't swim. It gets slightly more shallow at the pool bar area (though the pool bar wasn't open when we went) and the smaller rectangular pool would be okay for 5/6 year olds to stand in. There's also an indoor pool.

All of the pools and the sun lounger areas were always immaculately clean and the pool bar staff are really friendly and efficient. You can get lunch & drinks delivered to the loungers until about 4.30pm if you aren't eating in the buffet area (additional charge).

You need to book your loungers at the start of your stay at the pool kiosk, so you are allocated particular loungers and can change if others become available. This is handy if you don't want the morning rush but also means you are in the same place each day.

The rooms and inside the main hotel were also immaculately clean. Domestic staff who cleaned the rooms were very friendly and considerate.

We had a superior plus room with one double bed and a sofa bed with a balcony. The main bed was incredibly comfortable, but unfortunately the sofa bed for the kids was a bit squeaky and small and had a very thin mattress. Our kids are an age where they luckily didn't care, but this would probably be an issue for tweens and teens who are taller and possibly a bit more fussy about sleep?! This was probably the only negative of our stay.

We dined all inclusive. The breakfast was plentiful, lunch was also lovely with lots of options of meats/salads/fruits and dinner for the most part was lovely, but there was a themed Carvery night on Sunday which felt a bit out of place for Cyprus!!

My youngest is also a fussy eater and we  found the kids options quite limited. He ate nuggets/chips/melon and dessert for the whole week (there is pizza available most days too), so for our family particularly, we would have appreciated more child friendly options - just something to bear in mind if you also have a picky eater with you.

In the mornings, lunchtimes and some evenings you can dine in an outdoor area nearby to the pool - a really lovely spot and a wonderful atmosphere.

Evening entertainment kicks off at around 9.30pm with a quiz and then performers. We had the Kanika team performing most evenings with a magician one night. Our kids enjoyed it but it is a very late night for them! There is also a kids disco in the kids club area but we didnt try this as often ate dinner late.

Notes for young families - the pool isn't made with little ones in mind so definitely bring floating aids.

The hotel isnt closed off from the main walkway into Paphos harbour, so if you have a toddler who likes to wander around this could be a bit tricky to manage! - they'd definitely need carrying/a buggy or very vigilant hand holding if you were walking into the town as there are no fences/barriers that block the path from the drop down to the sea.

However, in summary - absolutely reccomend the hotel. Stunning area, immaculately clean, nice food, incredible views and Paphos harbour area itself is gorgeous and feels very safe and friendly. The couple of times we ate out in the harbour it was very idyllic and we had a wonderful week.

Beautiful location, friendly atmosphere, immaculately clean (could possibly be a bit more kid friendly)

I read a lot of reviews and I agree with a lot of them. The cleanliness, food and service is absolutely outstanding, however, I did find some parts disappointing. We were a family of 3 with a two year old. When we arrived at 10pm there was no cot for our toddler but there was a camp bed. She’s only ever slept in a cot and wouldn’t have been safe on the bed so we rang for a cot, this was offered for the morning but I said that wouldn’t work, someone went ‘looking for a cot’ but none could be located at that time  so my husband slept on the camp bed and my toddler had to sleep with me. We were given a cot the next day. My main complaint is the noise, as a family with a toddler, our room was pretty much attached to the ‘wedding party room’. We could have joined the party in our room it was that loud, luckily the air con was noisy enough to drown some of it out but had we not been settled in the room before a wedding happened, we would have asked to move. There were three weddings in the week we stayed meaning it was a bit hard some nights to sleep. The Friday night wedding was unbelievably loud, as we were leaving the following day, we just ‘coped’ but we shouldn’t have had to with the cost of staying in the hotel. A bit of poor planning to put a family with a young child so close and not prepare anyone that this would be a potential problem on an evening. Despite this, we would absolutely return, however I would be requesting a room, far away from the wedding party room.

Excellent but some changes needed.

We stayed for 4 days in May 2025. It is about 15-20 min from Paphos airport. We hired a car. Plenty of free car parking at the hotel.
We had a great time with no complaints at all.
We had room 201 which has great views. The room had everything we needed. 
Breakfast was first class with a huge choice and sitting outside was a bonus. 
There is a great bar.
No complaints at all from us and intend to return.
It is clear that a lot of the clientele are return customers.

Excellent sea front hotel

Just returned from a weeks stay as a party of 6. We stayed here 2 years prior and decided to return as we enjoyed it so much.  One of our main pulls is service, hygiene and food! 

Food is to a high standard for half board - fresh, plentiful and glass of wine included. Fresh made to order omelettes at breakfast! Also serve oat milk and almond milk as a dairy alternative which I loved! 

Welcome cocktail reception - fabulous cocktail and a warm greeting from management. 
Allocated sun beds to avoid the early rush complete with umbrellas per every two sun loungers! 

Hygiene - every morning the housekeeping team would be cleaning windows, disinfecting the gym and the floors and the toilets were always immaculate! I am a little OCD with hygiene and I felt this hotel really excels on this front. 
Service - nothing was ever too much trouble, we attended the Greek night one evening, the food catered more to the adults of our party versus our two small girls but again, no trouble for us to pop across to the buffet to get some pasta. One evening my daughter didn’t like anything at the buffet (slightly fussy!), and again, the chef cooked pasta from scratch for her! 

This hotel, although some state the rooms feel dated, they are clean with fresh towels each day and fresh pool towels daily, you honestly can’t complain. 

We did have a small miscommunication regarding wine tasting (being told the wrong time by guest relations) and a bottle of bubbly was sent to our room - lovely surprise and this level of customer service has won my loyalty for a return trip. 
All staff are friendly, helpful and we would definitely return! Lovely walks to the harbour and the beach and pool are great! 

My only con is the entertainment, although they have a great interactive quiz, the entertainment itself was weaker than the 2023 year. We would happily skip but we have two girls who were obsessed with watching it!

We stayed at the Alexander the Great, Beach Hotel for two weeks in the Easter holidays in 2025.  We had actually stayed the previous Easter and loved the hotel so much that we returned this year.  We had never done this before with a hotel abroad.  The staff are amazing, so helpful and friendly.  The food is incredible, there is so much variety in the Roxanne restaurant and they have themed nights where there is something for everyone. There are also three other restaurants serving incredible Italian food, Greek food and Pan Asian food, the food looks stunning and tastes incredible.  We loved the fact that we could choose our sunbeds and not have to worry about them for two weeks, we could sunbathe first thing, go out and then come back and they would still be there and not occupied by anyone else.  Our room had superb views of the incredible sunsets.  Overall, we had a fabulous time and would definitely return again.  As it was Easter, we were given a very special Easter basket with traditional Easter bread and two chocolate eggs, a very kind and thoughtful touch.   Thank you to everybody for making our stay even more wonderful than last year.
